So............

I'm not a fan of Putin, but he clearly understands the current situation. It's equally clear that the US administration has no such understanding. -
Ah, the small comforts!

It's a 'peace' I could do without. It's right up there with 'man-love'. I'm going to shower now.

Truth About The NRA For Uptown Redneck

But, I thought gun violence was a uniquely American problem. Because we have so many guns and all. My heart goes out to all of the victims and their families. Je suis charlie! -

One hundred dead is the latest count. Very sad. I hope we all get our priorities straightened out soon. -
Got to love NY Democrat leaders

I can't find the source for this. I'll paraphrase... A Colonel looks up at the sky over Afghanistan with his attack helicopters flying all around and says, "How can these people hope to win when they throw spears at helicopters?" The local tribal leader says, "How can you hope to win against an enemy willing to throw spears at your helicopters?" -
Truth About The NRA For Uptown Redneck

The extreme left has taken the position that the very existence of the United States of America, as we know it, is wrong. They're working to change the US to fit a specific 'vision', whatever that may be. I vehemently oppose that position and anything done to further it. We may not get everything exactly right, but we're still the 'free-est' nation on this planet. I will fight for those freedoms. Why do you suppose our borders are flooded with people trying to get in, when so many borders of other nations are flooded with people trying to get out? We must be doing something right, at a basic level. -
I wish you all the best moving forward. In the mean time, stock the freezer and enjoy the extra hunting time.

I'm not a sports fan at all, but after living for 20 years in Buffalo it kinda gets into your blood. Even though I left there 15 years ago, it's hard for me to not root for the only NFL team that still plays in NY. Go Sabers and go Bills.

If it makes you feel more confident in the woods, then go for it. Positive mental attitude counts for a lot. That said, if the wind is wrong for you a deer will know what you had for breakfast before you even get out of your truck.

My guns were lost when my house flooded this past spring. Alas. I'll wait for the forthcoming argument that an armed citizenry can never stand up to government power... -
Truth About The NRA For Uptown Redneck
philoshop replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Many consider the NRA to be 'extreme' in both their goals and their tactics. This is invariably a result of misunderstanding their actual goals: The US was founded as a free country, and should remain that way. Everyone in this country is still free to disagree with the NRA, because the NRA fights vehemently to allow you to continue to disagree with them. It's not just about guns. -
I had a friend with acreage in Cattaraugus county who used a chainsaw as a deer call. The property was selectively logged almost every year and the sound of a chainsaw would bring the deer in, looking for fresh browse. It was comical to see.

Sabres won as well! A good day for Bflo fans.

She is correct. This is how it starts.

I would disagree with her use of the term "crony capitalism". It is, in fact, crony socialism. That said, she has a clear understanding of what's going on. -
A gun dealer in the US is required to have a Federal Firearms License (FFL). They are also required to perform background checks prior to transfer of a firearm. There is NO "gun show loophole" with respect to FFL holders. The vast majority of private sales happen between friends and/or family. A background check in this case is nothing more than a prohibitive tax. Magazine limits? Who are you to decide what I might "need"?

The fragile children of the future
philoshop replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The end result is a society fully subservient to any and all 'authority'. Governing bodies approve of this mindset. -
Any compromise during negotiation requires a mutually agreed upon basis from which the two negotiating parties can then concede certain aspects. The NRA understands this. There can be no compromise with those who would argue that guns should be removed from the hands of law-abiding citizens in the US, and unfortunately many of the lawmakers currently pushing for further restrictions would also like to see a complete removal of the second amendment from the Constitution. There can be no compromise with people holding this view because there is no basis for negotiation. The NRA clearly understands this. Mentally ill and criminally insane people live among us. The laws which should prevent them from having access to guns are already in place, and have proved ineffectual. Further legislation regarding gun ownership won't change these facts, and it won't make any of us any safer. The NRA understands this. Rewriting or removing the second amendment will be the precursor to rewriting or removing the entire Constitution of the United States, and will pave the way for any sort of global dictatorship that has the US in it's sights. The NRA understands this. Many consider the NRA to be radical in their views, and obstructionist in their actions: Gun owners and gun haters alike. Take a very close look at what they're actually supporting, and what they're actually obstructing. I support the NRA.

You won't be able to get one with a threaded muzzle or a brake in NYS. They're included as condemned options under SAFE. A nice picatinney rail on top will open up a lot of options for sights and accessories though. 5.56 will give up some accuracy over the .223, but you'll be able to use military surplus ammo if it ever becomes readily available again. I wouldn't count on that. The 7.62 (.308) version is the 'Mini Thirty'. Excellent brush gun for deer in dense cover. It depends on what you want to use it for. My AR and AK guns are safely locked in my friend's gun vault in Kentucky. My Mini-14 spends a lot of time under the seat of my truck. If I buy another gun before I move it'll probably be a Mini Thirty so that I have something under the seat of my truck during deer season.
