  1. Can they be sharpened for arrow heads? Just wondering.
  2. The New World Order: one enormous communist government ruling the planet. That's the goal. Mr. Obama is in Paris pushing hard for it as we type, under the guise of 'climate change' talks. He would like to be the king, and George Soros would like to see him seated in that position. Some of the politicians may want to give away our sovereignty, but I'm hopeful that the citizens of this country will wake up and fight back. It's not too late. It's time for new leadership in the US.
  3. I've been granted permission to hunt in some pretty odd places over the years. I've taken deer from cemeteries, landfills, public parks, and private airfields. Things have definitely changed.
  4. I devoured a sizable chunk of goat cheese with some homemade crackers and spicey horseradish mustard last night, courtesy of some Amish folks just down the road. I helped them out with some minor construction issues in the exchange. I couldn't stop slicing and eating! Went for a bran muffin this morning. ;-]
  5. And "the government" whether village, town, county, state, or federal buys or seizes more land from citizens every day. Then there are the foreign buyers. And the list goes on. Do the FEMA camps have working toilets, or 'hunting allowed' areas? Just wondering.
  6. Glad you've joined us Tamara! Best of luck to you.
  7. Entitlement mentality? Loss of basic ethics and morality?
  8. Feral cats mark their territory just like fox and coyotes. This may in fact attract coyotes looking for a kitty-lunch, and that might keep deer away. Other than that, cats and deer tend to get along.
  9. Glad that you were able to find the deer. Perseverance pays off.
  10. Good funny answers! Headed to a stand, I'm generally focused on just getting there. Otherwise I look over everything within sight, including where I'll put my next step, before making even the slightest movement. I stillhunt as if the deer can shoot back.
  11. Lightfield Hybred in the rifled guns, basic Federal punkinballs in the smoothbores. I'm just glad I don't have to put up with that kind of recoil any more. I thought it was fun 30 years ago, but not so much any more.
  12. One comment in that link made an important point: Remington spent a small fortune fleeing from NYS. That had to hurt, and it wasn't entirely their fault. Other than that, it's like any other corporate entity that makes stupid long-term business decisions in order to pander to short-term stockholders. The product has suffered, and the name has gone with it. I'll keep my older Remmy's, but I don't intend to buy any new ones.
  13. I've had one for about 15 years, and it's great for hunting steep hillsides where other kinds of seats are impractical. I don't see any reason it couldn't be hung low enough to use your knees while shooting, but I tend to keep it up high enough so that I can occasionally lift my feet and wiggle my toes to stay warm. If it's mounted off to the side of the tree from where you expect to see game it's even possible to use the seat itself as a gun rest for longer ranges if you have the time to slide off and get set up.
  14. No tv here, so my 'watching' is confined to internet updates. I'm not feelin' the love.
  15. There are several clips like that from around the world. Sometimes there is outrage, oftentimes it's uncontrolled laughter. (Replaced my computer a couple of weeks ago and can't find the clips. I'll keep looking.)
  16. Looks like a salad tong/meat tenderizer mashup! Glad it's workin' for ya Eddie.
  17. Glad to have you with us Galliform!
  18. I'm not much of a fan when it comes to spectator sports, but I did live in Buffalo for twenty years. It kind of gets into your blood. Go Bills.
  19. I have a friend that cuts deer like that. He did it as a kid and took over the family business about 40 years ago. By his estimation he's carved up more than 30,000 deer. I don't doubt that figure at all. He probably knows more about deer anatomy than most biologists. He certainly knows where to put the knife. His crew can cut, slice, grind, and package faster than I can skin them for him. And I'm pretty darn good at skinning. Then again, I can install a door faster than he can find his hammer, so we're all good. ;-]
  20. The sex is 'male'. The tag is 'antlerless'. No confusion there. You might take the head to DEC or a biologist to get more info on why he lost his antlers. At least make a phone call. I'd be curious.
  21. Failure of intelligence is, "We don't know." This is a failure to care. Willful negligence is a punishable offense in the US.
  22. It's a different hunting technique, and it can be very effective. I don't understand the issue. I was happy to be rousted out of bed and tagged as a driver for the family in the 1960's. A day off from school, I helped to fill the freezer, and I'd often drive the truck or tractor to collect both the deer and the men who killed them. Pretty heady stuff for a 10 year old kid. The family is all dead now, the property is gone, and the tradition is over. The memories I still hold dear.
  23. Here's a virtual slap on the back for ya!!!! Nicely done!
  24. Congrats to you both! And, nice job with the photo!
  25. The sitting US President is the head of the US State Department. Apparently my ignorance has limits.
