That gave me a chuckle! Thanks for posting.

Sometimes there's a bit of suffering involved if you really want to be around the bigger deer. I've been known to hunt swamps with a small/tiny canoe. Half paddle and half drag for extended distances. It's not always fun, but it makes for great memories and great stories. Almost anything that will get you where others fear to tread is a good thing. Best of luck to you, and keep us posted.

Two round trips. One walking, two biking, and one dragging. I like the plan!! Good luck! I can't imagine it would be too hard to rig up one of those two-wheeled 'game haulers' to tow behind the bike either.

A snort is an alarm signal, they're headed for cover. A wheeze is a sort of frustrated grunt, looking for a partner. A grunt is an all-out 'you're in my sights and in my nose' message to everything else in the woods that he's ready and he has a target partner.

#1. It's a NY Times Op-Ed piece. The NYT is arguably one of the most anti-gun newspapers in the world. The spin is dizzying. The person voicing the opinion probably interviewed dozens of people/families before he latched onto this particular group in order to make his point. #2. The kid clearly doesn't want to hunt or be a part of the outdoors lifestyle. He misses his cocoon of safety: sleep 'til noon, text the girlfriend, burgers with friends, quality tv time, read the NYT, etc. #3. I can't imagine a worse 'mentor' in my wildest dreams.

I haven't read a hunting-related book in several years Born. They're all packed in a box in storage somewhere. Can't remember any titles or authors off the top of my head either. I'll keep trying to jog my memory for you.

Welcome to the site, and best of luck to you.

Sorry to hear about that kind of crap, but glad that you caught it early. Be well.

Caldwell Rock BR and Protektor rear bag
philoshop posted a topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
Both items were purchased new last summer and have seen very little use. $140 for both. A nice solid setup for sighting in and other bench shooting. Shipping will be very expensive due to the weight, so I'd rather meet somewhere if possible. -
Welcome to the site, and good luck to you!

That's a lot of shootin'! Sounds like fun.

I was asked "What do I think..." I gave an answer regarding the photograph. Quite honestly, it looks like a mount/prop positioned in a weed field, shot by someone who knows a little about how to manipulate a photo on their computer.

Trying to mouse-squeek a fox w/ a horned owl in a nearby tree can get pretty exciting as well. Be prepared.

mmmmmm, bacon!

We're all compelled to do what we think is the right thing at a particular moment. That needs to be tempered by the fact that others are not 'in that moment' and may have an entirely different sense of what is, or should be, 'right' given the circumstances. What your friend did was technically illegal. That aside, I wouldn't necessarily say it was the wrong thing to do in that situation.

Fired up the wood stove a couple of hours ago (my only heat source). Not looking forward to 9 months of burning like last year. Starts to get old after New Year's day. OTOH, the bugs will leave us alone and IT'S HUNTING SEASON! The wood stacks are full but the freezer's empty. Time once again to change that around. And on it goes.

Pretty cool gig, Red! You'll see your work on national tv.

Glad it worked out. Good luck and have fun!

I have a feeling it's only gonna get worse. The background checks are looming on the horizon. Make sure it's what your gun likes, then buy enough to make it worth the trouble and expense, I guess.

Welcome Patrick! I grew up in Newark and Sodus Point many years back myself. Good luck to you this year.

I've been using one from Sinclair for about 20 yrs now. LR on one end and SR on the other, both are depth adjustable. Not sure if they still offer it. The diameter is an exact fit with the cutting edges on the face of course, so I would think it would take out a mil crimp going in if you're careful. Thanks for the post Big John! Very nice intro piece.

'I think', it's not a trail cam pic. It's HDRI, (high dynamic range imaging), done with multiple exposures. It's a great photo, but unless your 'trail cam' is in the $10k+ range and doing bursts at 15 to 20 frames per second, I would suspect you borrowed the image. Then again, you haven't actually claimed it as your own. Thanks for sharing.

Primary Elections Tomorrow
philoshop replied to mike rossi's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Meanwhile the voting democrats are leaning more and more toward the 'progressive' end of the spectrum. Typical union involvement mostly, but frightening nonetheless. Seems that even the more conservative democrats aren't safe from the onslaught any more. http://www.newsmax.com/Politics/andrew-cuomo-primary-disappointment/2014/09/10/id/593858/
