Welcome to the site Poppy!

Could be a Hep-Cat. Any musical instruments in the area? Not a Bob, but maybe a Tom.

Three years ago I hit a buck at 8:30 AM on the second day of the season, mid-October. He turned away from me just as I released the arrow and it entered just forward of his rear leg. I started the search at about 1:00 with temps in the 70's and didn't find him until about 4:30 in the afternoon. He was bloated to the point that when I pulled the arrow out I got sprayed with some pretty unpleasant stuff. This was right behind my house, so I was able to hose him out and towel-dry the cavity about an hour after I found him. He was skinned and hanging in the processor's shed by 6:30 that night, and he was cut up the following morning with almost no loss of meat, and everything tasted fine. That's 8 hours in the sun, and another 2 hours before real cool-down began. I'm still not sure exactly how the shot happened like it did, but the arrow traveled through everything inside that deer including the liver. The fletching was halfway through the hide when I found him, but the broadhead ended up hanging inside the chest cavity where it sliced and diced one lung and half of the heart while he was running away. He made it 150 yards and left only a half dozen tiny specks of aspirated blood. I managed to find him because I knew roughly where he was headed, and I got lucky.

Sounds like quite an experience for everyone involved!
-
You are more than welcome to wait until the temperature is not too cold and not too hot, but 'just right'.
-
Glad to have you here!

When it's really cold out, I still use a pair of wool pants that my grandfather bought in the 1940's. Ugly as sin and heavy as a wheelbarrow full-o-bricks when wet, but they work.

Nice shots!

For the month of september 2014 both/either licenses are legal. Starting next year the licenses will be valid from sept 1st until the following sept 1st.

Happy B-day!

If you really need to get rid of some, that photo is making my mouth water!

I've had some of those guys pass by within arm's reach of me in the woods. I just give 'em a pass.

Changing your shooting form is not to be taken lightly. Especially in the middle of an important shot.

Welcome back!

First Day / Few Days for the Bow Season - What are you going to do?
philoshop replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
I'll be dropping the string as early as possible as well. Get one in the freezer before something else makes demands on my time. -
He's got a snout like a pronghorn in the one pic. He's vaping a banana in the other one. JMO.

Sounds about right, but ouch anyways! The service drop will probably include include a meter socket if you were told 'no fees after that'. Otherwise there would have been a 'connection' fee after you installed the socket. I'm still curious about the 'meter charge', though. It's not considered a 'fee', but it's the basic monthly cost for having their meter in the socket so that you can actually use their power. Check the bill for your house. It's everything that you pay for before actually using any electricity. My house is about $25/mo totaled up. About half of my electric bill from NYSEG every month just for the privilege of having their power at my disposal. You probably don't want to be stuck with much more than that every single month if you're only trying to stay warm for a few nights during the year. My point is that the service drop is not the same as having that power immediately available to you. Sorry if I'm coming across like a dick about it. Just trying to help.

WHOS EXCITED 12 DAYS LEFT TILL BOW SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
philoshop replied to HUNTINGS IN MY DNA's topic in Bow Hunting
Had to give y'all an earworm for the day! Yeah, it's about James Taylor, but you can make it about hunting too. Best of luck to everyone. -
I just erased everything I was going to post re: the ammo sales provision of the safe act, and basically pointing out what it does not address that could be used as loopholes. After proofreading the post I realized it was probably going to help the idiots in Albany at least as much as the folks here. This is an open website folks. Detailed information about what's wrong with the safe act needs to be held close to the vest, as they say. The people who wrote and passed the legislation generally have very little knowledge of the subject. Don't voluntarily educate them. Best Regards, Mark

Memories!!!

I'm verging on coronary arrest here, but maybe 35 years ago...? Welcome to the site Osprey. Is that your rig? More info please.
-
In the end, it's a lot more about the memories than the tally.
-
Just enough to be happy about hunting, I guess. Good luck to you this year. Don't miss!

The bigger on-line suppliers are staying ahead of the curve w/ regard to NYS, and for the most part they're not shipping ammo to non-FFL's at this time. None of them want to be caught with a backorder to fill after the mess that we're headed for comes to be. It's business. They don't need NYS to stay in business. They still have 44 or so.
