Sorry to hear about the ordeal, John. If you think you gave the recovery effort your best shot, that's all you can do. We've all been there. Learn from the experience (a lot) and move on.

Lightfield slugs are my choice....yours?!
philoshop replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I've recovered a handful of Lightfield slugs from deer that still had the bases/wads attached. Not sure if that's normal, but they sure do pack a punch when they end up being the size of a quarter! -
The deer will tend to be in and around the crop fields right now. The availability of corn and soybeans, and farmers cutting those crops, make them a natural magnet for any animal trying to put on fat for the winter. If you have a spot that you can hunt near those fields, all is good. If you don't have such a spot you're kind of waiting for random deer that might walk through a particular area. In another week or so those 'random' sightings will become more frequent as the rut heats up and they start to travel more during daylight hours. Lots of us deal with it every year. All I can say is be patient and don't burn out the spot you have. Pick the right conditions next week and stay on guard all day. Welcome to the site!

I think I like the judge in your area.

I started with Lee dippers and Lee Loaders many years ago. Never had a problem.
-
You did ask. :D

With the powder dippers and the accompanying chart(s). They can be very consistent once you've got the routine down. I haven't used them in probably 30 yrs so I don't know if older charts would be considered outdated even for the listed powders.? Lee would have that info, though.

Tickets/citations are written by law enforcement. Fines or other punitive damages are levied by a court or a judge.

Thanks for the reminder.

The gear in your pics might be seriously worth something to a collector. I'm not a collector, so I can't even begin to put a $ value on it, and I can't identify most of it off the top of my head. Do some research regarding the model numbers and such on ebay and gunbrokers to see what you have in that box. You may be surprised at what it's worth.

Echo the above!! Best to you.

Looks like a good spot for an all-day sit in a week or so. Best of luck to you! -
Can't wait for the pics.

I'd like to hear the response to this. -
If It's Brown, It's Down..I Hate this term!

I prefer, "kill 'em 'n grill 'em". Less ambiguity. -
Welcome, and congratulations! Remember to vote.

Everything I see is 5 hrs ahead! Nobody ever said anything about adjusting my 'settings'. lol I can tune a guitar or a chainsaw, (somewhat similar btw), but this is going to open a new world for me!! I will never eat dinner at 1PM again! Fixed it. I was on Casablanca time (GMT). If that sultry gal with the husky voice doesn't come back soon I'll probably just switch the settings back though.

First time I had it was with a couple of friends on a lunch break during a canoe hunt in 1979. Heart slices skewered on willow sticks over a campfire. We even remembered the salt & pepper, lol. We paddled back in the dark that night with three guys and two deer in a Coleman canoe showing about an inch of free-board.

Sounds like a great setup, eagle rider! Boyd's makes some very nice stocks. Best of luck to you this season.

I'm always a lot more concerned with the widow-makers overhead being dislodged and taking me out. I don't cut firewood in heavy winds for this reason. Riding that tree in your photo to the ground probably wouldn't kill you, but I'm not going to put the experience on my bucket list.
