  1. How willing are you to push it out of the woods if/when something goes wrong?
  2. No! But thanks for putting that image in my head, LOL. Now I need some aspirin. He's in law enforcement and asked that I not post his pics here.
  3. Welcome to the forum, bfit! Glad to have you aboard.
  4. Actually not a lard-butt by any means. He's just a big dude, and relatively fit. Pretty comical when I get into a pic with him because I'm 5"-6" and weigh about 135#. Wouldn't be 'camp' w/out him! He's good at dragging deer, too.
  5. One of the guys in our 'camp' comes out butt naked every evening asking for a tick check. He's 6'-4", bald, and weighs 350 lbs. We steel ourselves for this nightly event through generous libation.
  6. Which begs the question: if you're not sleeping with your pants an socks on is it really a hunting camp?
  7. Notice how it's closing a little bit though. Lots of these pollsters come to the table with an agenda as well, by wording their questions in a way that will get the responses they want. It ain't over 'til it's over.
  8. Congrats! You managed to kill a wild deer. That's the basic definition of hunting. They don't come into my yard until Jan and Feb, when it's too late. I think they know me. Enjoy the grill tonight!
  9. Welcome to forum, and best of luck to you!
  10. I made a suggestion a month or so ago that folks should not be posting "work-around solutions" to the up-coming ammo background checks. Vendors who still sell to NYS gun enthusiasts should be praised, welcomed, and have their contact info posted, by all means. It's all still legal in this state. The vendors need our support, and we need theirs. My point in that post regarding the work-arounds was to not let the lawmakers know where the weaknesses are in their regulations. Posting that you will be able to circumvent the law (as currently written) by doing such and such in the future just makes their job that much easier when the law is amended and actually put in place.
  11. I don't shop around enough, I guess. A critique would be nice though!
  12. Good for you on helping the young lady out! I've done a good deal of mentoring in a variety of disciplines over the years: shooting, hunting, radio-controlled airplanes, racing go-karts, woodworking, home-building and renovation, etc. One of the first things that leaves my mind is gender. I look at the interest level and willingness to learn. Some guys, I guess, have a problem with that, for whatever reason. Some guys just flat-out don't have the ability, or lack the confidence in the abilities they do have, to even try to help someone new. My $.02 Mark
  13. The folks in Albany need something to do. If they weren't screwing things up all the time they'd have to get real jobs. Have a little compassion, man!
  14. Moving firewood from the more remote stacks. Tractor maintenance and prep for the snow after that.
  15. It hurts for sure to lose one, but we have to learn from it and keep at it. Best of luck!
  16. If you're drinking a bunch of beers the night before it's not such a good idea.
  17. If they're working for you, have at it and do so with confidence. It's not about the money you throw at the deer.
  18. Hunting on public land with 'advanced' tree stands.
  19. Glad you got the new gear up and running! Definitely looking forward to more pics.
  20. Sounds exciting. Best of luck to ya!
  21. Hello and welcome! Glad to hear you're getting back into it. Remember to vote.
  22. Very true Growalot. Genetics and nutrition. The genetics are here in nys, and nutrition can change year-to-year.
