My neighbor came home yesterday. He called me from his office last evening. Amazes me. Shot clear through the neck Sunday and back to work Wednesday. Other than a little hoarseness to his voice, he sounded fine. Will go over and visit tomorrow so I can get the full story. What he was able to tell me is as he was driving he heard a shot....then a second which seemed much closer, and next thing he knows his passenger window shatters and he was hit. He was able to pull over, where a woman walking her dog assisted him. She saw the deer running after the shots. He is a man of God....was on his way home to play guitar in the folk group at the 4:00 p.m. mass......he has good angels indeed.

He was able to tend to himself and call for help. There is not a whole lot of room in the human neck to get of it without paralysis or other significant damage. By all accounts he is expected to make it without any long term effect...at least thats what I’m told. The guy hunting was only 150 feet off the road. Morons like him make us all look like a bunch of goons. I hear you on the harping on safety. My nephew wanted to shoot me bf every hunt because I would give the same safety briefing until he was 25 I still do it on occasion to this day

Thank you for your kind concern. I am at the point that I quit hunting the SZ 10 yrs ago. I stick to the quieter NZ and hunt exclusively out of box blinds. SZ becomes a frenzy to so many that just want to kill a deer. Too many people packed into small areas they should not even be hunting with rifles just to shoot a deer. I was always on edge and flinched when I heard shots.

I just got a call from my neighbors wife. Her husband left their second home on Skaneateles Lake...about a mile from their home a bullet came through his car and went clear through his neck. He had a successful surgery and should be home in a dew days. State Police and DEC have the hunter and are investigating. Sounds like he shot at a deer and you know the rest. Once that bullet leaves the gun we have a responsibility to know where it is going. Please be careful out there !!!

Good luck to you all. 4 Steelhead yesterday and wife hooked her first. We started late and only got 4 hours in on the water. Wind made it tough. Grabbing breakfast and heading out soon to try to pick away at a few. I expect big crowds so we will see what we can do. Be careful out there -

Since I lost my hunting area this year, wife and I are heading to Altmar today and are staying at the tailwater lodge through Saturday for some Steelhead fishing. Fishing has been less than great but at least we will be out of the office and I can try a couple of the new Switch rods I built this fall while not hunting. -

Moog...I used Gorilla Glue on mine and it saved them for at least light duty stuff. Great boots. My more expensive rubber boots all ended up cracking at the ankles. The Mucks lasted the the best for the money. -

I usually wade out off the canal but its a real mess now. Its hard dodging the idiots out there. They crawl right on top of you as soon as you catch one. Was almost a brawl last week on the canal. Im going to start hitting the northeast part of the lake. We try to get up there 3 times a week if we can manage. -

I am living vicariously through all of you this season. After 30 years and promises that I was to own the property I hunt and have spent thousands of dollars working and improving, my uncle decides he wants to put a solar farm on the property I hunt in the NZ. This came a week before the season started and after the neighbors accepted a cash offer on their house which we were going to make a summer home/hunting camp. Needless to say, in utter disgust and heartbreak, I dismantled and removed 6 box blinds, 4 hang ons, 13 cameras and everything else I have accumulated on the property over 30 years. Not to mention 25 years of "free legal" work on the premise that he would take care of me when it was time to make the exchange. Have to love family!!!!!! -

TheSe were my hunting only arrows save a few shots into the bag before the season to make sure all was well. These arrows were chosen from the shop that built my bow. I never heard of them before but they are fairly popular. They have a weaved pattern and have always shot very well. I guess the fact it exploded could have been better than splitting because We have all seen the damage that does to an arm. But the impact of whatever part hit my wrist was awful. I did shoot my backup bow this afternoon but it was all over the place. God doesn’t want me in the woods this weekend. Im going to get new arrows Monday and just get back in the saddle. Im going to replace the sh..y rest on my backup bow as well. It has a whisker biscuit which I have always hated but the bow did shoot extremely well last week. -

Cleaned it up really good. The cut was minimal. Its the bruising from the impact that really hurt. Felt like I hit it with a hammer. -

Covered in deer all morning in 5H...nephew passed a wide 6....at 9:30 at huge doe worked through a turnip field to me...stopped her at 22...released...and my arrow explodes. Blew pieces all over the place...then my left hand/wrists goes numb and burning...thought it was broken. Must be a big piece of arrow got through and cut my wrist snd badly bruised the pad and left thumb joint. Scared the death out of me. Took 5 minutes to get my glove off it hurt so bad. Shooting Fire and Ice arrows (expensive bastards) which are a woven carbon arrow. Have shot them for 3 years. Now I am gun-shy to ever shoot them again. Kind of gun shy to shoot sn arrow again right now. The sound of the arrow pieces blowing into the trees was freaky. -
6 box blinds. 3 hangers. 2 ladders. 68 acres

I have developed a horrible case of arm freeze. I lock up 6 inches below the POA and feel i need a winch to raise my bow arm. I have worked through it rather well but it is a horrible condition. My mind says move...my arm says no. It was so bad last season I sat it out.

Any idea what these may be? Picked in a mature pine plantation in the needle beds.

Haven’t been out in 2 weeks. Have been working our deer property and finally have it all ready to go. Going out in the morning with my nephew. We have killed 663 do far this summer. Trying to hit 1000 before rifle season starts.
-
Good shoot this morning. 95 killed. Most big flocks bypassed our field

Has anyone tried this new camera yet? Im considering giving them a try. I strictly use it for pictures. I have never used video. I have several brownings but never use the added features.

I have created a monster. My nephew is using his lunch hour to drive the roads scouting for pigeons. I must have logged 2500 miles this spring and early summer scouting areas. He is hoping for a repeat this weekend.

Too often the humane and loving decisions are the hardest. He appears to have been a gentle and devoted soul. There is nothing that compares to the eyes of a bird dog....nothing. You did right by him and will cherish the "trico" years for the years to come.
