There is a big geo cachers get together near me every year. It is held on some land up by beaver medows. Haven't been able to attend on as of yet but hoping this year.
-
Also look up bench marks through geo caching. They are old markers that were used by surveyors to find certain points and lines in the area. The ones you look for have kind of been lost. Meaning they know longer know if they are there. If you find it you take pic a log it then it is taken off such and put in records as still being ther r. They are small metal disks set in concrete block. Usually marked by sign on tree . Some times sign and tree are gone.
-
Yeah I forgot about that. Need to have android system though. C geo. I actually use both. Load the caches I'm going to look for in phone and up date them then when out. I can read up for tips or see what others have said sometimes get clues from that as well.that and when have kids with they use GPS and I use phone.have a little Garmin hand held that thing is the best for caching.

Love caching been doing it for about 8 years now. Kpkot need a GPS. Go to teaching.com. you can find out all about it there.

I like hunting. I like talking about hunting. I also like to hear others views and opinions on hunting. I like to learn new things about hunting. This is a good place for all of that. Just because I do not get excited about hunting does not mean I do not enjoy it. I just can not get excited about it. There are a lot of things in life that excite others but do not affect me in anyway.. I did get excited a little when my grandson was born.however when my son was born I said yep that's nice. His mother told everyone that was more then she thought I would do or say. Just the way I am wired

No apologies need. But thank you. I too said a few things that were not need and I apologise. If we didn't up set a blow up once and an while we wouldn't be human.it is in our nature to do that when we someone disagrees with us. We all feel we are right and being told we might be wrong weather we are or not gets our dander up. I admire the fact you do not hold back. I would rather have some come straight a time me then dance around. Being cool about things is not a bad thing but sometimes going straight at some one is good for both sides. FIS and I have done the same thing no worries there either.I am sure it will happen again and I welcome it.it may not seem it and I know I do not post it but I respect a lot of the things you say on here as I do everyones.I actually learn a lot from everyone on here.we just all have different opinions. I can Handel it so any time you need to just let me have it. I would have left here along time ago if not. Or at least I would never post anything. Things like this make me think about my views and even if I do not change them I still need to rethink them every now and again.

Where did I say I do not take photos? I said I do not pose in the pics. I feel it is disrespectful to pose over any kill I have made. The only point being made is that you ether can't or do not read. You have tried to say I said so many things that I never said it is ridiculous. Stop spinning what is said. Actually not spinning the words are being replaced with your own. Grampy I never said I do not respect the animal. I just do not get excited like others do. I have pics of every animal I have killed. I can recall each hunt and kill when looking at those pics. The memories are there. I have never gotten excited over hunting. It is something I do and enjoy doing. My heart does no race I don't not start breathing hard. I see the animal and I just think you are dead. They provide food for me. That is it. I am in the woods more them most work in a year. I see these animals all the time when season comes around I kill them for food. That's it no excitement never have figured out why others get that way. To each there own. I do not begrudge some one getting excited. Actually when i see it i sometimes i could feel the way they do about it.The thing is that in my eyes there is nothing to get excited about. It is nothing to be sad about. Excitement just is not in me.
-
Sorry to disappoint you but I nor anyone i hunt with has the need to brag that causes us to pose with any of our kills. I have never and will never disrespect any animal by standing over it pumping my fist for a photo. Why do you keep sayings giants? I never sad anything was a giant. The buck you asked for age on is no where near a giant either. In fact I have never seen one I would call a giant. That is in the woods or pics of trophies gotten around the country. I see guy say a buck is a giant or monster when pics of nice bucks are posted here and other places and I just r on not see it. Sorry but no buck alive or in pictures has ever made me say we ow a giant. I have never been able to get excited over them the w as you others do. I guess that is because I see them as a source of food and nothing more.never been able to see them the way you guys do. Even on my first hunt not one bit of excitement. Just a job to do and that is put food on the table.

Yet another one who uses antler size to judge age. My God be with you my brother
-
And I agree that he is 2.5. And that is what was said in my first post. Then I said was if he was in my area he could be a 1.5. That is when everything went nuts. If you guys do not think he could be 2.5 fine I'm good with that. But in till you hunt where I do then you can not say we do not have 1.5 year olds that size. I also agree antlers have little to do with age. However it seems that everyone thinks a buck can not be 1.5 and be more then a spike. No problems with the roast. He asked for our thoughts I gave mine. It is his problem he does not like it if some one does not think the way he does. He should have told us th we answer he was looking so we could all have just said yep you are right
-
So there it is. This is all because I was the one that said what so many others think but do not say. Just like a bow hunter you can talk down about anyone but don't they dare say a bad thing about you. Who said anything about 9h? I said my main hunting area also said that is in 9n. By the way you do realize that you got all jumpy about my post and it was not even you I quoted and said those things too right? DB hunter NY asked where I hunted I answered and told him I was sorry he did not see bucks like that and I did. I said because he said he would hunt where I do. That would suggest that he does not see those bucks where he does. King of assumptions? You call me out on saying that bu c know could be 1.5 around me just because you do not see 1.5 that size where you hunt so you assume they do not exist. None of the pics I post are barrowed. I took those pics which makes them mine. I have also stated that not all the pics I post are of my own kills. I need not barrow anything from anyone. Where have I ever said I have taken giants or said any of the deer I posted pics of were giants. Some were nice bucks yes but far from giants. I have taken a few nice bucks but never claimed them to be giants. I have taken more small bucks then big and have no problem saying that nor showing pics which I have done. What good would it do me to post any more pics as you and others would just say they were fake or not mine anyways. You would just put your own spin on them as you guys do everything. You posted a pic of a deer and asked what we thought it's age was. If you didn't want an answer you didn't like then why not just say this is a 2.5 year old tell us we had to say 2.5 or not answer. Do not ask someone what they think if you are going to throw a fit when they tell you what they think. Why are you so hard pressed to call me a lier when you have never hunted the woods I do nor had the deer killed on that land in your hands. By you thinking any one of us could say that buck you got last year was not yours. I never saw you get it I do not hunt where you do so I can not say I saw you shoot it. All I have is your word and a pic. I do believe you and have never said other wise yet my word and pics are no good. And you decide to say I said things I did not .like saying the pics were of giants. Get off your stick and string high horse and move on.
-
I said 2.5 for this deer. I said he could be a 1.5 around here. I also never said you do not see bucks. I said bucks like this. Just because there good size bodied deer around our area does not mean they are every where. I have hunted places where , as someone already said it would be a 3.5 year old. If this deer could be older then 2.5 in some areas then why can't it be younger in some. When did I say any of you didn't know what they were talking about. There things about that deer that in my normal hunting areas would make it a 1.5 year old. I never said he would be a 1.5 every where. Put a set of spikes on him or make him a tiny 4 point everyone would have said 1.5 years.chases deer is bigger and has body shape then the one you posted his is decently a 2.5.Antler size leads little to the age of a buck. Not saying it has nothing to do with it just very little. I am sure more then one of us has seen ,gotten or knows of a 3.5 or older that had spokes or 4 points. Like I said sorry that you do not see 1.5 year olds with good rack and body. My area has them.
-
I hunt 9n plenty of forage and lots of ag. We see very few spikes fork horns or anything smaller then 6 points.if we record 4 bucks smaller then a 6 in one year that's it. I'm not talking the whole unit just my little corner. But like I have said judging from a pic is just guessing. Look at the buck Chas posted the neck line meets the brisket a lot nicer then the other one also the nose as some shape to it not as narrow as the first buck. And I would call chases buck a 2.5. If there is no way that buck is a 1.5 the most of the bucks born on and around me are born as 2.5 and we have no 1.5 year olds. Sorry if you do not see bucks like this but just because you don't does not mean I dont. Size comes from more then just age. What they have to eat and where they live has a lot to do with it as well. A well fed animal will be bigger then a poorly fed one. Why is it so hard to believe that could be a 1.5? Is it just because he has more then 3 little points?
-
I would say 2.5. Could be a well fed 1.5 around here. As grow said his neck and brisket do not meet right for more then 2.5. His legs and nose just do not have the structure for more and the real isn't a lot of mass showing yet. But like I have said before it is only a guess from a pic. If he was on the ground in our hands it could be a whole different story.
-
I don't care who you are you can not tell the age of a deer by looking at a picturs. You can guess all you want but unless you have that animal in your hands you are only making a close guess. All the deer I posted were from the last 5 to 6 years. Big deal. Didn't any where that it was asked for picks gotten within the last few days. Did you? As I have stated before the AR would not affect me in any way. Not that hard to get 6 ,8 10 point or bigger deer around me. The numbers have been coming up very well since we stopped people like from hunting around us. That's just it you probably can post pics of what others kill because you have none of your own. The pics I post are of deer killed by myself and others on and around out property. Never once did I say or imply that they were all killed by me. Call them babies or what ever you want. Bothers me in no way at all. I do not agree with trophy hunting but I unlike you will never put another hunter down for the size of buck he or she decides to kill. Everyone should be able to kill what ever size makes them happy without a joke like you telling it is not good enough. People like are half of what is wrong with hunting in this state. Tell you what you buy my tags, get me a new gun ( savage 25 06 peferably) and pay for hunting clothes and my land and next year you can tell me exactly what I can kill ad be happy with. Until then just keep pretending to be better the the rest of us. Pretending and running you moth to back it up seems to be what you are good at. Have a nice day big boss man
-
I corrected that. I didn't realize that two of the same were posted. By the way I said some of the 2.5 and up year Olds I never once said those pics were of yearlings. Try actually reading. You like to talk cap about the pics others post yet never post anything to back up any of your own claims. Go play with your farm raised genetically in handed deer and leave others alone.

SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program

I have no clue why it says I quoted u as saying that. That is part of a post I made. No idea what happened there but was not my doing. -
SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program
stubby68 replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Deer Hunting
You better reread what has been written over and over again. In fact someone even said people would have to go out of state to get a second buck if we had obr. Every mention of one has had people for AR saying no no no. Most times obr was mentioned Noone said we need it for anything. What was said is if any change is needed for the good of the herd then why not obr I stead of ar? Obr would mean fewer bucks being killed among them being smaller 1.5 year Olds because someone might not shoot that young buck just to get horns under his belt then wait for a second bigger buck. We have showed pics that prove there quite quickly number of 1.5 year Olds that could still be killed with ar. Those bucks could just have a better chance of a pass with obr. If it is all about the herd then obr would be the better choice. Maybe just maybe if the argument was we want ar because we want to force others to hunt the way we do. Or we want ar because we want big racks and as many as we can get the wouldn't be so much disdain for ar.Heck in Nebraska th r you are thinking of going to ar and they came right out and said it was because the out of states come here for big racks and we want to capitalize on that. Still people pushing against it but at least the real reason for wanting ar was owned up to. When we say why not go with obr we ar not taking away anybody ability to kill what they want. Obr will still let you shoot the big boy you want and let someone else kill what ever they want. Obr just limits how many of each can be killed. It would leave a few extra for the next year. You know leave a few for seed. Just think if a 150 inch buck get a pass because there is a 160 inch walking around the guy would like to get instead that 15 could be a 180 next year. You know the saying w just think what buck would have scored if let go another. With ar the 150 would get killed then when the 10 can by that would be killed also making for 2 less wal, hangers instead of one. Same cam be said for little bucks. Would it be better if a guy shot 2 8 point 1.5 year Olds or just one leaving one to be a 2.5 year old 10 or bigger. If we need more bucks then obr is a better way to do it then ar which still allows for close to the same number of bucks killed every year. Obr would cut down on the total number of bucks killed per year in much greater numbers. -
Call b.s. all you want. I know what they were . It is hard to tell by pic I understand that. I had these deer in hand. Even the trail cam photo. No after kill photo of that available. We see very few spikes or forkhorns in our woods. Not saying none just few. We even have a few 4 and 5 points. We have many 6,8,10point 1.5 year old deer. Ar would not affect me as far as being able to shoot bucks. It would as far as it forces me to kill what someone else says I should because another hunter wants to controlling what I do as to benefit himself. That fact is at will do little to protect a large number of yearling bucks. That can not be done with points. But then I see a lot of you equate age with number of points so I can see why some would think point restrictions will help. The only ar we need is a restriction on the number of bucks each hunter can kill not the size.

They gain on point every year don't they? By the way nice buck

Didn't realize that happened these are the ones that should have been there. MOV950564.3gp

I do not put restrictions on what size or a the bucks have to be to kill them on our property. Many many 1.5 year olds are killed yet we still have bucks like these. Some of the 2.5 and up that we have. We do not high grade and kill all the big boys so we can have them as decorations. We hunt for the meat and the 1.5 or 2.5 are better eating. I have and will continue to pass old bucks to get a younger better tasting one. Unless it is my last chance then I will fill my tag with whatever gets in front of me. I paid for that tag and will make sure it gets filled. If it is an old buck it gets donated. I pay for my tags not anyone else. I should have the choice to hunt they way I want and kill what I want with those tags. The day someone else pays for my tags guns hunting clothes and lad is the day the should be able to tell me how to hunt and what to kill. MOV_6014_2.3gp

All of these are 1.5 years old all on same property all can still be killed under ar. I am not the only on who has stated they see many 1.5 year old 6,8 and 10 points. Almost sounds like you age deer by counting points alone see as the dec. I am against ar because it takes choice away and it does nothing for the herd. If you or anyone else want to help the best thing would be to push for a one buck rue. That would go farther to letting more bucks live then ar. Killing less bucks over all would be better right? If it really is about the animal and not about the antlers then people should be fine with only getting one set of antlers each year. However that is not the case for most. They want lots of big antlers so the can get 2 or 3 sets every year.
