  1. Same round we shoot. Broad side shots are always pass through. If sharp quartering to shot and bullet goes length of body we get 50 50 on pass through. The ones that don't always get found looking like yours. Deer usually go fight down if they don't they never get out of sight. These things cause a lot of damage. We use 100 grain 777 50 50 behind them. Have tried others but none as good as these. Especially the shockwaves. Those things are junk.
  2. Merry Christmas to all. My you have a wonderful day with loved ones.
  3. Maybe this has already been said. I wouldn't say shooting deer makes you a better hunter maybe just gives you experience. Experience seeing and watching deer is on on level but shooting them jumplay it up a level. Get a few under your belt and you will see what I'm trying to say.
  4. Mine never come off. I use it to steady for long shots and will hold sling where it hooks to forearm for other shots. Not often that I grab hold forearm of gun when shooting unless a pump. I've gotten quite fast at getting gun to a shouldered shooting position from a shouldered sling if needed.
  5. Some states you can't get the grain 190 proof in. There is a little store just over the PA border that sells it to you if you have out of state id. That stuff knocks your socks off. Haven't had it in years. I'm sure if I looked around long enough I could find a bottle in the house. Maybe have to look for New years.
  6. Everclear grain alcohol is 190 proof
  7. Like I said I have posted those and many other pics when having to prove myself on here. You have seen them. Go look for them I am done posting pics to prove people wrong. If you think I am wrong about they apple in hand and where then you do not know the park the way you say you do. I have seen people there with their kids watching them. Plenty of people hunt the bottom off the trsils. If you actually go down where you elude that you do then you know you are by far not the only guy who goes there. But then again I have never seen you put any pics as prove as to where you hunt or any pics of deer that were more then scrub bucks. No none of those picks I posted in the thread you are talking about were killed with a bow also were not all mine. But point to fact one of those bucks is 148 and one is a 141. I made a point of saying not all city hunters or city people. I simply stated that any stories I hear or problems I have had were with city people. As for sleds they are toys and serve no purpose other then to make an adult feel like a little kid. They belong in the toy box with your GI Jane dolls. Done arguing with you. Go look up the pics or not. They are there it's up to you. But I am sure you won't because you might just get proved wrong.
  8. Quoted wrong post in my last post sorry Larry.
  9. You mean they are suppose to stay on trail. Heck down town the trail crosses main street go's up past gas station then swings back around back to gas station. The sidewalks are marked and blocked no snowmobilesuch Guess what everyone through there goes down sidewslk. No regard for warnings until the cops start handing out tickets. They blow across my front and back yard and there is no trail within a 1/2 mile. They cut through lawns to get to another part of trail to save time. Not just a couple bad apples. A whole basket of bad. This thread is not about that though so let's bring it back to the hunting seasons. Not the toy season.
  10. We had that argument back when I first joined this site. You also asked for pics of good bucks I had gotten.I posted them then and proved what I was saying go find them. Even a couple bigger then 130. As for getting away from my truck ? Because of my connections down there I probably have access to spots you have never seen. Not that anyone would have to get far from there truck. Just park at maintaince building walk out back with a apple in your hand. You will see way bigger then 130 class deer. There guy who work in the park who will not hunt there because of all the other hunters there. I have seen parts of the gorge pushed by 30 guys while I was stuck in between the walkers and standers. They walk right by and just wave.
  11. Where did I say gun season isn't long enough? Bow season was long enough too but people pushed for and got 2 weeks added to it. As for the toys keep them on their own property. Or take them up north where there are fewer people to bother with the noise and fewer roads to cross or ride down. Even fewer yards for them to ride through at 2 in the morning without permission.
  12. Snowmobiles have all winter to ride losing a couple weeks won't hurt them. Most years they do not even have enough snow to ride until January anyways. I laugh when I hear guys complain because the isn't enough for them to get there little toys out a and play. If that state pushed a bill to stop it all together I would vote 5 times for the person you proposed it. Years ago I hit a guy with my truck. He never stopped at a road crossing and flew out right in front of me. Tried saying it was his crossing and I should have stopped for him when I saw him coming across the field. That didn't fly. Ended up with lots of tickets and paid for repairs to my truck. They are toy they should be kept in your yard. Or at least on your own land.
  13. No reason other then if you try doing something one way and it doesn't work then try doing it the other way. Bow hunters say change the season all the time so a gun hunter should be able to say the same 5 hang right?
  14. I hunted with a bow in Ny for many years. I know what the deer are like that time of year. It was very easy to fill my freezer then. Too easy and too warm. Warm weather and easy deer did not make me feel like I was hunting. I never said I was pushing for a longer gun season. Would I complain about one?No. Would I have complained when I did bow hunt? Nope. As you said deer are plenty during bow season and disappear during gun. Wouldn't that make it easier to kill deer during bow and warrant a shorter season. As the deer disappearing during gun makes it harder causing a need for more time to get a deer. I actually suggested bow and gun season each being 3 weeks long. I mentioned Nebraska hunting season because NY hunting season has been compared to other states with shorter gun and longer bow seasons. Giving an example of a state that has no problem with one long season for all weapons at once. This is NY and we can not manage our hunting or deer herd like another state. Yet everyone keeps suggesting that we do just that. I hunt mainly in 9h and 9n but with some time in other units. It has been years since I have in countered more then one or two hunters on state land. Also been a long time since I saw more then a couple trucks parked along the road with hunters in the woods anywhere. Actually this year I saw only 3 vehicle total on any of my trips across 9h to where I hunt in 9n. The biggest talk after the first weekend around this area is the lack of shots heard and hunters seen. Even the state land in areas had very few hunters. Bow season seems to have many more hunters out in the woods the last few years. Only place I ever see hunter on hunter is in Letchworth state park.
  15. Wait after gun season starts the deer go nocturnal. Meaning they only come out at night. Wouldn't this mean more time is needed to get a deer since you can't hunt at night. I mean the season in which deer are seen more day timeshould then be the shorter. More deer seen in shooting hours means more opportunities right? Deer out during non shooting hours means less opportunities right? As for needing more time to kill deer. Well what about those who have very title time to get out. Maybe only a couple of days as it is. Should those guys be forced to stop hunting just because others want the season shorter and that could take away the only days they could get out? If you do not need much time to get a deer then why is it OK for bow season to be so long. If it is that easy for gun hunters to get deer when the deer are all nocturnal then how easy must it be for bow hunters when the deer are all diurnal. Which is it? Easy for gun hunters when deer only move at night? Or bow hunters when deer are moving during the day? Bow hunters always talk about how many more deer they see and how calm they are before the (orange army) gets out there. If this is true then why is it easier to kill deer after the ( orange army) is out there. You would think they would be harder to kill when only out at night and always nervous and on edge. Hence needing a longer season to get it done. Heck bow hunters always say they like the change of hunting with a bow. Lets run bow and gun together.Wouldn't it be even a bigger challange when the deer are nocturnal and nervous and on edge. I mean that would make it a challange. Not having the Rome around aimlessly calm and at ease with the world. I use to bow hunt I know how easy it is to fill a freezer that time of year. I also know how many old bucks I was able to kill because they had only one thing on there mind and didn't care if I was wearing neon pink and doing jumping Jacks they still walked to within range. Face it bow hunters want a shorter gun season so they can push for a longer bow season and the big ones will be easy to kill longer. I would like to see bow season moved back to Oct 15 to open. First weekend in Oct be a youth hunt then a 10 day muzzy doe only. 3 day rest and you have bow.then gun the second saturday of November to second Saturday in December. Both bow and gun get same amount of time.
  16. They tried making bow season longer and that didn't work. Why not put bow season back the way it was and try a longer gun season. Tried it one way now try the other way.
  17. I feel bad for you guys that see so much bad from people during gun season. I am surely glad I do not hunt the areas you guys do. Are there a few jack wagons out there? Sure are but few and far between.Do I hear stories from hunters in my area of bad run in with other hunters? Yes but not many. They only problem hunters we get around here are city hunters. AND IN NO WAY AM I SAYING ALL HUNTERS FROM THE CITY. NOR AM I SAYING ONLY. I am just saying the biggest problem I have run into on state land or with neighbors of our private land is from the guys from the city. They are the ones who cause most of the stories I hear aswell. As an example the guy who owns the 400 acres we lease lives in Rochester and hates city hunters. He will not lease any land to someone from the city. One of our neighbors lives in the city and tried to lease the land before I got it. Part of the lease agreement is that only local country folks are allowed on it I am to keep all city people off. That includes the neighbor even to recover a hit deer. However if they need to track a deer onto that property they know they have my permission to do so. In no way would I refuse someone the right to retrieve a hit deer. Like I said I feel bad for those who have to put up with such bad hunters in there area
  18. You're correct you didn't say longest. My mistake. No I'm not a bow hunter, doesn't have anything to do with it. All seasons does not seem to hurt the hunting for my brother. He hunts with all 3 weapons. I have visited him and talked hunting with him and others who live and hunt there. None of them have a problem with it. They like having the choice to use what ever weapon they chose to on any given day. Why should it be a problem to have guns and bows in the woods at the same time?
  19. My brother lives in Nebraska. He is able to hunt deer from September 1 to December 31. Bow, riffle, muzzle loader. Not separate seasons all run together. There are a few areas that are bow only though. He has taken 7 so far and is still out there. Which weapon he uses is up to him. That is a way longer gun season then ny.
  20. I DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING MOUNTED. Just because there are mounts made of what I shoot does not mean I had those mounts done nor does it mean they are mine. What part of my father does what he want with the heads is Har to under stand? You guy are so set that trophy hunting is the way to go because you need it to feel like a real hunter that you read between every letter looking for anything to complain about. Does not matter if it is me or anyone else who disagrees with you. You don't even read what is wrote. If you did you would have seen where I stated my father does shoulder and euro mounts for a hobby project. Not only deer and not only mounts. It's like talking with 4 year Olds every word has to be explained. I ha email never changed my story. I said I don't have any mounts and I dont. Did I kill the animal? Yep. did I ask someone to mount it? Nope. Do I have them in my house? Nope. Do I give a rats behind about them ? Only for the fact that it is something my father made. Until my father picked up the hobby all racks went in trash. Does this help at all? I do not get excited about antlers or deer. They are food plain and simple. Any pics I have are because my grandfather started a diary years ago of all deer we have taken. Big small buck doe. They are all in diary with pics and info of hunt day, time weather, where gotten, gun used how many seen. Have I cleared things up? Maybe hockey on phonics would help. Why is it that trophy hunters always try to disprove someone when they say they hunt for meat not bone. You peop, email need to get a grip on what actually matters in life. News flash it is not decorations on your wall.
  21. I do not have anything mounted. My father does what he wants with them. He sometimes mounts them shoulder, sometimes euro , some get cut up for knife handles, cabinet handles. whatever he thinks to have projects in the winter months. He even sells some antlers. He has done euros on squirrel , fox, coyotes , beaver. Whatever just projects it is something he likes to do.All work done by him never sent out. He hangs them in his shop, the cabin a few in his house. He even does them with ones that are found dead. I have one on my wall at my house. It is a tiny little thing he put on a plaque with a knife he made. He also uses the hides of deer beaver and other animals to make sheaths for knifes. I have no need for mounts myself.
  22. Many times most recently the antler restriction thread. My intro thread when I first joined. Any number of times When I have been called out on my hunting.
  23. Don't know how it happened but half that post was actually typed in another thread.Everything went here in one post instead of two separate posts in two different threads.
