haha no I don't (or any other bars for that matter) and that's my point. I don't really care what others think of my camo clothes or my camo JEEP. Have we really become so meek as to let other people dictate how we dress? hmmm a song comes to mind.

the same can be said about guys wearing hi-vis "construction" shirts or work boots. Half the guys you see wearing them have lotion soft hands, waxed eyebrows and skinny jeans! lol

Just where you feel comfortable, but obviously within your shooting range. I want to stress that you keep wind direction, speed, and swirl in mind. If you know where their bedding & feeding areas are, try to set up somewhere in the middle. You should also plan your route into the blind, again taking wind into consideration. It would be wise to have spots picked out for every wind direction. With a pair of pruning shears and some natural fiber twine you can make some pretty sweet blinds. Good luck and keep on asking questions, that's what we're here for.

I just saw on craigslist there's a guy in Afton that's parting out a '99

I used to hate them too for killing our Jack Russell. I waged war on them and quickly found them to be a worthy adversary. Now I respect them as great hunters that are very smart and cunning. I enjoy hunting them and love when they come trotting in just to get wailed by my shotgun!

When do you stop entering the woods before the season opener?

I'm throwin a kegger out there next Tuesday night. Come on out and BYOB! lol I just checked a cam today. Next time I go in I'll be in full camo & ready to draw blood! -
longer shells just allow for more shot and maybe a touch more powder

if you're looking to buy a rifled barrel shotgun for deer, I think 20ga is better than 12 and also easier on your shoulder!
-
depends on what you're hunting. For deer I've always just used 2 3/4 slugs. For turkey I prefer 3" #5 shot & for predators 3" #4BUCK
-
both for me too.

it's never too late. You still have 1 1/2 months til deer season. If I had to choose, I'd look into a T/C Encore pro hunter. You can buy most any caliber barrel for them and they are sweet shooters. My brother has the .20ga rifled, 25-06, and .50cal muzzleloader barrels. They're all deadly with good scopes with BDC reticles. Another good thing is that you can leave the scope on the barrels so they're always ready to go.

I just wanted to clear this up. There is no law against the use of lead split shot of any size in NYS. Lead sinkers of 1/2oz. or less cannot be sold in NYS.

luckily one of my co-workers lives just over the border and told me I could have ammo shipped to his house any time.

WHOS EXCITED 12 DAYS LEFT TILL BOW SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PREDATE replied to HUNTINGS IN MY DNA's topic in Bow Hunting
I'm excited too, but I'm gonna diversify this year. I haven't hunted much small game in the past few years so I'll probably hunt some turkeys for the first couple weekends and yotes at night then get serious about deer around the 20th -
might take you up on that. I'll let you know tomorrow.
-
pretty cool, but I question if it was really a pack of coyotes that opened up or an E-caller/foxpro.

Wasn't it Donald Trump who said, "they've been lighting their water on fire for decades"? So NY can put moratoriums on fracking, but it is known that the fracking fluid is trucked up to the waste treatment facility in Binghamton so it can be minimally treated before being released into the Susquehanna river. It probably won't be long til Cuomo throws a gas pad on every chunk of state land.
-
I try to buy local whenever I can. So many farms are calling it quits. Without local farms/producers, we're bing hit with packaging & shipping costs.
-
If I get a whole day to hunt, I will hunt all day. The only reason I'll go back to my Jeep is to drive to another hunting spot. I rarely sit in one spot all day. It all depends on wind direction.
-
I don't mean to scold people or make them leave the site, but admitting that you poach(especially when you acknowlede that it is wrong) is not gonna fly around here. 2 of the OP's 18 posts are trail cam pics of bald eagles & yotes on a deer carcass... well there's your problem!
-
I hope the sawbones can fix ya up good. Most importantly, stay safe out there because we all know that it'll take more than knee problems to keep you outta the woods so keep the cellphone on ya.
-
not sure about the hunting, but the time you indicated is peak rut, so you might have a decent chance. There is plenty state land down that way so opening weekend of gun should bring alot of movement. If you choose state land for opening day, get in early and stay all day. Let the other hunters move the deer.
