  1. yep that's my sister, the frickin poacher
  2. I don't recall anyone talking about the guy who merely fillmed a hunt, but nice to meet you rebbie. My name is Milo Hansen
  3. anybody know where I can pick up a kisser button? Just kidding, trying to lighten the mood. Glad you got it figured out. I just totally dismantled my bow last night to make sure nothing was outta whack
  4. you can no longer purchase them, but if you owned one before our state constitution was spat on you are allowed to keep them if you get it registered. That's how I understand it, unless something has changed.
  5. We call em 50/50 burgers, well we actually just use a 70/30 ratio of venny and slab bacon and it's to die for!Whoa!.....hold up! You ground up beef short ribs? no no no no no!
  6. I dunno.... I've seen way too many shows that feature big properties, big feeders and big bucks. I think having big properties is the most important. They have the big deer and plenty habitat to support these deer. They can also control who hunts, where they hunt and how many deer are taken. A good point was brought up in an earlier post and that is if everyone had a pile of feed out, the deer could easily just jump from property to property seeking out the best food. Could this cause deer to take up larger home ranges? Possibly. In turn, could this allow for more car vs. deer collisions? Possibly. One factor that hasn't made it's way into this thread yet is the fact that halfway through our deer seasons the bucks really don't give a hoot about food. So who's to say that keeping a group of does in the area with piles of feed won't draw in the big boys?
  7. preeeetty sure Jason is first on the score board!
  8. maybe a flying squirrel?

Heading down to the riv now to try out my new home made lure. Hopefull old Howie Manges is dead wrong about the rain for a few more hours.
  10. We hunted there on opening morning of gun season a few years ago when word got out about the wild boars up there. All I can say is wow, what a shyt show! It sounded like a fricking battle zone. We got there an hour before daylight and there was already probably 60 vehicles parked along the road that goes right through the forest and that doesn't include the community of campers parked along the road. I set up on the edge of the swamp to try and catch a hog coming through, but never saw a single animal. My brother filled his 7j dmp before we left there at 9am.
  11. (If) you're someone who hunts coyotes at night, this is another scenario in which I believe it pays to get to know and remain in good standings with your local Eco's because it is legal. This may be an excuse that jacklighters use, but trust me when I say that Eco's are trained to be able to detect unlawful activity.
  12. I was just thinking if someone had a rubbermaid tote or something big that will hold water they could chop up some ingredients and soak equipment in it.
  13. Why stop there? You could brew up some good cover scent and give a few good soakings. Use anything you might find in your hunting spot like pine boughs, leaves, twigs, even corn cobs if you plan on setting up near a corn field. Marinate that sucker!
  14. Why does it now matter what kind of animal it is? After all, you're the one who previously said ANY animal. Trapping or hunting over bait, they're both what you described as, " just sitting on your butt and not work for what you need or want, put bait out and shoot an animal". I can see you're set in YOUR ways which is fine. It's who you are, but your previous comments of calling people who choose do do something different from you "an insult to the hunting world" and "not TRUE hunters" is frankly quite demeaning. If your motivations on this thread are really to inform the new hunters reading this post of the legality of baiting in our state, then why damn a particular action that is perfectly legal in other states. You might have unknowingly called that new hunters mom, dad, granddaddy, etc. who live in another state an insult to the hunting world.
  15. I realize this thread is titled baiting for deer, but I was irked by the statement that said baiting for ANY animal is an insult to the hunting world. Here's something to ponder. How about trapping? Is baiting not the most basic fundamental of trapping? I care to wager that no "true hunters" look down their noses at trappers and this is probably due to the Bambi Syndrome that four seasons whitetails spoke of. lol
  16. Don't be silly. I didn't quote the post(s) that I was speaking to(#'s 6, 80 and 87) that said, "hunting ANY animal over bait is not hunting and is not done by true hunters". I will say again, try it and tell me it's not hunting.
  17. They're scratching for alot more than acorns. Bugs, salamanders, nuts, tender plant shoots, etc.
  18. I think the bears should remain wild in NYS. If you start feeding them table scraps, they're gonna become a nuisance in every suburban neighborhood. Do you really want to feel like you need to walk your kids to the bus every morning with the .45 on your side because the coyotes & bear are used to eating people food?
  19. Sounds awesome! Gotta love hunting the hunters!
  20. Damn coons, opossum, and skunks! What a bunch of cob gobblers!
  21. That's some serious stuff Biz! Did you get to hear any vocalizations?
