  1. First let me wish everyone good luck for the start of the new hunting season. This the latest addition to my outfitting company. It started as a box blind build. Then as I started building, bigger seemed better. Then I found that I had enough room for a small bunk and wood stove. Now there is a porch, two shooting windows, wood stove, bunks to sleep on, chairs to sit in, throw rugs under foot, and a small table to eat on. This is all nestled in the middle of a huge stand of white & red oaks that are dropping nuts like a spring rain. 100 yards away I planted a brassica plot about 1/3 of an acre. It is just over a mile hike in on old log roads. I am thinking that this will work well for a overnight stay and getting a jump on the next morning with very little disturbance in the woods.
  2. Awesome video, well placed shot, welcome to the bow hunting brotherhood! Congratulations on your first deer and best of luck to you with your future hunts.
  3. Cool photos! Just like looking at the menu, makes me hungry!
  4. That is a redneck family reunion piñata! Who wants to go first....
  5. My thoughts were if I was wrong when I guessed him to be 2-2 1/2 two years ago when he was really 1.5 years old, then that would make him 3.5 this season. Does that make any sense?
  6. So, this buck shows up on camera last month. I have some pictures of a younger buck on the same property, only from two years ago. For the young buck I guessed his age to be 2 years old at the time as his rear end and front end are basically the same size. All of the dates and times stamped on the pic's are accurate. What's your opinion? Is it the same buck? If so, how old do you think he was in the youth pic's?
  7. "Time to put the hitch on the old bike and stud up the tires for deer season" How about stashing a bike at the start of the trail and another bike out in the area you hunt. You can ride in, shoot your buck, drag him out, then ride the other bike back to get the "ride in" bike.
  8. Welcome to Hunting NY forum. This site has some funny people that know their hunting. You'll get some tips, advice when needed, and a good laugh pretty regularly. I hope you have some fun on here, I have.
  9. Big Ol' breeder Doe. Sure is a beauty of a rack-o-antlers!
  10. The bear numbers are on the rise. I hope you see him in stand. They are a very cool, quiet big game critter.
  11. I think both bucks a nice. Looks like a 3rd young buck on the far right, but cant see his head. He has a buck body frame anyway.
  12. Awesome to hear your good news, good luck in the deer stand!
  13. I guess I missed it, thanks I will check it out.
  14. I am considering adding Ozonics to my arsenal. I am very skeptical of gimmick hunting tools, but the Ozonics ozone generator has been around for a while now. So I am asking for some help from as many of you hunters that have bought one of these so I can make a more educated decision. This will be a pretty big investment for me as I would need 6+ units and 35+ tree/ground blind attachments. Thanks for your help!
  15. Not hard to make a life line. You need 30 feet of heavy breaking strength para cord and add a special sliding knot. You also need a karabiner to attach your safety tether to the special knot. If you want me to, I can post some pics of the safety line and special knot so you can see it.
  16. Check your math, 10+10+6+23+18=67 per side totaling 134. Add your 20 inch spread=154, which I think is a reasonable score for a northern U.S. deer.
  17. Sorry to hear about your accident, hope you didn't get hurt.
  18. I set my new blinds up when I get them. I stake them down out on the lawn and let mother nature clean them of the new smell. After a few rains I will let them dry and pack them up in the provided bag. I like having my ground blinds set up before the first of September. But I wouldn't worry about that. Just be sure to camo it in good with shooting lane cutting to brush the blind in and hide it. Then I will usually spray some field spray to try and cover my tracks. Good luck to you.
  19. Hello to everyone! This is the most recent trip availability schedule for this fall into March 2015. Vermont archery season is starting in 5 weeks with only one 3 day hunt available for a group size of 4 hunters maximum. Vermont regular rifle season starts November 15th and we have two different 3 days hunts remaining both with maximum group size of 4 hunters per trip. Vermont's black powder season starts December 6th and we have one 3 day hunt available for a maximum group size of 2 hunters to add making a group of 4 hunters for that hunt, We will be starting our guided rabbit hunts near the end of December 2014 and continue through March 2015. There are many day trips available for scheduling week days and weekends. Professionally guided ice fishing trips will start near the first week of January 2015 and continue through the 1st week of March. There are also many trips still available to choose from, however booking early will secure the best bite times of the season as there is limited day trip space. Vermont's spring turkey season starts again May 1st 2015. We have a few 3 & 5 days hunts available for early season. The last two weeks of turkey season is fairly open at this time. I offer to my clients, free of charge, assistance booking lodging and meals here in town at very reasonable pricing. Go to http://www.whitetailstraategies.netto read a trip overview, purchase a VT hunting or fishing license, and to view season dates and guided hunting & fishing trip fee's. Good luck to you this season! Whitetail Strategies Guide Service Fred Scott Owner/Head Guide http://www.whitetailstrategies.net
  20. I am not sure Doc. I guess I never thought about it before. I just notice where they have scratched around and made note of it for turkey season planning. Is it possible that they can see and identify an exposed acorn, then start scratching for more? How about remembering where they ate acorn or beechnuts the year before, is that possible? Great topic for discussion I think.
  21. It is spotty for apples and such here in VT as well. In some ways it makes scouting and setting stands a bit easier, when there are fewer food sources to choose from.
  22. Awesome before and after photos. That is pretty early to shed velvet, good info to watch for velvet rubs starting now. Thanks for the heads up.
  23. If you hurry, I think there is an opening still available for hunter education course. Its never too soon! Congratulations for real! Be sure to look into the lifetime license if its available to you in your state. Best thing I ever did for buying hunting tags. Both of my girls had lifetime licenses before they were1 years old at unbelievable prices. Best of luck with your growing family.
