  1. The bdc has to be dialed in per gun scope combo. It gives you an aiming point at whichever distance that indivdual "cross hair" on your reticle shoots. It's not a purchase, then install and shoot 400 yards. You'd obv. Have to figure out what your gun shoots for yardage at each of those aiming points. And I agree with you totally about those lighted reticles, what a joke they are. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  2. Sure can't lol that's one good thing walmart is good about Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  3. You can that same nikon right at Walmart for the same price. Just got the 4-12×40 bdc nikon for my dad's rifle for 149$ .. yea I like following cabelas bargain cave for deals. Have made out well there Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  4. Thanks guys, my mind is made now lol. wcj thanks. Not a huge scope guy as you can tell. i will stick with the 40mm
  5. yea I don't need 50mm, for sure, but just looking into suggestions lol I'm probably way over thinking this. I've been told with a wider stock that the 50mm look a tad better than the smaller objectives, looking for someone to agree but im not getting that lol might just stick with the regulars. i will check out that leupold buckmaster.. i do like leupold as well.
  6. i think you are mostly correct grow.. hunters calling, and using farm scents. old mature bucks imo do not get fooled by these techniques very often. 1 mistake when using these tools and the deer gains a ton of knowledge i believe. i have a buck who is 7.5 this year, last year i had him at 100 yards as he was slowly walking the edge of corn field. i tried several calls as realistic as i could be even in a timely matter. i think he looked my way once, and just continued on through slowly. He even walked by a 3d buck decoy the lazy neighbor left leaning against a tree for his next hunt... the best tool i think a hunter can use to kill a real mature buck is scout the best we can and be in the right place at the right time. like you said, they dont get big and old by running into calls or smelling and following newly introduced scents.. when their are more mature bucks to oppose each other i think the tables might turn some. I have never grunted in a buck I have rattled in many young bucks and 2 slobs(both displaying ready to serve up), I have doe bleated in only a couple young bucks, all in my hunting career.
  7. I could be way off thinking 50 would look better than the others, I've just never seen a 50mm topped on a rifle. All mine are either 3-9×40 or 4-12×40 nikons. The wood stock Is a tad bulky compared to the typical synthetic stocks. My thinking of the 50mm objective matching the wider stock? Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  8. I recently won a couple of guns at a banquet dinner, and I have been debating on scope objective sizes to put on this rifle, a Browning A-bolt in .270. I put Nikon optics on almost everything i have, and have great luck with them so id like to stay with that brand but I don't necessarily have to.. But my question is for the the objective size.. I think the 40mm and 44mm will look to dinky on there, and was thinking more along the lines of a 50mm for looks mainly, but im sure it will also be a little brighter. I only have 40 and 44mm scopes on top of my guns now, nothing bigger. Just looking for opinions really, I will pick up a scope in the off season and have ready for next deer season. Again mainly for looks so it looks like a well topped rifle.. If this makes an sense lol Thanks in advance!
  9. My brother connected this morning from one of our best rut stands. Just got done with a rattle & grunt sequence when this guy came running in, he hadn't even got his grunt tube put away yet.. 15 yrd shot. It was a little emotional since this was the first buck taken since dad was taken from us back in March.. I'm sure he is smiling down and nothing less than proud. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  10. My brother killed a nice 8 this morning here, and was loaded with ticks as well lol Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  11. That doesn't look familiar on any of my properties. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  12. Agreed, they are quite thin in 8F, and it seems the further south you go the worse they are. Idk why. Wouldn't think bigger woods would make a difference Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  13. I didn't shoot anywheres near the person and I was well over 100yarfs away. I aimed at a nearby dead tree and fired a round.. and stated early that it wasn't the smartest choice, and a choice I won't make again lol Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  14. Tresspassers can bring out a side of you you haven't seen before Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  15. When I was younger I did something like this lol. Wasn't the smartest thing ive done, since my shots rang out coincidentally as he was climbing out my stand (he had no idea I was there, my attempts were to ruin his hunt if anything did step out) it could have had some bad consequences but it ended up ok and never saw a tresspassers the rest of that year Again not the smartest choice lol Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  16. I do think there will have to be atleast a few weeks spent either this year and or next just patrolling people. My brother would gain it more than me since I haven't hunted there in 2 years. But I'd do it for him and the sake of it being our families property. Since daylight savings happens this weekend. I can't hunt during the weekdays so maybe I'll post it even tighter and rip that stand down too. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  17. I totally agree. And have screamed and thrown people off before. Have had to take cover due to flying slugs from these people, and then finish off the deer they unloaded on, just to scream then up and down for doing what they did, hunting on us and unloading a gun.. But As of now my brother basically patrols the property. He lives a mile from the land and hunts it religiously. I can't control it much anymore due to living 60 miles away. But I'll be talking to my brother this weekend at camp and we will be making a plan for tresspassers. I try to be a nice dude, but nice doesn't get you very far in many instances these days.. I will never let these guys beat me, I do love our lands way too much. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  18. We do typically take the stands or at least leave a note saying you do not have permission to be here, do yourself the favor and not come back, until deer season is closed and you can then take your stands down and home. this way they hopefully dont ruin it for us trying to harvest something, it gets real old fast, my grandfather gave up hunting here because of this, so did my uncle. And they are the ones who own the property!! they couldnt take it anymore. you cna only call the law soo many times.. people like this are half the reason we get bad reps.. Not to give my exact location for anyone following my posts lol, but we own along a 2 dif housing tracts and into the village some(this is actually the best funnel/pinch point a hunter could dream of).. but thats where the bulk of the dickheads come from and cross the posted signs to hunt and really ruin the best set up ever. it straight up sucks! i used to see 20-40 deer a sit in this area. it was perfect. Speaking of this we just found another stand last week, 40 yards in front of one of ours... cant take it much more...
  19. If I harvest one this year lol I'll take a pic. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  20. This is one of the reasons I don't hunt my 8F family property. You can't keep trespassers out. There's new stands put up every year from different people. It never ends. And according to all the locals, that's what they say.. I used to think that, that was the best hunting around.. blah blah blah. Would still be good if they kept there sleezy asses out of there. Plus it borders/and goes into village property where hunting is illegal. So the deer are plentiful. Sucks the lack of decency from others can change your attitudes and efforts on a personal private property Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  21. He was given a warning, that being his last warning. We haven't had the best of luck with DEC on certain issues across our hill,(poachers and much other illegal activities) that being the main reason the call was not made..
  22. the deer in 8F ive harvested might have a few and thats all..
  23. I wonder what the difference is, ive been lucky to only have a few ticks crawl on me that i was aware of, and yet to have to pull one from my skin. The dog a time or two but.. No joke every deer ive taken down there has been literally covered in ticks.. I had them crawling around my car when i brought the cape and antlers to the taxi last fall..
  24. All the deer from my place in 8P, for years now have been absolutely loaded with ticks, i mean totally covered in ticks.. nearly every deer, even of the B&C class ticks too like you stated lol.
