Last year snow fell in Nov and didn't leave til March.. didn't happen this year.

I'm sure there are a lot of people in that area.. including the woman who watched the fire dept sit there while the house burned... that think it was wrong.. I notice that none of the neighbors got together and handed the fire dept $75 to help the people out... If it concerned me that much I would have paid the fee right then and there to the fire dept for them just to save their house.

I'll be damned if I handed you some venison to eat if you could tell me if it came from a buck or a doe... and I still don't get why some of you think that the horns are for eating... it's more like getting a prize in your cereal!! Yes.. God bless America for allowing me the freedom to take a buck with inedible antlers then eat the meat that carried those antlers around.

I think the push to reduce deer populations is more about diminishing habitat than it is about amount of deer... sometimes what the DEC fails to consider is that populations aren'tt the same not just in the WMU's but within different areas of the WMU's... It is a daunting task trying to create harvest regulations with the abundance of different type habitat within even the smallest of WMU's... not sure what the answer is.... for every agricultural hunting area in any WMU there is just as many suburban hunting areas that hold deer as well.. yet all come under the same harvest regulations. Just here in 7f we have all kinds of habitat and deer populations depending on how far down the road you travel.

So your area was over populated with deer back because you didn't shoot does... love to see the deer/ car accident numbers then... also like to see how many more homes are in the area compared to 1972... you're comparing apples to oranges... nothing is the same as it was 40 years ago... 50 deer in one funnel between 2 pastures sounds like way to many deer for that habitat.. they all must have been 50 lbs from lack of food

I think the "funding of the fire department" is code for paying peoples pay checks and retirement funds
-
"There's no way to go to every fire and be able to keep up the manpower, the equipment, and just the funding for the fire department," said South Fulton Mayor David Crocker. But it was cost effective to send the fire department there to watch the place burn? Funny how the volunteer fire departments seem to be able to get manpower, equipment and get to every fire... must be a union thing..lol

If I killed a buck like that legally and didn't have anything else to hide... I wouldn't care who said what about anything.. or anyone elses opinions.. I'd be happy to tell the story for everyone to enjoy.. as well as make sure hunters got a chance to see the beautiful whitetail... I'm thinking that he thought he was going to get famous by killing this buck... I think he must have been surprised that he turned out to be infamous... when will some guys finally realize that it is about the deer not about the hunter... nobody really cares who killed it... just what it was that was killed.

that would be great... that buck definitly should be scored and entered in the record books... thats a buck that everyone should be able to see. great that he has a trail cam pic of it alive
-
Sam do you have any bigger pics.. that is unbelievable... what a buck!!
-
Then it wasn't so terrible now was it??..lol

I think I would join my buddies for day in one of these condos just to spend some time with friends.. I wouldn't bring a weapon and would never plan on kiling anything out of it myself... I would leave that to any friend that thought he would get a rise out of doing so... I wouldn't help him gut or drag though.. I wouldn't want to change out of my slippers and put on my boots... well, ok maybe if the movie was over that I was watching..

I'm thinking a baiting report might be probable cause... as a courtesy I'm sure they would contact the homeowner first before searching his property if time permitted.

I don't see how someone couldn't have just a little problem with this particular kill knowing the history of the buck and some of the circumstance surrounding the kill... I think we are all clear that the DEC has considered it a legal buck... I don't think it is unreasonable to question this guys motives... actually I would be curious to hear the story that the guy has told about his accomplishment... that alone might be enough to make some of us throw up... you do have to give him credit however for his masterful plan to do it in a way that was deemed legal by the DEC... now I'd like to hear his story about how satisfied he was about his accomplishment... the buck is by far a true majestic trophy whitetail... the man however I will continue to question as being true hunter.. just my opinion.

LOL.. comparing the 60's and 70's deer populations with today... there was a ton more deer habitat back then to support way more deer... do you realize how many developments have eaten up acres and acres of once heavily populated deer woods that was huntable... deer have far more urban and suburban safe havens than were available 40-50 years ago... there is far more posted or unhuntable land today... things are different and there can be little or no comparison... today is today... hunting is different..habitat is different... and hunters are different... any short comings in hunting has to do with all of us hunters and how we have changed the face of hunting over the years...

This is definitely my favorite thread ever!!... what a great read...
-
Obviously you don't know the whole story around this particular buck... strange too... with your usually posts about hunter misbehavior that you wouldn't notice that there are questions concerning this buck... one little bleep???.. there were enough sirens going off that your nemesis the DEC thought it necessary to get involved... but it wasn't anywhere near your property this time.. so I can see how it wouldn't raise any concern in your mind.. I mean.. what is trampling through a cemetary to kill a local celebrity tame buck compared to someone spotlighting deer on your land... what were we thinking.
-
congrats Mike... I just love that last trail cam pic... you don't get pics like that very often..!!

Hey .. they can hunt nekkid in the heated hut!!
-
I am of the same opinion.. but I guess that there are some that just think this is the way to hunt.. to each his own I guess..What next... a computerized firearm that detects the deer for you and fires automatically without having to handle the weapon? I guess then you won't have to miss your favorite TV show or get out of your slippers to hunt.. I'm thinking it might increase hunter numbers..lol Things just keeps getting crazier and crazier
-
I did some treasure hunting with my metal detector.. does that count??
-
For all the so called bad weather.. there were still many bucks taken.. big and small.. some fellas and gals were just luckier than others... for some the bad hunting weather just seemed to fall on the days they could hunt.. happens all the time.
-
Can't be sued for opinions period... we can question his ethics all day long and there is nothing he can do about it... now if we start saying he did something he didn't do.. that might be a different story... just because it was a legal hunt doesn't make it fair chase... the guy had to know that this would bring on this kind of reaction from the hunting community... and questioning it is fair I think... the DEC was concerned enough to do an investigation and bring it under question.. when was the last time anyone here was investigated for the deer they took??

rumor is that it scored in the 190's as a non-typical.. I'm not really seeing that... but maybe those are some big drops... will probably score higher if it comes in as option B.. we'll have to see. Great buck no matter what!
