  1. Amen... thats how more should handle those types of situations... it gives the fella some time to mull over what you said because he can't just open his mouth and dismiss it right away.. or tune you out and sometime you just can't get the words out correctly when it happens because you are a bit ticked that he'd put you in the position of even having to confront him about it. If he is any kind of friend he'll get it and change his ways.. if not he really isn't much of a friend.
  2. Looks to me like a 7-point main frame with 5 abnormal pts.. 4 of which are drops.. the drooping from drops look like they are acually coming of the bottom of the beam and aren't the main beam... closer inspection might prove different... it will probably have to be panel scored to get a concensus... when the time comes.. its a close call without it right in front of me
  3. Its a legit buck.. I recieved the pic on Nov.22 .. it was taken in the truxton area near Larador ski resort.. still working on getting the story.. should know more soon.
  4. Sometimes we just don't seem to see deer because of bad luck..lol
  5. True, that is mother natures way of ensuring the continues existance of the whitetail... and not most.. but some does have 2 and 3 fawns depending on certain things conditions like population, food source and so on.. there is a direct corrilation between habitat health and number of fawns born... only over harvesting of does would reduce buck numbers to a measurable level... anyone who advocates not having any doe harvest at all knows little or nothing about overall habitat and whitetail managing.
  6. I think we all agree that there could be a time when throat cutting could be necessary... some of just don't think it is better than another bullet.
  7. Sorry but it doesn't work like that... the real reason that there are not as many bucks is because of the amount of bucks killed.. ony 51% of all fawns born, on average, are bucks.. so killing a doe doesn't necessarily mean that you are one buck less the next year (there is a 50/50 chance that the doe has 1 fawn and it is another doe).. killing a buck ensures one less buck the following year... the only thing that not killing does ensures is an over population of does.
  8. even a good hunter will have trouble patterning deer movement during the so called "super survival mode"...unless of course there is snow.. which helps... hunters moving deer is sometimes the only way deer will move during the daylight.
  9. Deer have different travel corridors during different parts of the season based on food source, rut activity and pressure.. after the rut deer tend to conserve energy for the winter and move only when absolutely necessary...sounds like your 29 acres is a great corridor during the pre-rut and rut time but is not used much by the deer after that... very common on small pieces of property... making stand hunting very difficult.
  10. he might go 190... I'd buy that!
  11. I know I shoot 30-06 shells too but I don't treasure them... I just hang antler up to reflect on the life of the animal I just took the life from...
  12. I only said there is nothing to be learned by cutting a deers throat which is th topic of the thread... othrs brought in the subject of reflecting on the death of the deer... and the oncology talk was referring to learning something about death and where I learned about death..and is relevant to what we were taking about... I am reading exactly what is being said and nothing more... you must have come in late when all the kiddies jumped into the pool...
  13. I do not treasure antlers at all.. not sure where you get that from anything I ever posted.. and I never said death doesn't cross my mind while hunting.. I said I don't need to cut a deers throat to gain some better knowledge of death that I haven't already learned.. or to have reverence for any of God's creatures... you were the one that said that everyone should experience killing a deer by their own hand to gain a better understanding of the life they have just taken... I'm paraphrasing of course. I just don't think that is necessary..
  14. That is a beauty buck Dave.. should see a tag on him if from NY I would think.. and I usually hear pretty quickly about any trophies like that one..
  15. I agree.. it's close, but I'm thinking he just falls short.. maybe if the g-4s were a tad longer he might make 150... but man that is a great buck.
  16. not an attack at all.. I was just responding to the meat hunter part.. I actually agree with what you said..
  17. I'm working on getting the story... this guy is a marine and by the looks of things he can SHOOT!!
