Oh yeah.. that's what I'm talkin' bout!!
-
Good for you.. very good buck
-
I'm wondering why the buck was at the butchers... you can't eat those horns... so no need to get the deer butchered..
-
I would personally only do it if I absolutely had to... fortunately I have never had to.
-
I also have a group that I get together with and drive deer on occasion... they are close friends and we have some good hunts in the adirondacks...driving deer is certainly my least favorite way to hunt deer, but it is a great way for me to share time in the woods on occasion with some great friends. we have some safety rules for hunting that way and all the guys abide by them.. one being that we always where blaze orange.

Taking the legal deer you want to take is your choice... what I don't understand is that lots of you find the need to justify the deer that you take.. especially when it comes to smaller bucks.. don't apologize for taking a legal deer... and stop saying that you'd like it to be different when you know thats not true.... killing smaller bucks because your neighbor is only gonna kill'em if you don't is probably the most common justification for doing something you claim you didn't want to do... there is nothing wrong with killing a legal buck and no reason to have to justify it to anyone. If you are feeling the need to justify it, maybe thats not the buck you should be taking... or maybe you should just forget the apologizing and tell it like it is.. "I killed the buck I wanted to kill".... that is nothing to be ashamed of...

For some it's better than nothing at all.. I would settle for nothing rather than settle for a deer I don't want. I would prefer filling my dmps and eat my buck tag rather than shoot any buck just because my neighbors are killing everything. Do you ever stop and think that they are saying the same thing about you because you are doing about the same thing as them. Neither of you are using restraint, yet they can't help themselves.. you are making your choice based on them.

There is no such thing as a huge button buck..lol.. just sayin'
-
yup.. that's a 9-pointer alright
-
The second best part!!
-
What really makes this bad and I don't think anyone mentioned it.. is that dad already filled a dmp that he had... he did not need to kill another doe... especially when he didn't have a tag!! All the rest just snowballed from there... there is only one person at fault here and it doesn't seem to bother him at all.

That is the deer of a lifetime for anyone... and certainly one of NY's biggest this year...trophy class whitetail all the way.. congrats to your uncle and thanks for sharing the pics!!
-
I agree.. family members sometimes need to know just how much of a pain in the ass thery're being... I would have told him that he should have thought first before taking a deer that he had no business taking... I would not have made the drive and I would have slept like a baby afterwards... if he gets upset.. so be it... better than me being upset... he's family.. he was wrong and he should understand... you should never apologize for not doing anything wrong!!

I didn't realize we were going to the 1/8" here.. my older eye have trouble with 1/8's just looking at a pic...lol Congrats Larry!!

I have killed a few deer with a cigar in my mouth... trying this year not to smoke while hunting.. haven't seen much of a difference.
-
I'm all for taking a refresher hunter safety course... but seriously.. you all really think that a hunting license is too expensive??? name one other form of entertainment that you love that costs money... that you can do for months.. that is cheaper... I bet some of you spend more in a day just on beer and cigarettes. The super sportmans license is $100.. I can hunt deer, small game, turkeys, and fish all year long for less than 10 bucks a month.. thats less than 40 cents a day... if you saved just a dollar a day all year you could buy a super sportmans licenses for the next three years... and those that buy just a deer hunting license can do it even cheaper.

I take any shot a deer gives me

So, the neighbor shot across the property line.

Now there is a story worth listening too... one of the adjoining properties to ours was owned by an elderly gentleman who posted his 300 acres.. one day while walking down the right of way to get to the back corner of our property I happened upon the gentleman stacking wood in a small shed on his land so I offered him a hand for an hour of my hunting time and have since had sole permission to hunt his property... I had heard what a hard guy he was that kept everyone off his land... we have been friends ever since.. he recently sold his estate to his kids who still let me hunt there free of charge...giving me 1000 acres to hunt instead of 700... the trespassers i have caught on our property do not own land next to our property they simply trespass trying to take advantage... we have no problems with adjacent land owners or the people they let hunt their land. -

I would make it clear to the guy that if I ever caught him red handed I would call the DEC right then and there and let them sort it out... I make it a point not to patrol our hunting property.. because it just ruins a good hunting day.. but I also make it a point to confront any trespassers... usually I am very nice the first time and give them a warning and explain my rules so they clearly understand... leaving them with... That will be your only "nice guy" warning... anything from there on out they won't enjoy.. it seems to work. They usually end up telling me old hunting stories from the area..lol -
Probably of the same bloodline... antler configuration is genetic...

I hunted all weekend last weekend up north and didn't see a deer and had a great time doing it. having gone through battling leukemia with my youngest son... I have come to realize that the little things matter so little and at the same time matter so much... we have much to be thankful for and little that we should let get us down. God has left a silver lining around everything if we just look hard enough for it..

Very true... nobody climbs a mountain just to go half way... that may be where they end up... but the goal is always the top!

The chimney is always the best way.. that lighter fluid is nasty!!
