Very good advice "G"... deer are very unpredictable.. especially good bucks.... and especially during mating season... don't worry so much about doing anything right or wrong.. test the waters... anything can and usual does happen... but doing nothing is what you don't want to do...have fun ... experiment and learn a little bit about the deer in your area... don't be afraid to grunt and bleat... agressive or subtle... bucks react differently in different situations... so have fun with it... thats what it's suppose to be...

That doesn't mean there were none killed in Putnam, it could be that they just didn't enter any. hard to believe it.. but some guys don't know the NYS Big Buck Club exists even though they have been around for 39 years -

Shocky and Barta are both class acts... One of my favorite Shocky videos.. is the one about the closest shot.. where he and his camera guy have a contest to see who can get the closest shot on some huge bucks... in one scene the camera guy is buried in snow for 4 hours in a prone position most of the time with deer all around him... he finally kills a huge buck I believe at about 8 yards... the kicker was that he had a clear shot in open territory for a long time before that, but waited until the buck got as close as he dared let it...

I do have a personal list... deer are classified by County though.. so not sure if we can get specific areas. -
Sorry Geno.. that wasn't meant as an attack just a clarification...

I did do it for a living for a while and let me tell you it's all about money... anything to get the sponsor... I sold out many a time for product I really didn't even care for just to get the dollars so I could continue to produce the show. Makes me kinda sick when I look back at it... I never did canned hunts or compromised on good show content... but as you see I no longer do a show either... hard to film 26 weeks of shows without money... but it increasingly became harder to prostitute myself just to create a hunting show. The truth is you probably won't have a show for long if you aren't selling out to your sponsors.

I feel the same way.. let them come to the "Dacks" and see what kind of hunters they really are...some of the local guys here in NY have way better hunting footage that is real stuff...

Yeah the 10 might just make 115.... nice bucks.. good body size on them too

Now who's running?... little different when the shoe is on the other foot ? But in the spirit of good sportsmanship I'll end this as well...

Ok then I guess to finish off the discussion... I'll quote you.."That doesn't mean that I am going to run right out and start creating a food plot. In my mind, I still separate out that activity as something far removed from the actual act of hunting".. so I have to suppose that using your logic you must mean that you think that anyone creating a food plot must not be hunting seeing how food plots are far removed from hunting.. therefore food plotters must not be hunters in your mind... sounds kinda ridiculous huh?? Now lets see how fast you can run.

You mean like shooting a buck just a little before legal shooting time??
-
Like I said before .. I can't make you understand what you refuse to understand.. carry on with your nonsense it seems to amuse you.

And when he has no response he uses the "you're running from the question" post... you'll see that one quite a bit as well from him.. and for the record .. any exact words you may have use on the other thread was not the entire exact qoute... only the part you cherry picked to create your point

Personally I think a good hunter is a guy that enjoys his hunting.. hunting is suppose to be fun... not putting a lot of pressure on yourself to kill something at all costs makes hunting more enjoyable...now don't get me wrong.. I get just as excited as the next guy when I harvest a nice buck... but it is way more about the hunt for me... For years I did the treestand thing and made the same comments as many others on here... no deer movement today, didn't see any bucks today, nothing came close to me... frankly, I just plain got bored waiting around for a deer to come by... so I made a decision to stop waiting and start actively looking for bucks... since then I can honestly say that I have never had a day of hunting without seeing at least one buck... most are small bucks... but bucks none the less... I have had days where I have seen as many as a dozen... sometimes seeing the same buck more than once... in the last 15 years or so I have harvested 10 bucks that most guys would put on their wall.. not because I am a great hunter, but because I decided to change something that wasn't fun for me and do something different that made hunting exciting...some of my best hunts were ones that I didn't harvest a buck, days when I was on a buck that I knew I would shoot even before I ever got a look at him... just the knowledge I have gained about how bucks travel, when they stop to feed, when they travel without so much as a break in their stride, and how they react in different situations is way more exciting to me than just killing a buck that happens by me by accident. Killing a buck for me now is far less important than the story behind how I killed him.

I thought you were smart enough to notice sarcasm.. that was directed towards a fella that comes in and again miss quotes what I said and like you passes it off was not..as an exact quote.. which it is not.
-
you forgot the rest of the quote.. which was directed towards a question asked of me about baiting...not hunting from a stand
-
And a good point it is..

Doc is very adept at rewriting quotes...

Practicing long shots is fun.. I did a trad shoot once where every shot was over 50 yards.. I had more fun... I also lost a ton of arrows as well..lol
