  1. Look back at my first post.. I said true typical 6x6 and 7x7...they are extremely rare... how we got off so far is beyond me.. all I said was that beyond 10 points it becomes extremely hard to count point in a hunting situation.. and if you can count 12 or 14 points you are probably close enough to kill the deer... implying that if a guy is seeing those kinds of bucks each year .. he should have a wall full of them unless he is a horrible shot..
  2. Scent-Lok definitely works... I have film footage that I did with the Scent-lok people when they first began to prove it.. my post was not a slam on Scent-lok.. it was about how I have gone from being a gadget guy to simplifying my hunting technique... I refuse to go through the long ritual that I use to years ago... I like it simple now.. truthfully I started killing way more nice bucks when I stopped putting so much pressure on myself to have all the best gadgets and such... now I just relax and hunt and let things just happen... it works for me...
  3. For those who missed it.. this is how all this started... an answer to a question about if I thought baiting was wrong.. not stand hunting.. I'm not seeing where I said my way is better.. not seeing where I said stand hunters are not hunters at all...
  4. How do you get that we think we're higher than anyone else because we choose not to wait in a treestand for our deer... where in here has anyone said that their hunting was better than anyone elses... some of you guys are like little kids... all that was said is that a few of us don't like waiting in a treestand for our deer to wander along... it doesn't feel like hunting to us... no one told anyone to stop sitting in treestands.. nobody said that you must hunt like us... all that stuff you fellas have concocted on your own
  5. The texas heart shot part was fine.. it put the pig down immediately.. the part with the dog and not finishing the pig off is the disgusting part... the hunters irresponsibility after the initial shot.. which was a good one... is what is inexcusible. You missed your mark if this was an attempt to discredit the Texas Heart Shot... the clip would have been just as discusting had that been a lung shot.
  6. I have hunted with every model scent-lok suit since their beginning in the 90's.. I have since stop wearing them... not because they aren't great.. I think they are exceptional for scent control.. I just have gotten tired of spending so much time and money on scent control over the years
  7. If hunting bigger bucks is trophy hunting... then I am a trophy hunter!!
  8. The reason most guys don't take the texas heart shot is their fear of ruining meat.. which is a valid concern ... and one I am not concerned about when hunting a big buck.. I wouldn't take a texas heart while meat hunting.
  9. Sorry... I can't make you understand what you refuse to understand..maybe if you quoted me correctly without changing my quote to what you think I said it might help.. I said what I said it was not subtle it was direct and to the point and a quite simple statement... you spin it anyway you want whatever makes you feel good ... if you're offended in some way.. tough s--t
  10. I try to get out a bit every day of the season
  11. Wow.. this is kinda wierd but I totally agree with you Steve!
  12. I use to be the same way with turkey... carried every call they ever made I think...and every decoy.lol... now its just a mouth call and my bow...
  13. Clifford I hunt that same area... We have a camp in Emmonsburg... and hunt the Edick Rd just out of Stratford.
  14. I think I see a road trip in my future! thanks for the link Doc
  15. If you've had the buck on cam I guess you might know how many points he has and be able to pick out characteristics that you could recognize again... I was speaking more about the guys that say they see them while hunting each year... there is usually not enough time to count points in a hunting situation.. only time to determine big buck or little...main frame 8's and 10's aren't really hard to tell.. its the typical 12's and 14's that I was taking about.. given there are very few that even exist.. especially in NY
  16. Anchor point is important when shooting instinctive also... I shoot fingers with a leather glove and touch my first finger to the corner of my mouth. Shooting instinctively is like shooting foul shots in basketball... get a routine and do the exact same thing every time
  17. Not only do they have one... it's also pretty nice...small, but very nice. And tucked away in a very appropriate backwood country setting.
  18. That was just a handful.. there were 90 heads there I believe... 307 total big bucks entries in 2010.. 5 boone & Crocketts... 12 new County #1's
  19. When fellas get into the 12, 14 point thing I try to remind them... that there are very few typical 6x6 or 7x7 .. 12 and 14 pointers... most points above 10 are abnormal in nature or stickers... that would mean that during a hunting situation the buck would have to be standing at close range to be able to count the extra points let alone count points at all.. if th deer was close enough to count points.. he'd be close enough to kill... so that would tell ya the guy is full of ---- right away.
  20. It may not be everyones cup of tea for whatever reason...but I'm still taking the going away butt shot anytime I get the opportunity... I've yet to have a buck escape after being shot up the a$$ with a slug or rifle bullet... one good well placed shot in the texas bull is as ethical as rattling off five shots broadside one after another... like I have witnessed numerous times from self proclaimed ethical hunters... now when I'm meat hunting for doe with the muzzleloader.. thats different...But I do practice enough with my muzzleloader that a head shot on a doe is never out of the question.
  21. Glad everyone had a great time yesterday at the banquet... Pete it was nice meeting you... I've been Emceeing the dinner for 11 years now and I enjoy meeting the people and giving out the awards... sometimes its hard with the length of the program to keep things interesting, but we do our best to entertain as well as just hand out certificates.
  22. I hope size doesn't matter.. mine's only 16x20
  23. This is scary but I totally agree with you Doc...
