I can see where fewer hunters could be killing more deer... there are quite a bit more tags available than there ever was when i was growing up.. but, that said.. with the dismal number of reports each year... I also find it hard to see how statistics could possibly help to get accurate numbers... usually good statistics are based on solid numbers and probabilities... neither of which th DEC has...

Did you miss me?? I really would like you (Burmjohn) to go back and look at the original thread were this all started... where the question about shooting a buck before legal time was posed... there you will see who started the whole name calling and who was doing the provoking and who got all heated up... I am well aware that some guys don't like my opinions... and they like even more that I have a valid argument to back them whether you agree or not ... the name calling usually starts shortly after that because they don't have a good argument to rebut my opinion or even others who might have my same opinion... if you read that thread front to back you will see exactly what I mean and who I am talking about... I am tired of having to defend myself as one of the so called instigators because I responded to untrue statements about me or about what I have said.. It is impossible to keep a civil thread when some refuse to just respond with there opinion and a good argument to defend it... I can't help it if someone starts feeling guilty about the opinion they gave and starts attacking because they are too embarrassed about not being able to defend their opinion with a good argument... and when they attack by saying I said something I didn't then I will correct them... and will continue to correct them until they get it right...if that gets me booted.. then so be it... To date... I am still waiting to for someone to show me where I instigated any argument... or STARTED any name calling... other than the D-bag comment to Rocket which I have already apologized for because it was out of line..

Just because I have an opinion on AR doesn't mean I can't appreciate the excitement that a young man has after taking his first buck or any buck for that matter... I had the same excitement at that age... and I'm not for imposing my standards on anyone just for the sake of being right... But... IMO.. conservation law shouldn't be made just to satisfy hunters wants (including mine)... if the conservation department decided that AR's would be good for the buck age structure... then thats what should happen ... if in fact the conservation laws that are currently in place are for the betterment of the whitetail in NY and age structure is deemed necessary for that betterment.. then I see nothing wrong with imposing AR's on NY hunters... if the opposite is true and it is not deemed necessary then there is no need for an AR... this isn't being an elitist... because its not about what me or what any other hunter thinks based on his or her wants.. it's about doing the right thing for deer management if its needed... if in fact it isn't needed then I agree with allowing hunters to take what they please...

huge overhead.. the only truly accurate way to age a whitetail is bisection of a tooth.. the cost to do 200,000 deer each year would be astronomical.. even if they just did the bucks it would be a huge expense.

The only way there won't be any negative replies is if nobody posts... i agree that the name calling is BS.. but nothing wrong with a little heated debate...

I'm not so sure that the majority will vote down crossbows, but a questionaire would be a good idea and fair.

I agree and I have much higher standards for myself as well.. my contention would be that if NY wanted to establish a good representative age class structure for bucks here in NY.. which we currently do not have... then AR's would be a good management policy to accomplish that goal.. regardless of what hunters want.. once that age structure was established... i think many if not most hunters would begin to see the benefit of having a stong age stucture and would pass on younger bucks knowing that they would have ample opportunity for a more mature buck... I also agree that allowing hunters to take what they want is also good policy if it doesn't disrupt good deer management.

Who gets to decide what a true bowhunter is...? I am a bowhunter and I don't have the same opinion as you and Arrow... do other bowhunters with my opinion get to decide as well as?

All that is true and would be fine... unless the AR is designed to increase the age structure of bucks... which IMO is a sound management policy...

I'm all for crossbows... I would prefer a separate season.. simply because I wouldn't hunt with one during the Bowseason.. I like my recurve too much... But, I'd love to hunt with a crossbow if it had it's own season.. so I guess I'm riding the train, just in the caboose.
