  1. My point was that if they didn't hunt.. almost none of the people planting food plots would have even considered the plantings... the plots may now be helping the "critters" and deer... but that isn't really the reason they were really planted.. they were planted for hunting and because of hunting... honestly.. did most hunters even know what brassica was 20 years ago?.. absolutely not.. I do think that planting winter browse is a much better
  2. Yeah.. I see guys grouping up and driving more deer at the end of the season here in Central NY.. especially the last weekend. But that's just here...
  3. I would guess that the deer take would be highest in the beginning of the season (obvious) then tail off in the middle and rise again at the very end... I think there is a sense of urgency by hunters to make that last push to fill the freezer at the end of the season.. especially to fill doe tags.. just a guess though
  4. The better question on this topic might be... would you have planted that food plot if you didn't hunt deer?.. and if the answer is NO.. (which I believe would be in most cases).. then it is a hunting plot... I always thought it funny that the fellas that turn their noses at QDM ( or at least the AR part of QDM)... seem to have adopted the food plot portion of the program just fine...
  5. You need to remember that posts here are opinions that people have... nobody can impose their thought on you unless you let them... nobody is jamming thoughts into your head and erasing yours...
  6. maybe his buddies...the yellow marshmellow chicks.. will take up the slack
  7. Nice buck.. but definitely way short of 162.. my 155 buck.. grossed 169
  8. Lots of guys that plant bigger plots do it to keep deer on thir property as well.. so i would consider those hunting plots... I think Steves post said it best also
  9. good question... I don't see any benefit to a shorter NZ season

    Why?

That bow brings back some memories
  11. The sad part is these are adults.. not kids..
  12. not exactly what I meant.. but ok
  13. Not to be agrumentative but killing big bucks doesn't make him a great hunter... where, when and how he kills those big bucks might though... There are numerous guys that have walls full of trophies from South Texas and other controlled hunting situations.. I might call them good shooters... but not necessarily good hunters... IMO the story of how and where is more important than how many..
  14. The right thing to do.. is always the right thing to do...
  15. Remember the antlers were also used for tools and adornments for head dresses and such.. so I'm sure big antlered bucks were of interest to the indians as well...
  16. I have met tons of hunters that didn't even know that a scoring system existed.... I'm sure that was more true years and years ago
  17. Saw some turkeys on the way in as well.. couple of nice Tom's..just puchased the camp last July so this will be my first year turkey hunting there...so seeing turkeys close to camp was encouraging.
  18. I think the whole thing is interesting... and a shame that it isn't recorded if it truly is real.
  19. More interesting reads about Rampola if anyone is up to it.. http://www.indianasportsman.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1828
  20. What you may not know is that Rampola was a B&C and P&Y measurer and trained the guys that scored his rack... here are two interesting articles about the rampola and the buck... he was also offered $20,000 to have the skull xrayed and take a polygraph test...not sure what these articles prove or disprove but interesting reads none the less http://whitetail.com/rompolagate.html http://whitetail.com/rompolagate2.html
  21. you need to read a bit more about Rampola then "G"... he was never bashful about publicity... like I said .. he was no stanger to killing record book bucks... and it may very well be real for all anyone really knows except Rampola and the guys that supposably scored the buck... I just highly doubt it based on what I know from the B&C community and the series of events that took place after it was reported.
  22. Yeah I always catch my limit of ice right away too... getting it home before it melts is my problem
  23. That link doesn't go to the video though... just to a stock Youtube page.. at least for me it didn't go to the video
