  1. G-man how do they keep food plots from falling under that definition? Is it considered a farm crop?
  2. Exactly right Four! It would have been simple if it was all on the level
  3. we could get into it for you Paulie, but your ears would bleed..
  4. Must be contagious.. I went to camp today as well... had to hike in cause of the snow , but all was well at camp.. just like I left her.
  5. Was that the cue for you to show the video Pat?..lol Glad I could be of help..
  6. The buck pic definitely wasn't photoshopped..the horns look like they were put on the head... and a deer with pedicles in such an abnormal position probably would'nt have grown a rack as typical as that... it wouldn't have been so hard at all to fake.. in fact my taxidermist friend and I played a trick on a friend of our back in the early 1990's where we placed a set of antler into the skull of a doe and sewed back up the hide and fool a ton of our friends telling them we killed a huge antlered doe... and these friends got to see the deer close up actually able to handle it... and hudini's we are not... the kicker is that rampola got very upset when he was told that the buck needed to be panel scored... he has had other bucks put in the record books and that shouldn't have been a big deal for him... it has always been B&C policy... I think it was because he knew that the buck would make it passed such scrutiny
  7. You are so far off base on this ...I do hunt to feed our family...in fact I taught our kids to do the same....We are a one income family ...#one reason....it was costing us too much for me to work out side the home than what I was making...He pays the bills I feed us....I have a 180 x80 foot garden...maintain fruit and nut trees... berries and I start all my own plants....maintain the property and butcher all I kill...He has a inherited serious problem with cholesterol and deer meat is the only red meat he eats....I raised two kids in 4-H and they were on all kinds of sports....so yes there are ppl out there that hunt to feed the family...and we are surrounded by home schooling.... fairly self sufficient ppl ...that do the same That doesn't mean that I'm not picky about what I shoot...2 doe last year...but the size that I choose is not in the rack...but in the bulk...because I learned a long time ago....It takes as many steps and is as big a pain to butcher a small deer as it is a big deer....big deer cut down on the # of times I have to do it.. When I made that statement it was in reference to Rocket saying that the whole killing big bucks was BS and that he hunted to feed his family not to because he cared about shooting a big buck..(yet he video taped his last buck kill and seemed quite excited that it was the "high eight")... but I still stand by my statement that you don't hunt tho feed your family.. you may feed them what you hunt... but you don't hunt to feed them..i also feed my family with what I hunt... but i don't need to hunt to feed the family.. the meat hunting thing is just a lame excuse for why hunters don't pass up younger bucks... the better excuse would be that most hunters just can't help but shoot the first buck they see so they don't have to tell their buddies that they didn't get a buck that year.. at least thats honest
  8. Holy Crap.. unbelievable..!! See Pat now God is going to punish you...lol
  9. Thanks Culver that will be great... i want AC power for lights and outlets though.. so I'll need the inverter... I would be willing to add an extra battery to handle things if need be.. i just am curious about a 45 watt panel being enough...
  10. if 15 guys enter the woods together.. I guarantee that any decent buck in the area will know they are there before they get where they are going... that is just to much scent and too much noise and movement to escape the senses of most mature buck...
  11. Somehow that doesn't surprise me... what do ya believe in Pat?
  12. BECAUSE..... (everyone say it with me now).....crossbows are not the same as bows. Even a child understands that they are different. Hence the name.. crossBOW ... Other than its limbs, string, and arrows how could one possibly think it was a bow... wow that is odd : ...
  13. Culver.. i have been looking at that same system for my cabin....I want to run a 120v system with inverter and all.. i heard that 45 watts would be enough for just lights and a 12v water pump... for weekend use... what do you think? I was thinking about linking 2 deep cycle batteries for the system.
  14. If there was pedicle damage the antler would not have grown back normally... and you can get a feel for the gap sized based on where the pedicles are in relation to the eyes... ans the fact that the pedicles face out to the side rather than upward of the skull... even the worst cases of hormone imbalances and injuries that cause antler deformity... the pedicle placement remains consistantly normal... I guess it's possible that this buck is one in a zillion.. but I highly doubt it... although I will say the video footage is somewhat convincing.. I believe that buck may have sported those antlers.. I would contend that the spread was altered giving it nearly 25 inches of extra score...
  15. LOL.. I made mention of this in a thread many months ago... making the point that these individuals were actually looking for deer... imagine if they were just sitting in a stand waiting for deer to come by?
  16. That's fine. But they are still The Rules of Fair Chase. Seemingly the rules of "fair chase" were amended when compound bows were first introduced as well as in line muzzleloaders. Actually the rules weren't amended I believe until 1988 ..... nearly 25 years after the introduction of the compound bow... that is when P&Y first defined a hunting bow... they allowed compounds in without much resistance before then... well.. there was resistance from trad bow hunters.. but none from P&Y... not nearly the scrutiny they have given crossbows
  17. I agree having scored quite a few trophies in my day.... then add that with his reluctance to allow it to be viewed and there is a case for it being a fake... it would be exceptional if it were NOT fake.
  18. your best bet is to contact some local taxidermists and ask if they might let you observe them doing some work.. I just helped a taxidermist friend of mine mount a buck that I took a few years ago... It is actually quite easy if you have the right person to teach you... I was surprised how simple it was... the hard part is getting good at it.. knowing how to set the eyes... tucking the lips... placing the ears.. and sewing up the hide... definitely a "practice makes perfect" kind of hobby... good luck
  19. Very true "G"... the quality of bucks will get much better the deeper in you go.. especially in vast areas... the deer are fewer and farther between in the deep woods... for us trackers.. the only place is the deep woods for the type of bucks that we are hunting... but if one is a sitter and is looking for quantity... closer to civilization is likely the better spot... there are place that I and others hunt in the deep woods that have been very successful for tracking.. but you could SIT there the rest of your life.. and never see a deer... bowhunting from a treestand would not be highly recommended for these areas..
  20. Yeah.. that is definitely fishy... seems pretty obvious whats going on there.. sad
  21. As long as hunters continue to think of deer hunting as a competition... then we'll continue to have the cheaters.. the only competition should be between hunter and the game they pursue.
  22. nyantler

    Jiggin' Lakers

Now that is a day of fishing Pygmy... 20 lakers?? NICE
  23. Nice mount Trophy... nice buck too
  24. I think nothing in a lot of hunters eyes... some deer are just as cunning and evasive no matter what weapon you're using
