The saddest part is these are probably fellow hunters... wonder how they would feel if they showed up to find their blind or treestand gone.

What a great question! I've been asking that for years... I'm sure the answer is the same as the reason they haven't created a state wide management plan.. hunter resistance!

NY conservation fund being Raped still by crooked poloticians
nyantler replied to erussell's topic in General Hunting
Its criminal I tell ya... complete misappropriation of yours and my money. All the bastards should be in jail. Then after they mis-spend the money they ask for more so they can do it again. I shouldn't say ask, I should say take... and people keep voting the same idiots into office.. unbelievable! -
Drove up on a truck parked on a village road a few years back, as i came around the bend i heard a boom and saw the puff of smoke come from the passenger side window. I stopped immediately and took down the license #. the truck took off. He killed a doe that lay on the hillside next to the road. I called the state police and the guy and his son were arrested later that day. The father was stupid enough to shoot across his sons lap from the drivers side out the passenger window.. what an idiot. The sons case was dismissed.. but the dad lost his hunting license for 5 years and paid a hefty fine.

hunting 35 years and only lost one bow deer.. i hit a doe in the ham from 20 yards while hunting on the ground. I was hiding in a small brushy spot in the middle of a field and a doe and her 2 young fawns came along the fawns were running wildly throuhg the field and as I drew on the doe and begain to release one of the fawns jumped through the brush i was in andhit my leg causing my arrow to go off course and hit the doe in the rear ham.. she ran off into a cattail swamp and after 4 hours in the dark and 3 hours the next morning we had to call it quits after losing the small blood trail to rain. I think that bothered me more than any big buck i ever missed.

Personally I don't like killing anything just for the sake of killing... at least give it to someone that wants the hide or might like to have a mount done. I don't really understand guys wanting to get rid of coyotes... not their fault that deer are in the food chain. I'm all for hunting them legally... they're a tough hunt... but I kill them for sport not to eliminate them from the area.

And good facts they are..the MS.. AR is kickin' butt. Even though I'm not a fan of point restrictions necessarily.. I guess if you're gonna have them 4 on a side protects the young bucks much better than 3 on a side. The proof is in the putting... or is that puting... whatever

hunting public land in the Adirondacks worth it? Opinions Please?
nyantler replied to TChunter's topic in Deer Hunting
TC I've hunted the paper mill country of Maine and the Adirondacks is similar in its vastness , yet the woods are much more mature than Maine. Both have great bucks. If you are looking for the big boys.. you need to hunt the more remote areas. Which means a lot of walking (usually uphill in all directions..lol). But there is nothing like the thrill of tracking down a nice buck in the ADKs.. very rewarding. And yes it helps if there is snow on when looking for the big bucks. -
I had the same experience last year.. and my butcher, who I trust very much, told me that most puss wounds are very isolated and usually doesn't taint the meat beyond the infected area. If you aren't sure.. call a DEC officer and he will come and look at it and give you another tag if he thinks it isn't consumable.

Pass small buck....see nothing else. Shoot small buck, see lots of bucks.
nyantler replied to JPP's topic in Deer Hunting
I have passed on at least 50 bucks in the last 11 years trying to get a big buck with my recurve... i have seen many big bucks as well but none offered a good 20 yard shot... I'll wait another 11 years if thats what it takes...until I shoot a big buck with my recurve. -
Agreed Doc.. OMG that has to be a first!

hunting public land in the Adirondacks worth it? Opinions Please?
nyantler replied to TChunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Its absolutely worth it.. but its not anything like hunting anywhere else... if you want the big bucks it involves a lot of work and you better be in pretty good shape... If you're going to try and set up a tree stand and wait around for deer.. you'd better bring a good book, because you might be there a while... but YES absolutely worth it if you're up to the task -
Doc read the New York Bowhunters website.. they absolutely relate a crossbow with a gun!
-
I agree WNY .. looks like someone was shooting at that deer running away from them..

So what's so bad about NYS deer management and the hunting season??
nyantler replied to First-light's topic in Deer Hunting
I read that myself.. very interesting study... we have a ton of coyotes on our property.. but I haven't seen any change in the number or quality of the deer in the last 12 years.. maybe cuz we have a lot of good fawning areas on the property and the coyotes can't lock in on just one fawning spot to grab the fawns. I'm not sure.
