2010 Deer Harvest Thread - Post your Pics and Success Stories!

filled one doe tag today with the Hawkin. -
You will know if you see bedding area rubs.. especially with a big buck. A big buck will literally tear up the trees in the area. I have walked into swamps and have seen 15-20 rubs all in a 50ft by 50ft area. The rubs were so pronounced you could see them from a distance. Rub lines are just that, a line of rubs. Kinda cool to see.. rubs one right after another in a straight line.. again even more impressive with a big buck. The rub line can be seen from quite a distance on trees 3-4 inches in diameter. Unless they are cedar trees which can be 8-10 inches in diameter.

Filled one doe tag today.. passed on three til i found this mature doe bedded. I walked up on all 4 does bedded down at seperate times during the morning. Other 3 were quite small. Tracked this one to within 40 yards in the open hardwood, laying on a side hill under an evergreen. Sat and waited for her to stand up before shooting her because all I had was a head shot. (I hate messy head shots) An easy drag downhill about 1000 yards in 16" of snow to my truck.

Its legit, and I hope to have the story soon... met a friend of the guy at the butcher today. The guys at the Big Buck Club have passed around the pic. It hasn't been scored by an official measurer yet... and I'm guessing the score isn't 209 by looking at the rack. the fact that it's a 12 point frame will push it up there, but its not a 200 class buck. But, so far looks to be the biggest typical this year in NY. What a BEAUTY!

The diet probably is the reason that he doesn't have much wear... I don't know what he was eating, but I'd like to plant some off it where I hunt!
-
I didn't want to burst Tom's bubble but i knew it wasn't 2.5 years old right off...I'm guessing it comes back at 4.5 or better. No 2.5 year old can grow that kind of body and rack in 2.5 years. Just not biologically possible. But, Man! What a buck!
-
Sure can, if ya got one for the area!

Here is the picture of the Roosevelt Lucky Sheds found in 1939

I am with you on that! It seems to me that you are going by heresay. You know how stories grow from the truth. It could have started out that they shot 10 deer on that property and through the grapevine now its 80! I would also like to know where this was that that property was so overrun with deer that it was able to have 80 deer taken. That is a ridiculous amount of animals to be held on a single property, not to mention that you claim they shot every last one. I have yet to SEE 80 deer in a season! How about this? If they had to shoot 80 deer that year.. wouldn't it have been much easier to let hunters shoot 80 over the course of a bunch of years before then? Might be smarter than waiting til there is 80 deer to ravage through your crops..duh!

Just saying why wear it at all in the south if you don't need it in the north?.. just don't get the logic. Either there is a reason to be wearing one all the time or there isn't...
-
Is this really something that people lose sleep over?? Although I will say it odd that you don't need to wear it in the north but do in the south. There are places that I hunt where if I cross the road the regulation changes.. makes absolutely no sense
-
Deer normally make rubs along trails that they take on a regular basis.. if you have ever tracked a buck wounded or not wounded you will notice that along the route that he takes there will be rubs.. telling you that when he is moving through the woods he knows exactly where he wants to go.

nice buck sailor -
It is, but the Jordan Buck was until about 10 years ago
-
Not sure if you ever read about the Roosevelt Luckey Buck sheds found the year before the Luckey Buck was killed in 1939. If he was killed the year before he would have beaten the Jordan Buck as largest typical in the world.

The Wheeler Buck Story is up on my site for those interested www.nyantler-outdoors.com This buck had 31 inches of deductions and still scored 150... If not for the badly damaged right antler this might have challenged the Roosevelt Luckey Buck for the all-time typical record for NYS.
