That's always a concern of mine in the warm weather as well

Its there... and he never had it scored... officially that is.

I'm sure baiting would be an affective way of taking deer... and if you're into just taking deer and baiting is legal, I guess it serves the purpose as a conservation tool... for me personally.. it isn't about taking a deer... it's more about how... I'm off the charts of most hunters with respect to how much I handcuff myself with my rules for taking a whitetail... I know to some of my friends it seems crazy, but I prefer taking the hardest route to a harvest, not the easiest. So for me baiting is not an option... but I don't have a problem with it for other hunters if that's what you're into... it just doesn't feel much like hunting to me... and there isn't much of a story to tell afterwards...however..I'm sure the venison will taste just as good.

simple... if you don't like the heat.. stay home... just because the season starts Oct 1st doesn't mean you have to start then... myself, I'd rather be enjoying a warm day in October in the woods hunting than almost anything else... the extra two weeks in early Oct. means more time to hunt... worse case scenario if bugs are bad is bringing my flyrod and switch midday to fishing..lol

Waste of money.. they are junk... Garrett Ace 250 is what you want if you're just starting out... you'll find much more stuff and very easy to learn... and way less expensive... if you want to go a little higher end the Garret AT Pro is nice because it's completely waterproof.

It's actually not floral.. it's an old mill site print.... those are trees and leaves you see around the mill....it looks way cooler in person. But that being said... this is a family camp not my hunting camp... meaning mama has some say in what goes in the camp ( some, not much )... sooooo it's not always possible to avoid an unsightly floral pattern or scented candle. LOL...

Yes bunk... lol ... maybe buck this fall.

Spent the week doing some work at camp.... coming along nicely.. kitchen cabinets... utility cabinet... and a buck

Have a friend that went hunting bear for the first time... was in the woods 10 minutes... made a few fawn bleats with his grunt call... and was surprised to see a bear running directly at him.. he aimed at the bear and fired... the bear fell and skidded towards him on the ground, stopping just 5 yards away... he couldn't find any evidence of where he hit the bear.. but the bear was dead... after getting it home and butchering it he discovered that the bullet had entered the eye and scrambled the bears brains... lucky shot for a guy shooting out of self defense..LOL... Doc I think you got it right about calling something in that is looking to eat whatever made the call!!

I did it just to stop the nominations I was getting... I donate money to who I choose... I would rather give my money to a person or family dealing with ALS than give to any organization... I think its a great idea to increase awareness and they have raised a record amount of money for ALS... just wonder how much actually gets used for the research and how much goes to "admin salaries and fees"...

real or fake... that was cool!! Stupid, but cool!!

Handsome buck for sure...

Any urine... human or otherwise will have an initial smell which dissipates quickly on the ground leaving just the ammonia... this is true for all animals... there have been many tests done with human urine and whitetails... after 10 minutes or so the whitetail can not distinguish human urine from any other animal that has peed in the woods. But if it makes you feel better to pee in a bottle while hunting, then that's what you ought to do.

I would shoot it.. would like a bear rug for camp... beyond that all bears would get a pass.. too much work getting the thing out of the woods!!
-
Agreed...Couldn't have described it any better myself...I've even been still hunting where the deer has actually just materialized walking towards me from out of nowhere... a couple times I have caught one getting up from it's bed to stretch it's legs with no idea that I am there... for me it's an exciting way to hunt.

I have always been a Wolverine guy... I just like how there is no break-in period with them... fit like slippers right out of the box... I do have a pair of 1000 gr Field & Stream rubber boots for those really wet days... anything is better than the old K-Mart pack boots and a plastic bread bag from when I was a kid!!

Never liked sitting and waiting for deer to come to me... rather go to the deer... I do however sit occasionally when the day is just so beautiful that I want to soak some of it in... but never usually more than a half hour or so... the truth is I have very little patience and get bored easily...lol

I look at is as God is putting this once elusive deer in front of me for a reason... his days of stealth and cunning are over and he deserves to be harvested and remembered as one of the hunting stories we will tell for years to come.

Remember we are part of ecosystem... and we have a job to do ... they don't live forever... if he gets too old his death will probably come at the hands of coyotes or starvation... I would think an arrow or bullet might be a more noble way to go.. Just my opinion

Funny how I still haven't gotten to doing grown - up stuff...LOL well... if you ask my wife anyway.

So true how it plagues your mind... I think for those of us that enjoy life to it's fullest... just don't want it to end... seems like there just isn't enough time left to do all I want to do in life... but man I work my butt off trying to cram it all in..lol

I know you mentioned a GPS, but you should never go into the ADK's without a compass... take a reading before going in and make sure you know the reading to come out... never know when the GPS could get broken, have trouble getting a signal... whatever... having a compass is a must.
