  1. yep.. Goldfinches... they travel in big groups sometimes this time of year
  2. Protected nongame birds such as songbirds, hawks, and owls can be legally brought to a taxidermist by game wardens, Federal agents, or holders of appropriate State and Federal permits. Once mounted, these birds can be legally possessed only by public scientific and educational institutions or individuals or facilities that have a valid Special Purpose Possession Dead permit. Personal possession of nongame birds is prohibited. English sparrows, common starlings, and feral pigeons (rock doves) are not native to the United States and are not protected by Federal law. (See 50 CFR 21.11) 4. Doesn't say anything about a grandfather clause.
  3. Congrats.. my brother just got his in Onondaga County... I was surprised it only took 6 weeks.
  4. Not me... I'll have to check them out. The screws have worked so good over the years never saw a reason to change.
  5. I use Azek all the time... very pricey but worth the cost in my opinion... the new trex isn't bad... it doesn't mold up like the old stuff... predrill and us the correct screws for the best results on a deck...
  6. To hunt during archery season you need an archery tag which requires that you take the NYS bow safety class... so in order to hunt with a crossbow during an archery season you would need a bow tag and therefore need to have a bow hunters safety certificate. Unless they're giving out special crossbow tags during the archery season, which I don't believe is the case.
  7. Don't jinx us.. you know if you take it off it will definitely snow!!! LOL
  8. I usually donate a doe or two to the venison donation drive... nice thing is the butcher takes it and processes it... all you do is drop it off... it's tax deductible too.
  9. Been hunting Stratford for 30 years... I hunt the big woods off the Edick Rd... deer are few and far between unless you're willing to put on some miles and get back in the woods a ways.
  10. Only the smartest of bucks die of old age... what a buck!!
  11. Have a friend who's camp is named " Spike Horn Chalet" ... needless to say there are spike horn racks littering the walls of the camp.
  12. Ahhh ... air archery.. I like that.... wait, that's a spear gun. Yeah I'd be ok with that during the archery season too... and muzzleloader season, and gun season.
  13. LOL... either... spear hunting would be pretty exciting I think.. and quite the challenge. I would definitely do it.
  14. I don't think a weapon should be defined by how it fires, but more by how it kills... a crossbow kills the exact same way as any bow. I wonder how bow hunters would feel if there was a movement to allow spears in to archery season. Basically a huge arrow propelled by hand. I'd like to see the argument against that.
  15. For most of us the photo is not really that big a deal. We see or have seen images like that throughout our years of hunting. I'm sure the pic was taken and shown about as a means of showing some of the coyote hunting prowess by the hunter. The fact that it was taken from wherever it was originally posted and shown around other forums is not necessarily the fault of the picture taker. The need for others to pass the picture around to show it's poor taste is probably more the problem. Had it not made it to this forum.. 100's of people would not have had to witness the photo... multiply that by however many times it has been posted to make a point about poor taste and you can see how it is those that are trying to make the point that are actually fueling the fire for those that would take offense to the photo.
  16. Emotions are very powerful indeed when dealing with liberal, tree hugger types... most of their thinking is done with their hearts instead of their heads.. so tugging at there heartstrings is a very good way to get a message across and shut them up.
  17. I have sat in on quite a few new classes and I have to say the fellas doing it today do a great job.
  18. I'm not saying that they don't play a part in controlling population... in fact.. without them NY might be overrun with deer... I'm saying they are not by any means devastating the whitetail in NY like many hunter think... and are currently no threat to overall whitetail populations in NY... coyote numbers would need to be much higher or whitetail populations much lower for coyotes to be having an overwhelming impact on NY whitetails.
  19. You're right I have no knowledge about psycho-babble BS and nonsensical rambling. Kind of like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDocL7AfIRo&feature=player_detailpage
  20. Classic..lol... the 70's were such a different time... how things change.
