I don't enter deer contests... don't like them.

Cool Sam... I get the just not feeling it thing... I might have or might not have taken him just depending on how I felt at that moment.. hard to explain to others, but I get it... with my recurve I'm thinking I'd take a poke at him.. cool video for sure.

Funny you say that.. there were a couple hills that were so steep that I would take 2 steps and he would drag me back 3 because of the slippery leaves... my buddy Paul would actually grab the rack with his crippled hands and help just enough to take the edge off so I could pull him up the hill... the buck would pull me back down the hill a ways a few times and we would stand there laughing and joking how he just wasn't ready to leave the woods and was fighting back. It would have sucked if I didn't have a friend there for comedy relief.

Pic of me dragging out deer... my buddy came out to keep me company while dragging and to take some photos... he couldn't help with the drag because he is disabled... he was hunting about a mile away so I was able to contact him... just having someone there to talk to and share the experience made the drag less grueling

I'm thinking either wooly or pygmy...

Find the high and dry spots in the swamp and you will find the deer

The only problem with getting your answer here for a legal question is that the only way you'll know for sure that what they're telling you is correct is if someone copies & pastes the actual rule or law from the DEC site itself which you could go and get yourself... if you just take the word of someone on a forum you could be getting misinformation.. and lots of times the answers are all over the place... DEC regs you ought best get from the source.

definitely potential there!

Any ADK buck is a good one... took one myself today in 5H... congrats

My southern tier lease is notorious for ticks and I thought this would be a bad year for them bow hunting... haven't seen one yet.. go figure

Yes it was raining like hell... wasn't bad while hunting... sucked for dragging up hill in the wet leaves though... I was going to carry the buck on my back but it was so slippery going uphill I was afraid if I fell the weight of the buck falling on me might injure me... or I might get gored by the antlers... lol... I'm no spring chicken any more as you can see by the grey in my beard

I didn't weigh him... he wasn't that big.. maybe 160-165... I believe he is at least 3 1/2... but he just doesn't have that "old buck" body... a very handsome specimen of an ADK buck just not an ADK slob buck... but I'm very happy.. especially as the smoke pole patch & roundball... it was a great hunt.

Snuck up within 8 yards of this 8-point feeding just of a trail in ADK's Fulton County in the pouring rain... had to wait about a minute before I could get a shot at his shoulder... My biggest muzzleloader buck with patch & round ball... I was dreading the drag out, but it wasn't too bad at 2 hours... I just love the big woods

Clothing: outer and inner
nyantler replied to FrostyLeaves2's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Always fleece for me on the outside... use to be wool, but fleece is just as warm & water proof and much lighter... poly long underwear under and maybe a poly turtle neck if its really cold... that and a good pair of boots is plenty for me with the way I hunt. -
You're right Doc.. the answer is that we all must have a little tolerance when it comes to others approach to our beloved past time... there will always be subtle differences in each hunters minds as to the where, when and especially how of hunting. Hunting will forever mean something different to each individual hunter... so is the human condition.

Even if we as hunters know the laws it still becomes a problem if the enforcers of those laws don't know them... although you may be in the right, it is possible that you still might be ticketed or arrested by an officer that doesn't know the law... meaning that regardless of an outcome in your favor when it's all over... you still will be subject days, months or even years of the inconvenience of fighting the issue. Or worse yet you will have those breaking the law not being dealt with because the officer doesn't know the law... either way the hunter is the one getting the shaft... it is imperative that law enforcement know the new (and old) laws to affectively do their job and serve the people fairly.

Nice.. like the full sneak

Good for her... nice buck

Looks like a young buck to me.... body small.. especially where the neck meets the chest.. just not indicative of a 3.5 yr old

1. I like late November best because the rut is still on and snow is more likely... tracking is the best way to consistently kill ADK bucks. 2. If you get back in a ways you will probably have the woods to yourself 3 You won't find deer as high up once the snow flies and the rutting starts... early season the bucks stay high on the mountains

I've called more bucks in than I can remember with my grunt call... I never go in the woods without one... other than my weapon its my favorite hunting tool.

That is pretty much it in a nut shell...

Passing any deer for any reason except to help out age structure makes no sense... if you would shoot a young buck, then you should have no problem shooting a fawn... or a doe that has a fawn... saving one deer for another for any reason other than to stretch out the age classes serves no purpose... especially if the goal is population control... having said that.. if it bothers you emotionally to shoot a certain deer then you shouldn't shoot... there is no ethical or moral question here... none of your DMP tags say "no fawns" or "does with fawns"... because in the scheme of things it makes no difference in achieving the conservation goal in NY. A doe with a fawn doesn't get a pass here if and when I'm hunting to fill my DMP's.
