My favorite photo trend...
-
Any time animals are bought and sold and sent all over the country there will be the potential for transfering illness and disease ... living and eating in close quarters where they also are standing and laying in each others excrement doesn't happen in the wild... transfering a disease will happen much slower in the wild as well because large quantities of deer aren't continuously in close contact with one another... that doesn't mean it can't happen, just not as easily as farmed animals. That is just common sense... deer farming, no matter what we might think about the "hunting" aspect or canned hunt part, like any farming can be done right or done wrong... some farms are impeccable while others are filthy... I'm just confused at how a CWD deer can be brought into your herd without being examined or tested prior to purchasing or transferring the animal. That doesn't make sense.

That's a great buck.. way to go on the retrieval.. congrats

Not sure why it bothers you how guys take photos of their own bucks... and usually those hunter take the best quality photos. I don't believe its always about trying to make the buck look bigger... I think its more about producing a good quality photo to preserve and enjoy the memory of a successful hunt.. you'll probably notice too lots of the old trend of pic in the pick-up truck and hanging from the filthy garage on the facebook page... lol... I like the new trend much better...

What a beauty!

Why would anyone care how someone else wants to take a picture... its not your buck or your pic... having said that, typical -main-frame 6x6 bucks are extremely rare.. this buck is an absolute monster... he could sit a mile from this buck and it still would be HUGE... he could sit in the rack and it still would be HUGE... he could cut 3" of the top of each tine and this buck still would be HUGE... and there are some that care how the guy that KILLED the buck takes his own pictures? Really??

Why wouldn't you shoot one?

Why would you think he was kidding? A hunter carrying a gun walking down the road during a snow storm? Why would he not want to make sure you had a license? -

I notice that most people who have a problem with any law enforcement officers.. seem to have had many problems with them... multiple tickets that, off course, per their account were unjustified... my experiences have been that most officers would rather not have to do the paperwork involved with issuing a bogus ticket... unless of course maybe you were giving the officer some reason not to like you or your attitude... I make it a point to be compliant with game laws or laws in general... if I didn't know the law and didn't know I was breaking a law I would simply tell the officer that and also tell him that I understand that I was wrong and would completely understand if he decided to write me a ticket.. ignorance is no excuse for the law. I have encountered the occasional "chest puffer" officer who starts out with the "I'm authority" attitude... but usually I kill their attitude with kindness... I find that they stop with that attitude when you show them what a more pleasant one looks like. -
You have to know Charlie to know his dedication to the study of whitetails.. although it is true he makes his living doing it.. you also must know that he is a man of extreme integrity... all his writings come from years of studying whitetail behavior up close and personal.. even me, as cynical as I can be about some things would go as far as to call him an expert on whitetail behavior... and as knowledgeable as anyone in the world on the subject.

In fact, it's quite a bit before dark

Photoperiod is the initial driver... photoperiod is what triggers hormonal change in the bucks which triggers the urge to breed, breeding activity itself can be all over the place based of moon, temperature, number of hot does and even overall health off the herd... mid November is always a good bet... but it can happen a bit earlier or a bit later... pre-rut activity and even post rut activity can be just as good depending on the number of bucks (and does) in a given habitat.

Long brow tines.. nice buck!

There are some nice deer in the DeRuyter area... there is a lot of habitat there and it is very rural... deer density is good as well... would be a good choice...

I don't enter deer contests... don't like them.

Cool Sam... I get the just not feeling it thing... I might have or might not have taken him just depending on how I felt at that moment.. hard to explain to others, but I get it... with my recurve I'm thinking I'd take a poke at him.. cool video for sure.

Funny you say that.. there were a couple hills that were so steep that I would take 2 steps and he would drag me back 3 because of the slippery leaves... my buddy Paul would actually grab the rack with his crippled hands and help just enough to take the edge off so I could pull him up the hill... the buck would pull me back down the hill a ways a few times and we would stand there laughing and joking how he just wasn't ready to leave the woods and was fighting back. It would have sucked if I didn't have a friend there for comedy relief.
-
Pic of me dragging out deer... my buddy came out to keep me company while dragging and to take some photos... he couldn't help with the drag because he is disabled... he was hunting about a mile away so I was able to contact him... just having someone there to talk to and share the experience made the drag less grueling

I'm thinking either wooly or pygmy...

Find the high and dry spots in the swamp and you will find the deer

The only problem with getting your answer here for a legal question is that the only way you'll know for sure that what they're telling you is correct is if someone copies & pastes the actual rule or law from the DEC site itself which you could go and get yourself... if you just take the word of someone on a forum you could be getting misinformation.. and lots of times the answers are all over the place... DEC regs you ought best get from the source.

definitely potential there!
