  1. Don't jinx us.. you know if you take it off it will definitely snow!!! LOL
  2. I usually donate a doe or two to the venison donation drive... nice thing is the butcher takes it and processes it... all you do is drop it off... it's tax deductible too.
  3. Been hunting Stratford for 30 years... I hunt the big woods off the Edick Rd... deer are few and far between unless you're willing to put on some miles and get back in the woods a ways.
  4. Only the smartest of bucks die of old age... what a buck!!
  5. Have a friend who's camp is named " Spike Horn Chalet" ... needless to say there are spike horn racks littering the walls of the camp.
  6. Ahhh ... air archery.. I like that.... wait, that's a spear gun. Yeah I'd be ok with that during the archery season too... and muzzleloader season, and gun season.
  7. LOL... either... spear hunting would be pretty exciting I think.. and quite the challenge. I would definitely do it.
  8. I don't think a weapon should be defined by how it fires, but more by how it kills... a crossbow kills the exact same way as any bow. I wonder how bow hunters would feel if there was a movement to allow spears in to archery season. Basically a huge arrow propelled by hand. I'd like to see the argument against that.
  9. For most of us the photo is not really that big a deal. We see or have seen images like that throughout our years of hunting. I'm sure the pic was taken and shown about as a means of showing some of the coyote hunting prowess by the hunter. The fact that it was taken from wherever it was originally posted and shown around other forums is not necessarily the fault of the picture taker. The need for others to pass the picture around to show it's poor taste is probably more the problem. Had it not made it to this forum.. 100's of people would not have had to witness the photo... multiply that by however many times it has been posted to make a point about poor taste and you can see how it is those that are trying to make the point that are actually fueling the fire for those that would take offense to the photo.
  10. Emotions are very powerful indeed when dealing with liberal, tree hugger types... most of their thinking is done with their hearts instead of their heads.. so tugging at there heartstrings is a very good way to get a message across and shut them up.
  11. I have sat in on quite a few new classes and I have to say the fellas doing it today do a great job.
  12. I'm not saying that they don't play a part in controlling population... in fact.. without them NY might be overrun with deer... I'm saying they are not by any means devastating the whitetail in NY like many hunter think... and are currently no threat to overall whitetail populations in NY... coyote numbers would need to be much higher or whitetail populations much lower for coyotes to be having an overwhelming impact on NY whitetails.
  13. You're right I have no knowledge about psycho-babble BS and nonsensical rambling. Kind of like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDocL7AfIRo&feature=player_detailpage
  14. Classic..lol... the 70's were such a different time... how things change.
  15. Sorry I forgot to mention that some of your posts simply make no sense at all... I have no idea what the hell you're talking about.
  16. If you think about it... even if all the talk about coyotes killing deer were true...every coyote in NY would have to eat 10 deer per year just to keep up with hunters and twice that to keep up with population growth... it just isn't happening. The truth is that the combined effort of hunters and coyotes are barely making a dent in NY whitetail populations.. except maybe in some smaller habitats... and even there they are not decimating herds
  17. I'm sure you didn't see this all over Wayne county or more than a few times... that is considered isolated. I never said coyotes never kill deer.. I said deer are not anywhere near the top of their list as a food source.. coyotes are not in the habit of tracking down and killing whitetails.. they do not hunt in packs like wolfs for animals twice their size despite all the tall tales being told that they do. In rare cases they may gang up on a wounded or weakened deer if the opportunity arises and they are hungry enough.
  18. LOL.. more of this BS? Has anyone else noticed that after his initials post FSW has spent the remainder of his posts trying to convince everyone that he isn't full of ----.
  19. 40 years ago I went to a class on a week night in a small room upstairs over a restaurant... the class lasted about 2 1/2 hours... passed a written test.. and that was it. There wasn't even a gun of any kind present.
  20. Exactly right Pygmy.. when opportunity arises... coyotes are just that, opportunists... deer are not on the top of their list as a food source... 99% of what they eat are small easy to catch mammals and rodents. Packs of coyotes are not out actively seeking out deer to run down, tear apart and eat. Hunters take around 250,000 deer each year out of a 1 million deer herd... which are replaced each year with nearly twice as many new fawns... coyotes would have to kill 10 deer for every coyote in NY just to keep up with hunters... coyotes are not hurting deer populations across NY... isolated small habitats maybe but for the most part it's all a myth. It would be better maybe if it were true... hunters can't keep up with the population growth on their own at this point.
  21. If you're using a ml/bow tag... you should be able to take either sex the last 14 days.
  22. In a way, if you look at how society is becoming dumbed down it makes sense that more and more hunters will want an easier go of it when it comes to weapons... old school just is a bit more work and less desirable these days.. doesn't really bother me as long as I can still do it the old way and they don't try to take that away. Whatever gets hunters in the woods is okay by me. A decline in hunters is way more detrimental to hunting than an added modern weapon or two.
