Land needed for an event
Bleitten04 replied to Str8shooter_USA's topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
Staightshooter I wish I could possibly help you. It is possible in the future that I could possibly do something. It would be nice if you kept the forum updated with upcoming things where people may be able to help out. Also maybe if you put this post on one of the hunting boards more people would see it and respond. Good luck and BTW I think what your doing is great and I hope it works out for you and whoever gives a hand!!! -

I wonder if this deer could get any closer?

You can't see its the top of its head..... Could be a big buck you don't know about LOL -
Oneida lake has some nice ones to. I do most of my fishing for them at a small lake that is near me in CNY. I usually use a rat L trap or a clack n rap.

Trails that lead to the area where you think they are bedding might be good if there is a suitable tree. Maybe try a little doe estrous scent and maybe a few estrous calls. Just my 2 cents I wouldn't take it to heart!!! Best thing to do would probably see what everyone else has to say and then pick each post apart a little to find a happy medium that you feel will get you in there undetected.

That one with the buck and the fawn is pretty sweet it could be on a calendar or something!!!

I've heard the Cortland and Homer area. I think they escaped from the coldbrook game farm down in Homer. i went looking for some on the state land there and didn't see any. I will for sure be making another trip down there after deer season.

yea what the heck is in that pic?

These are some pretty crazy stories I hope I never have to run into. ??? Probably the oddest thing I have seen is a car. I mean I was pretty far into the woods and I lood around and here is a car. I don't know why it was there but maybe someone used it as a hunting blind back in the day. On state land I've come across all kinds of junk that you can tell people just drove by and throughout. Such things as tv's, microwaves, and even a washer or dryer. LOL.

Here's a funny story and some people might not find it ok but you can talk with my uncle about that. Anyways he is very agreeing with any hunter who asks for permission to hunt his land. He will not say no unless there is a bunch of people already with permission. He doesn't want the place over populated. He was out back one time and saw a wood stand that was put up without his permission. So he went and grabbed a chain saw and cut it so if you were to walk up it you would fall when you got to the top. You really couldn't see that it was cut from the ground. I dont know if anyone took the bait or not though. Another story that I find pretty funny was that from my uncles house you can see one big tree that is straight back. It has a huge croch in it and every year on opening day there would be someone standing in that tree with his gun in hand looking to shoot. In front of that tree is all goldenrod and thick cover. Other hunters would be pushing deer to him. None of these people had permission to hunt. So my uncle sends his two kids out with a horn that makes a siren sound and had them sneak behind his barn so that the hunters could hear it but not see them. Well they haven't been back since then. LOL. -
What is it?

Yea I'm just about tagged out on close calls with hitting deer. I could have reached out and touched a 6 pt on the thruway and going to my hunting spot on opening morning one ran literally feet in front of my truck. Then agian last night one crossed the road about 20 or 30 yards in front of me. Ive never hit a deer and never really even been close to hitting one until this past month. I would hate so say my only deer this year came from an accident!!!! ???
-
I would hate for this to be the outcome, but is it possible that someone else might have stumbled acrossed it at some point in time and took it themselves?

Saw a couple does this evening but it was terrible weather. They came in between the periods of rain. I'm hoping this weekend can bring some movement.

"they way i look at it is even if a guy was not in the mood to have s*x and saw a hot girl or smelled some nice perfume walk by, you would still look! maybe not the best comparison lol but you get the idea... " I actually think it is a very good comparison. I actually was thinking almost the same thing. If I'm walking down the street with a girl friend or some significant other I would still be turing and lookin and pretty girls!! Hehehehe TH41 Ive heard the same thing. Bucks will always be able to breed once they shed velvet and would be interested if they smelled doe estrous. And again I agree with how many of the doe estrous scents are really legit? I use code red doe estrous and haven't seen it really work but if I recall from an earlier post I think Geno said thats what he uses to and he has had some luck with it. So who knows? lol

The wind opening weekend was horrible but today it actually wasn't to bad. The rain though!!!! Found out the hard way that my pants are no longer water proof!!!! LOL!!!

I guess I should refrase the way I wrote my previous post. I do think that the pigs need to go because of the problem they would create if they became over populated. I'm just saying if they had no disadvantages and all they were was something to hunt and get some food from it would be pretty cool to just go out to a regular hunting spot and harvest one. For the greater good of NY they do need to be removed. Will it happen? I really don't know because from what I have heard they are spreading and if you need to remove 70% just to keep the population controlled... well I just don't think that can be done just by telling hunters you can hunt them whenever you want with basically no restrictions other than common hunting rules. Trapping sounds like a great idea though.

Congrats!!!!!! Nice Buck!!!!

Went out this evening and was pretty depressed with the rain and actually about 5 minutes of what I guess you could call snow > !!!! Did see a couple does that were about 100 yards away in between the periods of rain. I'm pretty sure its suppose to be crapy weather tomorow and I'm hoping it keeps the deer bedded until Saturday.

I carry four which is all my quiver will hold. If I shot and missed after two though I don't think I would waste the last two with out going back to the range or targeting shooting at something!!!
-
If you look closely you can see the tag that is on its left antler. What is that thing hanging straight down from its left antler though. Almost looks like velvet still hanging there?
-
I got some real mixed feelings on the feral pigs. I know that they cause a lot of damage to crops and if they aren't taken care of they will be all over NY before people realize it. On the other hand I would love to go out to my normal hunting area and have the chance of taking a hog!!!! Don't know how to think on this. But IMO it would be better for NY if they were removed.

NYBuckBoy I think I saw those leafs in the store. Are they the ones where you put back in the container and they refress themselves? And if they are do they really refress themselves or is it just a hoax?
