1. Had one knock mine all apart once but never anything like that! It does give me an idea though; hollow out the middle of the insert in someone's target and put a baggie full of fake blood in it so when they shoot it the target bleeds.
2. Holy Hannah! Don't think I would've wanted to lift that one into the truck.
3. Thanks. There are some really nice ones on here. NY does hold some big ones, just have to really look for them.
4. I could've sworn I read that somewhere too, but I just re-read the book twice and can't find it anywhwere. I've never done drugs and I quit drinkin' so I guess it's just old age kicking in. ;D
5. Probably bow then rifle for me. In my experience the rifle damage has more to do with the shot placement than the ammo selection though. I have shot two bucks with my .450 Marlin and had a nice clean .45 caliber hole straight through. I've had a buck hit with a 150 gr .30-06 in a quartering away shot that made a ever-loving mess out of the off side front quarter, while one broadside, hit just behind the shoulder with a 180 gr Federal HE .30-06 went clean through with little spoilage.
6. Hopefully without this turning into anything heated, is there anyone who doesn't shoot does? Why or why not? I am just curious because I was brought up in a "You don't shoot does because if you do there won't be any more bucks" household. I have read and seen enough at this point I know that (shooting does) isn't the only part of the population equation. The last couple years I have considered taking a doe during MZ season if I hadn't gotten a buck but then I either had a buck and didn't need to, or I had a shot but just couldn't bring myself to do it. I guess old habits die hard. I was on vacation this past week and I saw 20 antlerless deer the whole week but not a single buck and I got to thinking that when money is tight it is sort of stupid to let "free" meat walk by. Most of them didn't end up within bow range (range that I am comfortable shooting anyway) but they were all well within rifle/MZ range. This may be the year, we'll see I guess.
7.

There is a late NT/MZ in certain units but if you look, it is MZ only and specifically forbids carrying a bow on page 22 of the syllabus. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8305.html " Hunters shall not have in their possession, or be accompanied by a person who has in his or her possession, a bow or firearm other than the legal muzzleloading firearm." http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28605.html "2010 Deer Hunting Season Dates

Area Regular Season Bowhunting Muzzleloading Special Firearms Season

Northern Zone Oct. 23 - Dec. 5 Sept. 27 - Oct. 22 Oct. 16 - Oct. 22 [glow=red,2,300]Dec. 6 - Dec. 12 (WMUs 5A, 5G, 5J, 6A, 6C, 6H, 6G only)"[/glow]

[/l][/l]

8. My 9 pt Adirondack buck. This is my biggest buck so far, dressed 175 lbs. Louis Spina in Rome did the corner mount for me. The picture is a little grainy because it was taken with a cell phone.
9. I don't use any of the scent spray stuff, I just drink a big glass of fox pee every morning so when I sweat or burp I produce my own cover scent.
10. Bugged 1 on the way in, couldnt see if it had horns. about half hour ago 5 does came across field behind me. got to about 50 yds or so out and something to the south spooked em and they split. about 60 geese out in the field now.
11. Never used to, but last season I started. I really got to thinking about it because my wife was pregnant with our first. Our son was due in the end of November and I was sitting in a stand I had just put up before bow season opened and started thinking about what would happen if I fell and got killed before I even got to see him. I have the HSS setup.
12. Looks nice but how do you get into it? Is the bottom loose enough to get under or do you have to climb over the front rail through that little window to get in?
13. I can't find any info on it. I wouls assume no but I have a few calls into NYS parks and DEC officers I know to find out. No, there is no longer a mandatory check. "Attention Madison and Oneida County Deer Hunters There no longer is a Chronic Wasting Disease containment area within Madison and Oneida Counties, and there will not be a mandatory deer check for harvested deer in this area in 2010. Hunters are now free to move harvested deer outside of the former containment area." http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8325.html The two infected "wild" deer that were found seem a little sketchy to me anyway. There were two infected captive herds a couple miles apart and these deer were found right in between the two. Now I'm not typically a wild eyed "Allstate-released-tigers-to-cut-down-car/deer-accidents" conspiracy type, but I've always wondered if these two "wild" deer were actually escaped/released from one of these captive herds.
14. 1973 Bear Grizzly and/or 1986 Darton 30MX for bowhunting. Sometimes I carry a 1921 Savage 99 takedown .30-30 in the deer woods.
15. Whoops, didn't realize I was trespassing in the Region 3 area, my tags are all for regions 5-6. ;D
16. I bowhunt my land and my father's farm. I only gun hunt in the big woods up North. After spending a few weeks hunting where you never see a road, house or another person it sucks to come back down home where it takes 15 minutes to go through a patch of woods and find six houses on the other side. I know how the old man feels now because I drive around and say "I remember when so-and-so had corn there" and now there's a bunch of houses. :'(
17. Evening all, longtime lurker first time poster. I've been following several of the ongoing threads regarding deer drives and ARs but this thread about sitting on the property lines encouraged me to sign up for an account. The username has no real meaning in case anyone wondered, I use it on a few other forums and it's just easier to remember the one. Anyway on the original topic: I have a couple stands on my property lines. I have 48 acres that is longer than it is wide. I have permission to be on the neighbors but I don't hunt there. I actually even sit with my back to the line. My land is mostly open fields with an old overgrown pasture down one side. The deer can usually be found out in the big field or moving along the property line (on my side) about 10 yds in. I can't set in the middle of the field without being spotted so I sit in the edge of the woods on one side or in the hedgerow on the other. I do make sure my stands are on a tree that is clearly on my side of the line though and not straddling it. I feel it is safer that way because I can see/shoot out into my property without worrying about who may be on the neighbors property because I know who is on my land. I post my land with frequent signs on a brand new fence so no one can "accidentally" cross the line. I will pursue legal action against trespassers. I don't pay $10,000 (that's right, ten-THOUSAND) a year in property taxes so every Tom Dick and Harry in the county who thinks they have a right to go wherever they want can hunt on it. If someone hit a deer on the County land I would be perfectly happy to help them get it out as long as the blood trail STARTS on the County. The house is visible from anywhere on the land so there is no excuse of "I didn't know where to find the owner".
