  1. But will cherry make the meat to sweet?
  2. As I mentioned in "the other thread", I do wash my clothes in Ivory soap, I store them in a plastic tote for easy transportation, and yeah, I toss a pine branch in the tote. Do I honestly think any of this helps? Nope. I have bought those scent eliminators and cover scents, but never had any faith in them. Now, aside from the soap and pine, I do nothing. Well, that's not true, I don't put on my outer layers until I am ready to head into the woods, and take them off before the drive home. I brought this up a few times in the past. You can buy all the crap the hunting shows and internet ads, magazine ads tells you works, but people were killing wild game long before any of this crap was here. Hunters have killed deer wearing red plaid wool coats and blue jeans, smoking, and just after crapping out chili.
  3. I am shooting 53#'s, 26 1/2" draw, 28" arrows, with a total arrow weight of 374.6grns with inserts, knocks, and fletching ( so the little scale I have says ). My bows IBO at max is 300FPS ( depending on what site you look at ). I have not shot through a crono, but I feel a mechanical would not perform well from my set up. That's just me I have never trusted mechanical BH's. I know people rave about them, but IMO, there is already so much that can go wrong with just lining up the shot with a vert bow, adding another moving component to equation isn't worth the risk. I have and always will shoot fixed blades, but not cut on contact. I am already dialed in for this year, but next year I will be switching to a cut on contact fixed blade. I have let more deer walk due to fear of a bad shot with the bow then I honestly care to talk about. If I am not 100% confident in the shot, I just won't take it. The last thing I need to add to that anxiety is a moving broadhead.
  4. Going to experiment a lot. There's a ton of different chips out there these days. Like I mentioned, a lot of testing and seeing what works best with what meat. I'm not worried about brine/dry-brining, know how to do that. I make my own rubs from scratch 99% of the time. But, I really lean towards woods like hickory, not too sweet.
  5. I'm pretty much done. I got outside earlier to make sure I was on at 25yds ( sorry no pic ) sitting in my chair. I already know my pop-up-blind has plenty of room to make shots without the bow hitting the ceiling or walls ( made sure of that last season ). Form is solid and anchor points are dialed in. I might shoot one or two more outside in the chair, but doubt anything will get any better. But, I think it's time to put the hunting BH's on, and just start counting down the days.
  6. Appreciate the input. Already decided to just make the au jus on the side and add it the next day during the warming process.
  7. Everything I have read and watches says a pork shoulder/butt is the best way to cut your teeth in. I will doing that often. Funny you said that as at first I wanted to do pulled pork with the chicken breast. Then got to thinking, pork and chicken.....Nope, want red meat with the chicken. Wanted to do brisket, but after doing some research, reheating in the chafing pans we bought might make it more like pulled beef then sliced. So, i-round roasts it is. Gonna use a lot of propane tanks this winter trying different things. Looking forward to it though.
  8. Not a whiskey guy anymore. Never heard of that Jeremy, but might work. Sure would make your freezer smell smokey.
  9. I can't do nuts for the wedding. I have to smoke everything the day before as we aren't taking the smoker with us, no room for it. BUT!! I sure will be making these for us right here at home. Always made me hungry when you posted pics, especially the almonds! Ever add some hot spice like cayenne to them? I never thought about how smoky the au jus would become. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. Much appreciated.
  10. Steak, grilled baked potatoes with blue cheese and bacon bits, green tomatoes, and sliced cucumber with red wine vinegaret. Also a couple jalapenos from the garden not in the pic. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  11. Huh? You are kidding right? Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  12. Absolutely and thank you! That's why we are getting smoker shortly.
  13. The one we want has the water pan, I was just worried with adding the water the natural flavor from the beef may get watered down. Thank you for the feedback tommyc50, I will look Steve Raichlens up.
  14. We are catering our own wedding next year. Will be buying a smoker in the next few weeks ( propane ) as the menu is going to be smoked boneless chicken breast and smoked beef i-round. My question is with the beef, can I smoke it in tin a pan so I can use any juice that drips off for an aujeu? Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  15. Yes really. Why? Because it's just the way I do things. I'm not huge on cover scents or eliminators, but feel the Ivory soap doesn't hurt. That and it's an oder free soap I get in a package of 3 for $1. The pine branches are free so if they help or not, I'm only out 5 minutes of my time to walk out and get them. The only thing I treat my hunting clothes with is Sawyer's. I started using the plastic tote mainly because it was easier to keep the clothes in that hauling to and from the truck. I don't put my hunting clothes on until I am actually going into the woods, and then they go back in the tote when I am done hunting for the day. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  16. You just gave Pygmy an open invitation. Good luck to you Sir, having Pygmy as a son-in-law should be interesting.
  17. So, he's just a fake? How very political and self absorbed. Line the pockets, with no real care about the Second Amendment. I send at least one email a week trying to get this repealed.
  18. http://www.newyorkupstate.com/news/2017/07/upstate_ny_congressman_sponsors_bill_that_would_repeal_safe_act.html Been looking around, and it seems like another "stall" tactic. Anyone have any info on the progress? Or was it flat out "black-balled" by queen Cuomo and her princesses?
  19. Just shot 2. A fp on the bottom, a BH on the top. 15 yards from sitting in the folding chair I have to go in the blind. Only shot the fp because I my group opened a bit and didn't like that. Only other arrow I shot since my last post here was a BH at about 17, if you look closely you can see the mark on the top eye on this target. Little high, but on the money. 20. The liquid Ivory soap has a sweet oder IMO, the bar stuff doesn't have. So I buy a few bars at a dollar store, and shave a little off into the washer with my hunting clothes. Just the way I always have. The pine branch is something I started doing about 4 years ago. Read about it somewhere, supposed to make your clothes smell like pine, which it does faintly. Does it really work to mask my scent? Probably not. But part of my routine now. To each their own, this is just the way I do things. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  21. I wash my hunting clothes with shaved ivory soap bars, air dry. Then I store them in a plastic tote with a pine branch or two. I replace the pine as needed.
  22. Some bruisers right there! Good luck this season! Hope one of them walks right into your shooting lanes this season!
  23. Happy birthday! Here's hoping you have a great day with family and friends, great food, and a few great beers.
  24. Now that right there is funny! Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
