5 different areas in the SZ, and three in the NZ. This year has just been strange. More hunters out on public land down here in the SZ could be part of it, but I just didn't see the same activity, even scouting I wasn't seeing a lot of sign. I'll be out at least a few more days before it's over.

Do deer go completely nocturnal during late season?
DirtTime replied to Northcountryman's topic in Deer Hunting
Yes. Deer are far more active at night all year then they are during the day. There are exceptions, but this is the general order of things. -
I haven't seen a deer or even any fresh tracks the past 4-5 hunts. I'm hoping Wednesday will have them up their feet after the winds die down here. Part of me wants to throw in the towel for the season, but the other part won't quit till it's over.

Go west young man. It worked for the gold rush so it might work for you too.

Maybe I'll try the 10-2 sit tomorrow or Tuesday. At this point this season it can't fikin' hurt. Maybe I'll hunt with no pants on and see if that kind of full moon helps.

I watched it, but I was gritting my teeth hard on the part blaming the deer hunters for the road being trashed. I don't know why, but that mentality just peeves me. The user name was changed right after I posted my first reply to this thread and used the acronym. I very sincerely doubt this person is actually the Irene who makes the videos. It's very sad, and more then a little pathetic for grown adults to create accounts just to be disruptive on forums, but it happens a lot on many boards. I seriously think it's about attention, some people need to have it, and don't care how they get it or what type of attention they receive. -

I don't know about that. I know we have a guy who looks up porn and gets ads for it, and we have several who are infatuated with pictures of some naked black dude. That's not actually 50 shades of gray. Is it?

Something tells me the person in the video isn't the person who registered here in 2020. I feel this may have been yet another account made by someone who's really bored and has no life so they make multiple accounts on web forums to pass the time. I think it's time the resident IP tracker needs to get back on the job ( @WNYBuckHunter ). -

I made it from around 5:45 to 7:30 and then the wind got me. 10* with the wind chill and it was blowing right through my clothes. Being chilly is one thing, shivering kicked my backside. Tomorrow's another day. -

I may have missed that one. Was there any talk of which of those trees produced the best wood for axe/hatchet handles? -

I started picking my nose again, and wiping on all of my brush blinds. If schmucks want to use them I hope they get a handful. Next year I may upgrade to pooping in bags and leaving it in the blinds. We had a few really great camping trips over the Spring, Summer, and fall. camped a few places we had not been too. Fishing was pretty good, what I did of it anyway. I planned out a primitive camping trip in the ADK's for last May. Had a guy drive up from PA and another from CNY come up and we had a great trip camping on a lake. I got some turkey hunting in that Saturday morning and even though I didn't hear or see a bird I loved just being out trying for a turkey where there aren't a lot of turkeys. Broke in a new tent on that trip, cooked some great food over the campfire, talked about knives, hunting, hiking, a little about guns- two of guys don't hunt, and just enjoyed being away from everything. Frogs and peepers screamed all night making the first night odd to sleep, but the second night it was like music. Our week at the cabin was great. I hunted all 5 days that we were there for the full day, fished a bit in the afternoons using a stick and some line, hiked a few afternoons, and visited my wife's favorite shop up there. -

Welcome to the forum Avery. It only took you over a year to make a first post, LOL. Interesting video. Jeez, another blame the deer hunters for everything minded member. I guess turkey and small game hunters don't drive those roads using trucks? It would make sense if Bill told Avery to join the site, he doesn't like those deer bow and gun hunters much either, and has posted Avery's videos here a few times. Public land will be a forever changing environment if it's a high pressure place. Land that gets a lot of people doing everything from walking dogs to hunting a lot will make a difference. Sometimes looking for a place that a lot of others won't go is the better route. We all get comfortable in the places we hunt, but stepping out to other areas can sometimes allow for seeing more game, and a change of scenery. -
I say we just flood the political area with outdoorsy stuff. Since someone has made it 100% clear they are only here "piss people off", and be disruptive, I say those of us who actually go outside return the favor with everything from bushcraft to what slippers you like to wear at camp or if you wear crocks while in the woods. I'll kick things off: What's your favorite color of vanes?

Now that's how to spend a year! If you ever want some pointers on using a ferro rod or flint and steel let me know- we may be able to work out a meet up at some point after the Winter is over. I can offer a little insight with friction fire, but I'm still working out the kinks on that one myself, and I'm only about 50/50 on success. My darkest time for 2021 was the loss of my pup. Still not over that yet. 2020 was a wreck for me! Landing in the hospital for a couple weeks in the beginning of the year with my wife being told it doesn't look good and I may not make while I was in the ER wasn't fun. When she told me that had happened once I got out and was home it was a huge wake up call. I used to think death was acceptable, but that scared the shit out of me. -

I'm still working on what works best for me, but I have a starter then use the ram rod. I bought a second starter and will be buying a spare ram rod in the near future. I want to pick up one of the screw in starters just to make removing the powder pellets and bullet easier. Good luck to all heading out today, live from the house while I wait for tree removal service to get here and probably f-up the roof I had put on three years ago. -

Couple guys in the parking area, but I was in and ready before them so maybe they'll push something my way. Yesterday was quiet. Good luck to everyone still grinding it out. -
Wouldn't one have to actually go hunting to talk ( brag ) about it? Grouse has pictures of a vacation, at work, but can't seem to have a picture of him hunting. Just like a few of the other political loud mouths that used to troll the boards.
-
Typo. But, it seems like these threads run that long and probably 366 days when there's a Leap Year.
-
That's fantastic! Congrats! Good to know you ran right home to talk about vaccines in time for lunch!

Stop it! I'm having just as crappy a season as many, dealing with knees that are starting to hurt all the time, back issues, gut issues, and wasn't feeling the bow season at all. Hunted thick stuff, swamps, fields, hard woods, three different areas in the ADK's and I'm not throwing in the towel yet so you can't either. You're Bunny Man! The Man, The Myth, The Legend. Like they say, zero to hero in a second.
