  1. I have a compass, 2 actually. I also have maps. Also have pens to fill out tags and zip ties to attach tags if need be. Some things should be a given and not have to be mentioned. I am taking the binos for the hiking trips. But will still leave them in my pack. Thank for the luck wishes.
  2. So, I have scaled back what will be in my pack. Fire kit, spare gloves, hot hands, and the bare basics like my arm guard, release, TP, drag strap, some shoe laces ( good cordage just in case ), binos, flashlight/head lamp, and a couple extra knives. I am planning to take my small folding chair, but not sure I will use it. Doubt the deer will come to me, so I will most likely be still hunting or stalking. I also put together a personal fishing kit, some line, hooks, split shots, and a spare folder in an Altoids tin. Yes, I do plan to cut a stick and see if this fishing kit works. I like doing this stuff, so if you have an issue I simply say, step outside your box. I will start getting my gear packed up Thursday. Will wash my hunting cloths with Ivory, re-treat with Sawyers, and pack them back up. I did pick up some sent cover for this trip, I don't know if I will actually have to use it, but it was on sale so I figured why not have it. Thought about it, and I am taking the .25-06 up for the 10/26 regular opener. My wife has a ton of plans for the last day, but I will be able to get a few hours in with the rifle weather permitting.
  3. Still confused here. Said you shot a deer on Sunday and didn't recover. Next, you post sorry copy and paste error, and you recovered the buck. Which is it? I'm not ball busting. This is more confusing then a stormy thread.
  4. Little bit of light to hold on too. Still thinking about you and yours brother!
  5. Way out there tonight for my beer choice. LBL, candle burning to send smoke for TurkeyFeathers brother, and the EDC knife I carry now.
  6. Some areas up there deer seem jittery, and others they are curious what we are. Been some time since I hunted up that way, I don't remember them being any more jumpy then down south. The private land we hunt in the lower ADK's the deer don't spook easily. They are used to the land owner walking around the woods and driving his ATV's. A few weeks back I was up there at my buddy and I's camping spot, I did a morning squirrel hunt/scout, big loop around camp. I made myself a cup of coffee, and head to the 'p'-tree. Two does had come in and bedded down just over the hill behind our camp, the area I had walked through less then 30 minutes before. The barked at me and ran, one went maybe 60 yards away and the other actually ran towards me and stopped 10 yards from me and stared at me. I tried to get my phone out of my pocket and shifted my weight, "SNAP" went a twig, they barked at me again and this time hauled ass. I never used to hunt that area until last season. This year, I built a couple brush blinds for the wife and I back there. I saw plenty of scat in that area, so I plan to see how it goes.
  7. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Will light a candle for your brother Jay.
  8. Looks like the back end of a small deer. I doubt that's a bear.
  9. Good luck out there! A few less of these critters the better for other wildlife.
  10. This is your first post........... So how did you mention shooting a deer on Sunday?
  11. Classic words from you. GO HUNTING! It does the body and mind good! Done with this crap. I have to get up at 5 AM to hit the woods with my bow. I have no time to keep dealing with your arbitrary posts. If you ever get your 4$$ in the woods to hunt, let us know. We all love those pics of guard rails and trail heads from the ADK's. Best of luck to you on your hunting adventures.
  12. So, once again you are talking out of your a$$. Man, I keep trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, but you just keep posting crap during a season where you should be hunting. Troll!
  13. Stormy, you have links to this new law? When was it enacted? My wife got the call for Jury duty this past Summer. She was hoping she would get out of it, but nope. She got selected. Woman won a decent chunk of change for falling off the sidewalk where a section was crumbling. This was last August. I can't be made aware of details, so I cannot post them here. But, I will tell you this, I have no reason to BS anyone on this site! Unless you post a link to this new law, I'm calling BS! Got a link to the story? Something!
  14. Gut n go! If you hunt yotes, head back in that night and see what comes creeping around.
  15. Gotcha. I will most likely make one during my week long trip in the Daks, and then one with the snow on the ground while also in the Daks on the land the above video was filmed. I don't want to do a talking head video for something like this, doesn't fit the spirit in my humble opinion. But for this thread, I want them to be filmed in the area I love to hunt the most, the Adirondack Mountains.
  16. Marty's is closed our first night up there, the only night we plan to go out to eat. I appreciate the tip though. I think she wanted to hit Indian Lake Restaurant and Tavern. After that first night, we have a great menu planned out, good old hunting camp cooking, hopefully some over a fire. Steaks, chili, stew, wife's making homemade dutch oven cheese bread, I will be making up some jalapeno bannock, and I think one night we are doing sgetti n' meat balls. I will try to check out Kings Flow. My wife has the afternoons, so if she's up for it, then we surely will wet some lines over there. I know she has a few hikes planned, John Pond, Buttermilk Falls, and Watch Hill.
  17. Short update. So, apparently, some of the cabins do have Wi-Fi now. Yeah, I'll be turning off my internet connection. I'm not going the middle Dacks to play on my phone. Now, before anyone gets things twisted with "Oh, if something happens..." yadda yadda, I will not be hunting from the cabin, so I have no need for the www on my big woods vacation. My wife picked up one of the movie projectors you hook up to a laptop and we can watch movies by playing them on a wall with a sheet hung up. We are also taking some board games with us, and cards of course. I keep making a list, checking it, then adding and taking away from it. We will be up there for the regular season opener the last weekend, so I may take one of the rifles and get a hunt in on Saturday morning. I also put together a fire kit with a couple of space blankets in just in case. Just over a week away. Still so pumped for this!
  18. Is this a one video to top them all, or just post up videos as we make them? I got about 20 minutes of footage from last Thursday's morning sit, after editing, I had just over 6, LOL. It was an interesting morning. No deer, and I left my head lamp home. Had a choice, use the hand held flashlight to climb a mountain and not fall on my face, or take my little folding chair. I chose to do the kneeling in wet leaves game and see where I was going. I will back at it in the morning. Have a nice N wind at a measly 5-10 MPH. I can actually hunt a good area over looking a small down sloped hill.
  19. That's one cool looking doe! She would get a pass by me all day, every day.
  20. I know, but geez. Bills have what looks like a future franchise player in Allen, I just don't want to see that screwed up because he takes to many chances.
  21. Not from me. I remember those 4 Super Bowl runs all to well, and then saw my team become a laughing stock there after. I don't count the chickens before they hatch. I agree that Allen needs to dial it back when he runs. He's got talent, showing growth, and getting better. He just needs to realize he's not being paid to be a running back to take the slide.
  22. Yep! I remember all three fist times. The very first I was 8-9. One of my older brothers let me tag along. We hunted some private land on a farm out near Minaville. My mother had known the owner of the farm for years. We mainly still hunted. Looking back, with two of us, it's no wonder we didn't see anything. When I was 13, my sisters boyfriend got me into hunting on a more serious direction. That was on private land out in Jefferson ( not Jefferson County ). Again, my mother knew people so we had private land to hunt. That was mainly me being taught about the woods and learning to deer hunt. That was mainly my mom, my sister, and myself putting on little drives to my sisters boyfriend. The next year I had my course completed and was actually hunting small game putting on the drives. That's the way it went for two seasons. The first time I actually got to hunt deer, I was 16. Same area out in Jefferson, private land in an area that was mainly hardwoods but did have some huge pine trees scattered here and there. My first morning sit! Back eons ago when the season opener was Monday. I was happy just to skip school! There was about 4 inches of snow on the ground, I was dropped off to head in to my chosen spot from boots on the ground scouting over the Summer. It was just a rock rock in front of me, and a big pine tree behind me. Had one of those "heated hunting seat pads", To this day, I still don't like those things, I have one, and my wife seems to like it, but not me. I watched some does mosey by, almost lost it and blasted a couple tree rats that were loud as a rock concert. No blood for me. My sisters boyfriend did kill a nice doe that day though.
  23. Hunt your own hunt. Do what works best for you. Making your gear work best for you is part of the experience. For me it depends on where I sit. The past few years the quiver comes off once I'm in and set. I do have a couple set ups where I am more or less tucked into a high bush with over hangs, I have enough room to set up and draw my bow, but not much room for anything else, so the quiver stays on in those spots.
  24. That's a Goliath of a buck! Awesome non-typical, and it's head is huge!
