  1. so which one gets to put it on their wall?
  2. I had it once as a burger and it was pretty good. I passed a bear at 10 yards yesterday morning because I didn't have the time to drag it out (half mile) or precess it right then.
  3. I sit in my stand until it gets really cold then I stand for a an hour, sit for an hour etc

  5. Everyone be safe and remember to enjoy yourself. You're not at work!
  6. pb&j and apples. sometimes jerky too.
  7. A buddy of mine got his first bow buck and best buck to date on Saturday. He called me at around 10 Saturday morning saying he shot a buck but needed help tracking. He said he tracked for a few hundred yards, bumped the bedding buck and then couldn't tell where it went after that. He says he shot it in both lungs. Not sure how it ran so far with a double lung shot, I get there and we start tracking. He was hunting a stand 200 yards into the woods and saw nothing. Came out to his Jeep to leave and two 8's and 2 spikes ran buy, and he shot one of the 8's. He tracked it 200 yards to his stand (LOL) and it kept going. Blood is great at first, some big spots and big pools and a lot of disturbed leaves so we could follow his path pretty easily. Then the trail went dry and he said, "I already followed him to his bed, let's check it out." So we go to his bed in the all grass and prickers and sure enough, a lot of blood. Saw some spots on the sides of prickers which told us the direction he went off his bed. I noticed 4 clumps of leaves that were overturned, about 8 or 10 feet apart which looked like the buck hopped down the hill. Found another few spots of blood and the buck lay dead 50 yards away. In all, we tracked it like 4 or 500 yards. He shot it through both shoulders and had a pass through, I wonder how it ran so far. It was a fun track and was great practice. It looks like a 1.5 year old with great genetics. Body size was short and small.
  8. Yesterday morning was about to walk out the door for work and saw a sweet wide 6 pointer in my driveway near my car looking all around. First time I saw a buck in my yard. He looked both ways, and walked down my driveway. In this split second, I actually said "damnit, where's my bow?" and ran back up the stairs (in my dress pants, shirt and shined shoes looking for my bow.) Then I thought, wait do I have a buck tag? Crap I already shot a buck, guess I'll watch him. As he tried to cross the road a truck came down the road and he ran back up to my car, looked around then walked slowly across the street. It's amazing how easily excited and flustered I became after seeing a nice buck, I forgot for 10 seconds that I had to go to work and that I don't have a buck tag. LOL Yes, I am very excited.
  9. I'm kinda torn on it. I would like to wait to see if a buck will be tailing. It really depends. I would have not shot the buck in my avatar pic if I shot one of the 6 does that ran by my stand 5 minutes before he appeared (I wanted to take a doe but didn't have a shot as they were running) My best friend will be out with me hopefully, for his first ever hunt. If a doe is heading his way I'd rather let him have a chance at it (we will sit about 80 yards apart).
  10. I do this with the backstraps but marinate them in apple cider for a few hours first. Tastes so damn good.
  11. Ordered 2 Victorinox boning knives, a carving knife and a santuko knife. Excited to butcher my next deer and prepare it. The knives came super sharp, so sharp that when I pulled the boning knife out of the cover, I sliced my palm open a good 2.5". Happened so fast, I never really cut myself like this before. Luckily it was my palm and not my wrist or finger. Anyway, I'm excited to butcher my deer with this boning knife instead of my little pocket knife.
  12. I love to can, but don't want to buy a canner for meats and such. I'm sure I'll get one eventually
  13. My lady bought me the Zippo hand warmer. haven't used it yet but not sure if I will while hunting.
  14. Believe me, I don't think of him as God. Just don't like stopping in on people unannounced because I dislike having it done to me.
  15. I was clearing a shooting lane 2 days ago for a new stand. There was a broken, hanging branch about 25 feet up in my way so I grabbed a hold of a branch i could reach and ran with it trying to pull it down without it falling on me. The branch jerked me back underneath it then it then broke and I slipped and fell on my stomach, tried to cover up and the branch fell right next to me with a loud thud. Definitely a reminded to be more careful.
  16. Real excited. Got a new stand hung on sunday in a great spot. Cut my shooting lanes, my 12ga is on and everything is set.
  17. ok thanks guys. Good discussion. When I see him again I think I will tell him that I'm not going to say anything if he uses the property other times of the year but I would really appreciate it if he stays off during hunting season, which him being a hunter, he should have no problem respecting. He only lives 2 houses down, maybe I'll send him a letter. Really don't want to have problems with people but it is frustrating.
  18. If it goes any further than when happened yesterday, I'll call the owner and see what he wants to do. Really wouldn't want to call the cops because the landowner could just decide it's too much hassle and kick me off. The property is well posted but not with the current owner's address. He bought the property 2 years ago and left the previous owners signs.
  19. I looked his name up, he is a DEP cop. I'm not really policing the property. I'm only home during the day on the weekends. The owner lives in a different county. When I was asking permission, I told him I'd keep an eye on the place if he lets me hunt. So that's what I did. Problem is I did things the right way in asking for permission and everyone else trespasses.
  20. There is a good sized empty lot near where I live. I got permission to hunt it about a month ago and the owner says he doesn't know of anyone who has permission to be there. The place has been riddled with people on quads for years but I haven't seen anyone since I got permission. I was about to head out in the woods yesterday and heard a quad coming down the road so I looked outside and saw a quad going around the locked gate and onto the property. I threw my shoes on and ran up the trail. The quad started coming back down the hill and I stood on the trail and met the rider and his 5 year old son between his legs coming down the trail. I asked the guy if he has permission to be on the land and he smirked and said probably not. I told him who I was and I'm trying to keep trespassers out as I have permission to be on the land. He introduced himself, shook my hand and said he was a cop, a DEP cop. I said "ok, welp, still trying to keep out trespassers" He said "well I've been riding here for 16 years and you're the first one to confront me but yeah, if I see anyone I'll tell them to get off" I said "no, that's ok, I have a good eye on the place and would rather you just stay off" He said again "well I can definitely help you patrol" and again i refused. He then talked about how his kid loves to ride but they don't have property to ride on and that he's a bowhunter too blah blah. I told him again that the homeowner doesn't want anyone else on the property. Then he said "alright, I'm going to ride through the field here and take the road back. Want a ride?" I refused and he was off. I went back home and saw him speed up the road a few minutes later. He knows where I live now and I know his name and where he lives too. I've see this guy many times on the property and it's always him with his little toddler, riding on the road with no helmets and trespassing. He should know better being a DEP cop. I feel like I will see him again and he will say that he is helping me patrol or something. It pisses me off because I wanted a quad since I was a kid but I don't have property to ride it so I never got one.
  21. I barely saw anything this season. Real slow for me but it changed in an instant. That's why hunting is so great.
