I would just tie a rope around its neck and pull but considering it took me 2 1/4 hours to drag my buck the half mile back to my house, I figured a bear would be a bit more difficult and I wasn't ready for it when the time came.
-
I passed one on Sunday morning running by at 10yards. I felt sorry for it as it was exhausted from running and was stressed out. Plus the half mile drag in the back of my mind didn't sway me to shoot it either.

sweet. My buddy's biggest but is a 7pt doe. Hardhorned, no velvet. Looked like a normal buck.

I hope so.

I like Beman a lot. I chose them because they are cheaper than Goldtip.

I don't know what this means. You insulted me using poor grammar. What am I missing?

? it was an honest question. I find their posts entertaining, albeit sometimes overbearing.

I won't use this slip unless the landowner wants it. Too much to fill out and I don't want to be bothersome to the landowner. Plus I don't want to pigeonhole myself with the dates. I just type out a small one sentence line where we both sign and date. If the landowner only wants me there for certain dates/purposes then they can write it on there.

Honest question. Are Steve and Doewhacker married or at least together? I'm seriously asking. I was always under the impression Doewhacker was female.

I have had two ground blind for 2 years now and never used them. That should be my goal for this weekend. Find a good spot for it and brush it in.

well I decided to not say anything to the guy. Screw him. I saw him up and down the road with his quad (towing a trailer with some toddlers on it) but he didn't ride on the property from what I could tell.

I use Lowa boots for cold weather. Waterproof, superlight like a sneaker, and very very warm.

Yes can see that. It's just a part of the hunting package for me. I passed on a bear at 10yds on Sunday morning because I wasn't going to have any time to butcher it that day (and because I didn't want to drag it 1/2 mile). I don't really look forward to butchering but once I start, I do enjoy it.
-
I don't see the point in bringing it to a processor. I had a buddy show me how to butcher my first deer 2 years ago and the rest I just kind of figured it out. I get better with every one. I hung a scaffold bracket off the side of my shed and hung an old pulley on it and jack the deer up with a come along. It's a really satisfying experience to butcher your own and package.

Gotta be a buck chasing the does at some point! I'd stick with it.

Screw it, I'm taking the rest of the week off

I can't friggen wait for next wednesday. Half day then 4 days off where I WILL take down a buck. Hopefully there will be some rutting, haven't seen any activity so far. -
I thought the same. I figured guys who are asking permission the night before are going to shoot anything and everything but he said he passed on a spike and a 6 so that made me happy.

Regular season Opening weekend. How'd you do?

Saw a big flock of turkeys opening morning then a doe running down the mountain past me at full speed. She stopped, sniffed the ground, stepped on a stick and it made a snapping sound and she freaked out, jumped and ran even faster up the hill the way she came. That left a smile on my face for a while after. Saw 2 more does far away. Sunday morning I didn't see anything until I hear something running. I stood with my gun and saw a bear headed right towards me. It was a fat round thing but young I think and it was exhausted and out of breath and just kept it moving while looking behind it. Something must have spooked it. It stopped 10 yards broadside, looked around and then disappeared into thicket. I was really excited to see it. -
Looks good, I'd try it. How big was the bear?
-
look up some youtube tutorials. Should be plenty. I think walmart sells some kits.

well 5 (them 4 plus me) but yea it's not bad. I've never even hunting where they all sat Saturday and Sunday. I saw a doe hauling ass right towards me from where one of them was sitting as well as a bear yesterday so the added pressure is 1 plus.

I made a thread over a month ago about getting permission on a 250acre property near my house. I also made a thread about kicking off a trespasser who was a cop. Last Friday, the day before opening day, i got a voicemail from a guy who says he and 3 family members also got permission to hunt the property. I called him back and he said he hunted there for 20 years up until a few year ago when the new owner bought it. He tracked down the landowner and asked he if could enter the property to get a ladder stand that they left a few years back (this is true, I have seen the stand.) They get to talking and he tells the landowner that they hunted there for years and asks if they can hunt, he says sure and says that 1 other guy hunts there (me) and he gave him my number. I was bummed out a bit we agreed that we would try to keep all the trespassers out together. He was very respectful and said they will stay away from me and that they don't want to mess with my hunting. He said he'd offer help dragging or whatever else I needed. He also said that he will probably only hunt opening weekend and that's it. I called him opening night and he said he saw some small bucks but is only after the big ones and we made plans for the next morning as not to interfere with eachother. I'm wondering how often I'll see them. So, it sucks that more hunters are here but it happens and at least they are respectful and aren't brown and downers or so it seems. I did question what they were doing there for hours the night before opening day hah.
