31, 2 weeks shy of 32... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk -
Just heard a fawn mewing out in the swamp, 2 minutes later a doe and button came by at 30yds, she got a pass. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

2 does at 7:50AM, they were right on time according to my camera, if only their trio of horny buddies kept as punctual... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Well after anxiously waiting all summer for the bucks in my close to home spot to show back up, they finally did, the past week I've had 7 different bucks show up, much later this year than usual. And naturally I drove an hour this morning and a nice buck was under my stand this morning 5 mins from home... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

I've skinned out several coyotes in the past as well as hundreds of other critters but I appreciate everyone's input! I'm by no means an expert so I'm always looking for tips and tricks, I didn't mean actual bleach I was just referring to whitening the skull, I probably shouldn't use that term! Here's 2 I had done last year, I still have 2 in the freezer from last year to take him also. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Thanks! She's in the truck, I'm going to skin her, my buddy tans hides so I'll take it to him later today. I don't pass up Coyotes, ever. I keep and bleach the skulls also. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Just arrowed a big yote at 15 yds, hit him a bit back I think but he's got a 2" hole through him, didn't want to risk trying to stop him so I let her rip Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Rain stopped, light wind, damp. 2nd time in a tree this year, it feels deery this morning. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

It's odd to me how little penetration the arrow got, seems like unless it was quite a distance or extremely low poundage bow, being a field point it would've zipped right through? I agree the angle is also a bit odd, like Moog said, a ricochet shot would seem most probable to me, it explains the lack of penetration also. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

This is exactly right, KE only measures energy at the impact, not the force that keeps the arrow in motion. Momentum is the real # you should look at. That being said, last year I shot a buck at 42 yds, complete pass through with a Hypodermic. Also shot a doe in the spine at 12yds a few years ago with a Hypodermic, no damage to the head at all. You aren't making a mistake switching, put your head where it should go and you'll be all set. I've shot a lot of deer with rage heads and so have my buddies, not one broadhead failure, only operator failure. If you're looking into other fixed heads I highly recommend Ramcats, fly amazing, penetrate like crazy and large cut. The only reason I'm not shooting them still is I cut my new arrows a bit too short for them and they come too close for comfort to my riser at full draw. I've shot deer with at least 10 different broadheads and all of the deer died, no failures. Most "failures" are because someone made a poor shot and this is the excuse they use. Using what you have confidence in is most important, not so much the head. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

HERE COMES THE GUN LAWS
chrisw replied to ryan's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
"water heads" are on both sides of the counter, to say otherwise is obsurd. Shop where you want but I've seen my share of guys who knew everything about nothing come in too... Owning a lot of firearms doesn't make one knowledgeable about them. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk -
HERE COMES THE GUN LAWS

It's very foolish for you to assume that because someone works in a "box" store that they are somehow less competent than someone in a mom and pop shop. Stupid or I'll informed doesn't have boundaries, including store walls, box or not. I couldn't even begin to tell you the number of people that came in thinking they knew something only to accuse everyone in the store of being ignorant, meanwhile you have 3 guys with 50+ years of firearms experience/training telling them they're not right. The coin has 2 sides also... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk -
HERE COMES THE GUN LAWS

I also sold a 10GA single shot to a gentleman years ago who wasn't suspicious acting per se... But he was clueless to firearms and honestly gave me a weird vibe but nothing to say he wasn't just an awkward fella, that's not illegal. Well I hate to say I also got a call from the police department a few weeks later and 2 officers came to ask me questions about the actions of the individual at the point of sale, the gentleman took his own life with that very firearm I sold him. Now there's no way of knowing what someone's intent is fully but some things can be stopped, unfortunately this wasn't the case.... I will say most denials are a spouse trying to buy a firearm for a significant other or their son/daughter. In these cases we would not sell them to the person if their son daughter was old enough to buy their own firearm, or if it was a spouse who was also of legal age... That's the LAW. It's called STRAW SALE. We would sell them a gift card for the exact amount of the purchase and the person would return and fill out their own 4473. The FBI will also send agents into stores and give this information to the sales associate blatantly and if the sale is completed the company gets a hefty fine. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk -

I can tell you I've sold thousands of firearms and had plenty of A Holes as customers but never denied anyone other than sketchy answers or information. So if I go into buy a gun and I'm making weird statements to the salesman and acting suspicious you think by law he should HAVE to sell me the gun?? No. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk -
HERE COMES THE GUN LAWS

This is exactly right. The FFL has the right to refuse ANY firearms sale regardless if they pass a NICS check. I was a firearms supervisor for 5 years and any retailer will support the decision not to proceed if they suspect anything odd... I've done it several times and my associates have done it. One Example: we had an old lady come in to purchase 5 Mossberg JIC shotguns. If that's not a red flag enough, I subtly questioned her, she told me she wanted 5 of them so she could have one in every room of the house. Another red flag. When I handed her the gun she didn't want to even handle it. Another red flag. I declined the sale and she got super pissed.... She left without a firearm. 3 days later the FBI called wanting to know her information, turns out she was buying them legally then selling them to people who couldn't legally obtain them. Land ownership certainly has an effect on me... I don't own any, I only hunt stateland. I'll kill a 2.5 yr old buck on stateland every year because getting them past that is few and far between especially with a bow. If I had a good chunk of land I'd push my standards to 3.5+. I will not shoot a fawn, as I see no challenge in it, fawns are dumb and careless and I'll go without venison before I kill one, and the only time I'll kill a 1.5yr old buck is if it's at the end of archery season and I'm in need of venison and haven't connected on any does. I do also have more time to hunt than most so I'm much pickier as a result. I have a box full of racks in my garage of 1.5yr old bucks, I'm still proud of them but they aren't in my living room with the others either. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

It's not femoral or aorta (haha) I can promise you that... Sometimes if you tear a big enough hole in the diaphragm the lungs cannot expand due to no pressure. That's my guess, she suffocated, the blood inside is obviously from whatever was damaged (most likely liver) and that aided in a quick death. But mostly I'd say luck helped you out big time! Do You Support Crossbow Full Inclusion into the NY Archery Season?
chrisw replied to tughillmcd's topic in CrossBow Hunting
So are we going to just keep adding implements into bow season until there are less "screwups" as you elequently label being a slob hunter... it's the same as gun laws, you start adding things and then before you know it you don't even recognize what you once had. If you're passionate about something then you make time for it, saying you don't have time to become proficient with a bow is BS. They don't want to put in the work to do it. If you have enough time to hunt then you have free time, just because what time they have is spent doing other things doesn't mean they have none. I work with a few guys at work who dick off all summer not shooting or scouting and then I have to listen to them moan about missing/wounding deer or they should've scouted more. The biggest issue I have with crossbows is that most of these people didn't have a passion to pursue the challenge of bowhunting before now all of a sudden it's a much easier sport and they all want in. And in 5 years it'll be "well the neighbor next door wounded 3 deer again with his crossbow this year, maybe we should give him an airbow so that he's more successful and has a better chance of killing the deer." Where does it end? I'll jump on the crossbow wagon with "you guys" if we take away 2 weeks of gun season. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk -
Do You Support Crossbow Full Inclusion into the NY Archery Season?
chrisw replied to tughillmcd's topic in CrossBow Hunting
The issue in your scenario is the hunter, not the equipment. You don't think this same guy would wound even more deer with his crossbow!? Putting a crossbow in his hands doesn't change who he is. He'll just be shooting more often and further. We can't continue to dumb down every sport so everyone gets more success. You get out what you put in... And the whole "my shoulders are bad and I can't shoot my compound anymore" people suddenly sprouted up pretty quickly once crossbows were put into archery seasons, don't you think? I know a few that shot their compounds without complaining and now that they can use a crossbow suddenly they can't shoot a bow any longer... If your stance is that crossbows are going to result in less wounded deer then why not get rid of archery altogether and we'll all shoot rifles? Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk -
Im working a string of 12hr shifts (6pm-6am) so I didn't plan on hunting but I couldn't take it any longer. Raced out after work this morning and 40 minutes later I had one down. 25yd shot. Chinadermics worked on this girl. Good start to the season. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
