  1. Call me crazy but I'm digging those browtines more than the drop! I run cameras all over the place for the chance I get ONE buck like any of those on public land that I hunt. You're a lucky guy! Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

    Ticks

I'm thinking those are flies... I've got some similar pictures and they are definitely black flies. One does' ear was bleeding around the edges from clusters of black flies. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  4. I'm off November 8-22nd. And off probably 14 other days throughout the season with my normal schedule. I always take the last 7-10 days of archery and first 3 of rifle off. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  5. Whatever you're doing seems to be working for you Larry. I'm only pointing out the proper way to do it. There's no arguing that dropping just your bow arm is incorrect and will lead to shots high (downhill) or shots low (uphill). Try this, draw your bow normally and aquire your sight picture, now drop your bow arm down to account for the angle with out moving the rest of your form... Your peep will now be higher than your sight housing, you just changed your anchor point. My guess is exactly what Moog has said, you're bending at the waist. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  6. It's certainly possible you're doing it and don't even realize it! I'm guessing the guy that misses the whole deer at 10yds has more than just the not bending at the waist issue. It's impossible to know what he was/is doing wrong for sure. A lot of people continuously shoot high on deer at close range, either due to not bending or not holding low at steep angles. A guy I used to know spine shot his first 4-6 deer, he was dropping his bow arm, which changes your anchor point and causes you to shoot high. You're doing something right if you've never had an issue! Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  7. I'll admit, it's like nails on a chalkboard to me when people name a deer. First off, I don't typically have so many good bucks on camera that I can't keep them straight just by saying, "that 8 pt" or if I need to get fancy, "that wide 8pt." Secondly "hit lists" is also annoying to me, foolish terms perpetuated by tv fools that everyone and their brother feels the need to imitate. With that said, I have called deer plenty of names while in the woods, mostly profane in nature when they don't read the script... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  8. If you're not bending at the waist, you're not always hitting where you're aiming. Simple as that. If you don't believe it, go out in a stand and instead of bending at the waist just drop your bow arm to achieve the angle. Just because it's something you've done for a long time doesn't mean it's not flawed... I used to be heavy into competition archery, that's the first thing you learn on angle shots... 9. If you don't mind me asking, what unit is this in? Reason I ask is that deer looks very similar to a great buck I had on camera last year, same frame, even the same split G2 on his left antler... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  10. Last group of the day at 65yds. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  11. Guy I know has an annual archery shoot set up at his house. About 20 targets throughout the woods, some you need to shoot through a pipe between you and the target, he usually always has a pendelum block and he always has a running buck (on a cable running down a hill) you'd be surprised how far you have to lead that damn thing and it's not even close to what a deer trots at. Even if it's not too practical it's still really fun to try. Last year he strung a cable across his pond, you were strapped into a safety harness 20' off the ground and as you zip across the pond you take a shot at a glendel buck 25 yds away. Again, not practical but you get 20 guys together and you can die laughing! Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  12. I've got two sets of 10x42 Nikon Monarchs and a set of 8x30 Leupold Yosemite BX-1. I love the Monarchs but they were a bit bulky to be carrying around bowhunting all of the time, if I were hunting fields or clear-cuts then I'd have them on me but for the typical thick growth I bowhunt I wanted something slightly smaller. I bought the Leupold Yosemite BX-1 last fall in 8x30, they're closer to what I want but quite honestly they are still bulkier than I'd like them to be. But all in all they're both good optics, I don't hunt open places much so I opt for the 8x30's most times. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  13. You shouldn't have put in your choices in that order. 7F is always high first and second and usually leftovers on Nov. 1st. First choice 7M was HIGH, second was MED. You'd have probably gotten both if you reversed the order. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  14. That's a beautiful buck! Love the character on his left side. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  15. They aren't always like that! Some days I'm just feeling it! Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  16. First two shots today at 60yds. I like to start long and work in, just wrapped and fletched up some arrows, trying out new vanes (Vanetec Swift Series 2.88) due to an occasional clearance issue (with my shelf) using blazers. The Swift's are only .4" tall, blazers are like .6". So far so good! Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  17. Growalot, I don't know you and haven't been on this site as long as you have but... It seems like you have stories about being stalked and attacked by a lot of animals in the woods? More than seemingly everyone else combined. I'm not calling you a liar but surely you can see where that comes off as hard to believe? I spend an immense amount of time in the woods (I work shift work so essentially I'm in the woods all day for half the month, more during hunting season) and I've never been threatened by any animal, never bumped into a rabid one (that I know of) etc... That's not to say it can't happen, but the frequency that it happens to you is alarmingly high, don't you think? Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  18. Same old story... Yada, yada, yada, "hide your kids, hide your wives, they're killing everything!" I've found that the people who complain about their numbers most are the ones deathly afraid of them. If coyotes are so overpopulated in these areas then you should consider deer way overpopulated because you'll see 50 deer to every coyote. Everyone is a biologist now it seems. 19. I've got the Longtrac Stalker BAR 30-06 (synthetic) with the same Leupold 2.5-8 optic you are using, that 18" barrel sure looks appealing to me though. The only peeve I have with mine is the trigger feels a bit spongey, granted I'm comparing it to my many bolt guns. I searched for someone to do a trigger job or an aftermarket trigger kit to no avail. I'm assuming with it being an autoloader it's a liability issue. My particular gun is also picky on what ammo it likes, it only seems fond of 180 gr., 165's were just ok, 150's it didn't like. Other than that it's a great, light gun that has flattened deer for me as I'm sure it will you! Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  20. I'd guess 23-24" wide. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  21. I also belonged to a hunting club when I was younger, we leased 800 acres and one year they had a biologist come in and he said it was way over browsed and he gave us 15 nuisance permits, it was not in an agricultural area, no plots, just big woods. A furniture company owned the property. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  22. Looks like a Texas buck! Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  23. I never said the deer should'nt be utilized for human consumption. In fact earlier in this thread I said it should mandate all nuisance shot deer should have to be donated to food pantries. Yes, there aim should improve, but so will the desire to make even more money by killing more and more. And before you know it you're in cahoots with the local poacher running an organized venison meat market that "we" created! There's a reason you can't sell wild game meat, why do you think that is? Because as soon as you put a monetary value on something it gets exploited... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
  24. You sir are correct, that's the first I've ever heard of that and the business I worked at for 8 yrs sold A LOT of licenses, looks like just a few of the areas utilize that system, makes me wonder how that works? In our system it wouldn't even give you an option to use your points toward any choice, it was only the first choice that used the points. Maybe it will prompt if you select one of those areas, I doubt we ever sold tags for those areas anyways, being located north of Syracuse. Interesting. Thanks for pointing that out! 25. Legalizing the sale of "nuisance deer" will only open the door to more poaching, putting a price tag on it will only increase ones desire to obtain it illegal or legal. When they stand to make money from the deer they kill they'll certainly be shooting every deer they can. I don't like that idea, it's the same reason you can't sell walleyes in NY...
