Same here...I have a couple packs and could spare plenty to get you through the season. I got mine at Gander...would think either them or F and S would have it in stock.
-
brassica really starts to become more effective into the later season...have a muzzleloader? That's when I would be perched over the plot in the evening.

I wish this would work with Bing bird's eye view. It is still a heck of a tool however!

I'm not a huge fan of WGI - usually you are going to have to warranty the cam at some point. That said, I've had two cam lines that performed well for me...its hit or miss. One was the W6xac from Amazon several years back for $50 shipped. This year, I bought some of the W3ecan models on a dirt cheap sale ($40) at Dick's. They have them listed for $49.99 right now and with a $10 off $50 coupon found pretty easily, you can pick one up with free shipping, as well. My experience thus far (3-4 mos) is that they have been working pretty well. I haven't had to warranty one yet, the battery life is acceptable, and it fits the bil for me to use in spots where theft is a concern or I'm taking a flyer on picking up some activity. Interestingly, these cams are the same body style and internal camera maker (the cam name can be found in the profile of the pics taken) as the w6xac as a few years ago. WGI sources parts from alot of companies, but this combo worked well for me (I got two years of continuous service out of the w6xac and then sold them). I don't recommend WGI often (hardly at all) but this cam seems like a good option for a kid...easy to use, set-up, and works decently enough. Plus it'll keep his interest most likely. http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=43511896&ab=Banner_Hunting_GameCameras&cp=2460170.12971505.13041235.22731336.29085606

A trail camera...several deals on cams right around the $50 mark. Not the greatest cams, but if he is like any kid today, technology has become instilled in him. A hunting tool that can be used year-round.

Sure sounds like there is more to the story. I suspect there was likely some intel he has been working on to spend time in that area. Being public, I don't think he can reasonably expect that the same guys will always be there and to not check them.

I think Belo was trying to talk the grander scheme that some WMUs you can shoot alot of does and have legal tags. 2 transfers, 2 DMPs, 2 Second chance DMPs, the statewide antlerless, the Reg season tag being either sex in ML/Late Archery (I think that may have changed, haven't checked), and then the WMUs where you can get unlimited tags (IE 8C). Alot of people don't realize people can shoot alot of does given the right geographical location and that leads to assumptions. There are some however who shoot and don't tag.

Try CCI 209M primers and maybe look for a sabot/bullet combo. So many things impact the firing process that you can't be married to one component without the possibility to sacrifice or make changes. For me, it's BH209. If I need to find another primer, or bullet/sabot combo, I will. There's plenty of them that will work well, but powders are limited, and BH209 carries the most benefit for my use. As a result, I'm willing to make changes. I shoot the SSTs, but strongly prefer the Harvester line of bullet/sabot combos. They don't seat as well in my Vortek UL and I would also get the occassional first shot flyer. The SSTs load smoothly, but are a tighter fit for some reason and I don't get that flyer issue. Generally speaking my shots start walking between the 4th and 5th shot, shots 1-3 are generally tight.

I never gave bow hunting the respect it deserves....

Not being elite but I dread gun season coming for the pursuit. I like gun hunting for the sport/camraderie/experience/relaxation. Bowhunting is a challenge but very rewarding. -
You can tell alot from rubs, some of it is subjective and people diasgree, but I think you can get an idea of what made what. I don't see alot of shredding of the fiber, which doesn't always rule out, but shredding often indicates pearling, which is associated with older class bucks. Some bucks just don't get the pearling high up into their racks, so it's not 100%, but when you see shredding of a decent sized tree, generally you can equate that to a 3.5 or older as a baseline. Rubs made on small multiple brush-like vegetation have almost always indicated an older buck. I really am not sure why in all honesty, but you see this often in marsh land or brushlots, or areas with lots of pricker vegetation. Looking for tine marks up high or on limbrs, trees behind the rub itself can give you an idea on rack size. Obviously you can make up some travel indications and when (am/pm) movements at times.

Yep...they need to start slapping the fine system of Ohio and other midwest states. Shoot a really really big buck...you're looking at 30k in fines...

Me and Moog5050 have multiple points for Iowa. After next season, we're probably going to start talking about the Iowa trip for bowhunting. I think there could be a win-win situation with information sharing or networking if you have some interest. We're located in Rochester, about an hour east of Buffalo.

People should report poaching, I agree. The problem is that people infer too much - ever heard of the ladder of inference? While all of this seems plausible, there are assumptions being made here. Maybe time/date stamps are off on the cam and or phone? Maybe the shots you "heard" weren't shot by said person, maybe stories get twisted from person to person. I see alot of trying to connect the dots to make a story that creates a defense for why a mature buck wasn't shot by you legally - see how the ladder of inference works? I apologize if that sounds harsh, but I've been there before, whether in hunting, the workplace, or homelife. Making inferences or telling yourself a story isn't always going to lead to what actually is the reality of the situation.

I can offer some insight. ONce AC took office, he made a policy change that darn near all public/press worthy information had to come from the central office in Albany. Prior to this, regional offices could run their own ship for the most part when it came to press requests. Generally they are routed through the CPS person, and up to the relevant contact in the region. Now, a press request gets you nowhere without an Albany green light. This issue has been so big that member of the state outdoor writers assocations have voiced strong concerns about it a few years back. It isn't changing anytime soon, so now the protocol is to go to Albany to get the permission in, and then wait for the call back from the appropriate contact (which likely isn't the right person you really want to be talking to). A "general" beat reporter not knowing this would get dead ends if he simply tried the regional HQ.

T-day morning hunt is a tradition. Hunt til 10ish and head in for family time.

Typically the hot does do hang with the fat ugly ones, it makes them that much better looking.

Moving it later to Mon or Tues isn't going to help. The temps and rain is going to make that snow go somewhere...that much snow and rain usually means flooding. They're only hinting at it now, which stinks, because I think there's going to be some serious flooding going on.

Just ask the nerd posting above you. I think he does computer stuff for a living. LOL.

I might be able to get you some $$ off of it when you are ready to buy. THe owner will wheel and deal and I am pretty sure I can get some cash off for you with a quick phone call to set up the order (before you buy it).

My wife knows I have alot of stands. If she knew about the other 50% I have, she'd really be mad.
-
You can go from zero to hero fast in hunting. It only takes one encounter. Try moving to the deer. Scouting with a stand on your back or track, or still hunt. Don't just wait for them to come to you in gun season. There are many ways to skin a cat or kill a deer. Relying on cams and standing are only two of them.

Can be noisy against tree and also the feet area is a little tough to learn. You can rotate fine but its hard to trust until you get some time in it. Better suited for bigger platforms on hangons or large ladders. Small ladder platforms are not as nice.

I have an iwom. Let me know if you have any questions. Its nice but takes some getting used to.
