Just saw this story coonhunter. Big kudos to you for helping to create a memorable experience for your friend. I look forward to our messages from time to time and to see how things are going. You reflect the same enjoyment that I get out of hunting and why moog5050 enjoy hunting together. Maybe one of these years we will get together for a hunt.

I heard fewer shots than ever on opening morning. Saw some deer, but nothing I wanted to shoot. I'll be curious to see what the harvest numbers indicate. I actually think the overall population is down in the areas I hunt.

I was weired out when in Vegas my first time and we could have open containers in the taxis and walking down the streets. Sounds like you just had bad luck with a minor discretion lapse.

never ceases to amaze me..................

See bold. Whining about people smelling like bacon is the other end of the spectrum. The other thing is that people tend to tell themselves stories - the ladder of inference. I'm not going to lie, I've sighted in my gun using a pair of truck headlights the night prior because I accidentlaly bumped my scope moving the gun while organizing my gear and lost confidence in it. Maybe this guy had plans or something. Don't know. Assuming and telling stories is not very useful nor does it usually result in good things. He may very well have been a slob hunter, but we do not know that other than assumption based on what one person's limited observation and his interpretation of it. -
Hornady SST slugs

I have had up and down performance on these based on gun used (like any ammo). I've used them in my muzzleloader (SSTs) and they do OK. My Mossberg liked them but my H and R Slug Hunter hates them. Killed a few deer with them, blood trails were mediocre, but often the deer hit the ground pretty quick. -

Outside of the irresponsibility of gun mgmt. or breaking laws, everyone should be super careful about complaining about these "casual" people. These people are the foundation of license sales - the casual hunter, the weekend warrior, or just the opening day/weekend hunter. Who cares if they smell like bacon. Maybe the group puts on drives? Maybe they sit for the first hour or two, head in to get coffee, watch some ball, and then head out again for the last hour. Not a thing wrong with it. Whining about the people who make the up majority of license sales just doesn't make sense. If you're on this forum, chances are you are more dedicated to hunting that 90-95% of hunters in this state. But again, there's nothing wrong with being a casual, recreational hunter who enjoys hunting and what comes along with it for a few hours a year. They buy their license just as you do. -
Saturday opener does that. Would love sz opener to be monday after turkey day.

Lots of fat on that. Backstraps.

They have rubbing issues reported already. Guess they added sleeves to it. A wheel bow in this day and age.

Hope you find him. Ive shot a couple bucks where they made a really distinct sound when dbl lunged. Its like a grunt gurgle. Best way I can describe. They take off like rockets when that hit/sound id made.

Chuck, while a good guy...I dont think his moon and rut forecast is as accurate as he thinks. Too much science and studies disprove it fr being gospel.

Posted a pic on harvest thread not to derail this one.

I just bought the 7mm...no way do I plan to use these in late mz. Their not going to cut it. I am getting cold toes real quick on stand in 30 to 35 degrees. Rather disappointed. Thinking the alpha burly in 800 or 1k better for stand use. Good tread pattern and active boot, very disappointed in their stand hunting use. Im a diehard lacrosse fan too.

Yeah, he was walking in on pines to right and I rattled to get his attention. He came in and approached from behind, which is a first for me. He didnt have a great way to circle arpund or downwind so he came in on the path deke was on. Shot at 22 yds.
