  1. Man, you are off your rocker. Off it completely. The UN has done a great deal for humanity. Is it perfect? No. Is it time for it to be re-designed or closed down for something better? Yeah, I think so. I'll never condone rape, kidnap, torture, etc. in war scenarios. But the cold hard truth is that darn near every government in the world has had a scandal/issue with it. China, Japan, Great Britain, U.S., you name it, it's happened in a war theater. Again, do I condone it? No. But, the fact you bring it up is hypocritical to the Nth degree because you wouldn't be able to name a single country worth living in with any militaristic strength that hasn't had istances of rape and kidnapping in war theaters. Not one.
  2. Who is we? Do you have a lawyer in your pocket or something?
  3. I have a hunting spot just off Keuka south of PY. My buddy's family lives all along a hilly road leading down to the lake. I haven't heard about any issues because they live mid-high on the hill, but the pics look really bad. Not a fun experience.
  4. Turkey have great eyesight and getting close to their roost or pitchdown spot takes time to do.
  5. The UN is barely staying afloat. It hasn't been weaker before publicly and behind the scenes. About the only thing the UN has going for it is the Crimean debacle and the Korean tension. Nigeria is probably another thing they'll try to grasp. Sure, they try to work on human rights, etc. but the value in the UN has always been its strategic use of cooperation in situations of force (military). It has deteriorated over the years with China and Russia being able to stall any measure of action (and vice versa with USA, GB, and then France in the middle). Without activity on that front, the entire organization just grinds to a halt and scrapes by with human rights activities. I have a great admiration for the UN and what they've done, but positionally, they're as low as they've ever been.
  6. Moultrie is having some bad reviews on their 2014 cams. Buyer beware until they fix them. Quite a few people are reporting the cams took a step back from 2013 models. In fact, one guy who runs a growing cam forum actually requested they give him a 2013 when he sent in his 2014 for warranty and they obliged. That says something right there.
  7. My FIL has one and them seem to be tailor made for your typical 60x60 hub blind. It would take some work to rig up a more permanent blind but I agree, probably worth it if the thing is going to be parked there. The cheap corrugated roofing/siding would be lightweight, as long as it could be made rigid enough to handle winds, then that seems like a smart move.
  8. Dean pulled a fast one on the AT people a few years back with another big buck - as a joke, but it got a big amount of attention. He's killed quite a few big bucks, but his stunt left some people ticked at him before he outed OB. Dean also lost his son in a military accident. - his son has just signed up for service.
  9. Out of all the properties I have gained access to in my life, rarely have I seen a property not hunted. The only times would be when the landowner is attached to the land and on it often and makes an attempt at keeping others out. I can't tell you how many times I've been told "You can hunt it all you want. Nobody has permission to hunt the property but you and nobody has been back there in years." I promptly find tree stands on said property.
  10. Look, if you thought he was serious, you would have contacted the authorities because he "threatened" to shoot people. He distinctly said he has no plans to. You didn't. You know he's not being serious. Come off of it.
  11. Dude appeared to have it all - and that's probably most concerning for me. Well educated, well paid, lots of toys, religious, his wife was ridiculously good looking, and so on and so forth. Not really sure what the motivator was in it but it's probably one of those you noted.
  12. Either the 500 or 870 is a smart choice for a beginner. You really can't go wrong with either. 12 and 20 gauge is also a personal choice. If you had to buy one for everything, I'd opt for the 12 simply for bird hunting purposes. A 20 will work well for deer and be manageable for most all game here in NY, but the payload capacity for a 12 over a 20 when talking about birds is better.
  13. Holy crap, the internetz is difficult. I think Larry is pretty clear he won't shoot people, he's just saying you need to take prompt actions to address trespassers and poachers, etc. Make the trouble of doing such more than the deer is worth to those hunters/poachers, etc.
  14. Basically, OB sounds like he was trying to move in on OG, which appears to be a legit wild free ranging buck. Chasin and 195B/C are friends. 195B/C knows OB as an aquaintance. OB insisted he knew of this buck, too. I actually say it is 50-50 he knew of this buck. He told me and others before Chasin posted that he had been glassing a giant buck and described it perfectly as OG is in the trail cam pics. Chasin posted this quite some time later and OB confirmed he saw this buck. If there is an element of truth to this, it might be that OB actually saw this deer on a slightly different core range, because what are the chances that OB and Chasin hunted close-by areas with such a typical beast like that. I think that's where the truths stop. OB was trying to get more info on the buck's locale once it shifted and tried to move in on Chasin's area. 195 confirmed the buck is real and has said he has seen other hunters' trail cam pics of the buck. The area is getting alot of attention locally and most hunters are keeping quiet. Chasin's cousin is the one who screwed up and posted it on FB for the world to see. I think that's the jist of it, the buck is likely real (in my opinion). But, OB has had a few of his kills now show up to be high fence or reproductions that were mounted. Sounds like he was setting up to move in on this buck or kill another one via HF and use the attention/false image of hunting this buck. While money is a motivator, and probably the one reason Marc did what he did with his buck, but OB is in banking and is an executive for a major bank, so I don't think he's super needy with money.
  15. I wouldn't want to leave a pop up blind on that thing all summer in the elements. Wind, rain, etc. Plus, sun will make all bit the most expensive blinds fade like it is going out of style. I have some blinds that are hues or pink and purple from sitting out all summer. That spot will get full sun all day every day. As much as manufacturers say their blinds are UV resistant and fade resistant...they are for a short while. But leaving them out through summer is a recipe for disaster.
  16. One's reptuation. He's been on the cover of NAW, and from our coversations, you can tell his knows his stuff. You can also look at the antlers as an indicator as to high fence. That's about all you can do or take in short of being there. The buck was killed in KY, and not in Ohio where this is playing out. THe entire crux is not #3, nobody here other than you is whining about it. Let's look at this, three people confirmed the deer was real and legit to me those were from two separate parties. Chasin and 195 and then OB. 195 has been on NAW. OB was on Trophy Pursuit and had several other respected hunters I knew who know/met him. All of these hunters have killed B&C (OB not so much now), two are from Ohio and the third from KY. Video was taken of said buck and game cam pics are posted. You can try to hawk me for it, but deer hunting publications actually ran stories on it and vetted it as well. So your agenda against me is just blinding yourself to the situational context.
  17. He's friends with Chasin, so I don't think he knows OB very well. He also doesn't post much. I can say he sent me pics 2-3 years ago of a buck he has been glassing in the summer and shot opening day in KY. He sent me trail cams pics on a farm bean field with the buck in it and a farm in the background, well before opening day. Didn't look high fence to me, but who knows.
  18. 195B&C is another one who has been associated with this, but I don't know to what detail. He lives very close to OB, but from my interactions, he's given me no hint of being involved and I think he's simply been duped. I could be wrong again, but he's killed some big deer, too. The scrutiny in killing big deer is through the roof.
  19. I'm not sure one of these guys is involved (the guy who's been on the cover of NAW). He may have been duped as well. #2 - I highly doubt people in the industry are more likely to do this based on numbers alone. I suspect the most likely in that sense are the ones who never get caught and are average joes. I think everyone knows one or two local town folk who jack, bait or similar stupid things to meet their antler fetish. These two cases are pretty elaborate and mind-boggling. Look, Chad has killed big deer, he was on an online hunting channel, and there was no indication by anyone that he had been doing something like this until these events came to light. Nobody was the wiser. So your #3 is a complete useless statement. Nice try to spin things there, Mr. Deer.
  20. Some of these guys are in deep doo-doo. As for my sources, there's a guy that hasn't been heard from on this topic since the initial sighting, and he's "known" to be on the up-and-up. Heck, he's been on the cover of NAW. I don't know if he is involved in this scheme, but I sure hope not. Chad is the guy most of these people are talking about. I think the thing that is most concerning is that he has killed some free-range bucks that were high scoring, but obviously he's supplemented them with high fence kills passed off as fair chase/no fence. Not really sure why this is the case. Rather religious guy, too. Saddening.
  21. These accusations have been out for quite some time, but just now seem to be gaining steam. It seems like Marc knew he could make money in the industry and found a way to do that, albeit he's probably done. But, I suspect he was one of the few to actually cash in, within the industry.
  22. Both are good options. I am a fan of Vortex glass though. They seem to have low QA issues and whent hey do happen, they are easily warranted.
  23. Wow - that last paragraph....you can tell the DEC wants it all in sooner rather than later. Seems like it is so pervasise, it was brought up when you didn't even ask about it.
  24. To find your suitable distance, use the length from your elbow to the tip of you middle finger. Youll find that to be comfortable and safe.
  25. I think they are one of the "up and coming" companies - people love them or hate them. But, for the most part, the reviews are favorable. I've seen a few and they look like decent equipment.
