  1. First thing is whether they knew you huntes there. Sometimes happenstance takes place. I've unknowingly asked for permission on ground that was hunted by someone I knew. If I had known, I wouldn't have inquired. If they did know, then that is crappy. It does feel like someone is stealing from you....stealing access. Its not a knock on the farmer if he takes it. Its just crappy of those people. Its hard not to share pics, but it has to be done. Only select people you can trust. Even then, you have to be double sure. Never understood friends getting mad over a buck. I'm equally as happy if a friend tags a buck we are chasing if not more sometimes. No reason to be mad.
  2. Lots of big bucks taken there, and the public ground can be very good.
  3. That's about as rural as rural gets in Ohio. Very solid hunting there though...hilly for the most part. Some people report lots of thefts as that county has a known pill popping/meth problem. Usually that's just a problem for out of state leasers there. No reason not to go down there to hunt.
  4. Hopefully those pears hold out until opener!
  5. Use what you have confidence in. I use Grim Reaper Razortips and Slick Trick Standards mostly. Nobody can go wrong with Slick Trick Standards. Nobody.
  6. LOL at 2. This place and people is not a cult or something. Every has their say, even you.
  7. I don't think he's old. I think he's one you make a case for holding off on, if at all possible and it fits in with what you want to harvest. That dude has the makings for a giant in a couple years. Heck I even bet next year he blows up quite a bit.
  8. Don't forget the farm hands. I never caught the people who stole from me, but I and other suspected some farm hands were to blame, based on timing. Not saying farm hands are bad...there's always a bad apple in the bunch. They may have known about those stands way back and got around to getting them with the corn still high.
  9. What do you do before the sun rises? Do you not get to your stand before daybreak? Thermals drag down until the sun crests the horizon. Food for thought.
  10. You might be one of the few people to ever say that. Thermacell has a hugely successful client base.
  11. Sam works in a similar and related field. He knows what he is talking about. Nothing has come up to say this buck had any captive history...usually it comes out pretty quick. Face it, wisconsin has more book bucks historically....its not shocking.
  12. Can't be the first time they were out there if done at night. You don't simply wander into treestands in the dark. They knew those stands were there. Bummer big time. Thats a big financial hit right before season.
  13. Good for you and your hypothetical ("if") ethics. If I make a marginal shot and need to let a deer go overnight because of that, it is what it is. My horse isn't that high that I get nose bleeds. Weighing coyote damage over pushing a deer...6 in one, half dozen in the other. Good for my hypothetical ethics, too, lol.
  14. Ohio is what NY should be. No reason it can't be done other than politics and the historical intolerance of the hunting base.
  15. Someone step up near there please. Time to put money where the mouth is on helping the next generation.
  16. Nothing new, been announced for a while. Seems like a mix of happy hunters and angry ones here. Historically ohio mgmt is solid.
  17. Lost two to yotes. Both cases the hinds were cleaned out on shots left overnight. I will say, if I have yote damage to the deer, I'm not inclined to eat much of it, if any. I don't feel it is sanitary.
  18. Soil fertility and northern latitudes.... Iowa produces more corn than the entire NE U.S. region combined. One state...produces more than the 8 or so NE states combined.
  19. Sure, I'm sure he does at some point. But, you are missing the bigger picture. That buck is on his feet at Noon. Your nearest stand is 200 yards away. That buck is not straying far from the bed he is laying in that day...you can pretty much draw that 100 yard circle and his bed will be in there. That leaves you 100 yards at a minimum out of the game. If that apple tree is 50 yards away, he may likely be checking for fallen apples that fell between sun-up and Noon. Again, he's not going to be walking very far from his bed at Noon.
  20. It's almost Noon...that buck isn't likely bedding within your neighbor's property. He's not far from his bed at all. Probably within a 100 yard circle of that pic is the bed he was leaving or going to.
  21. I'm still pulling my hair out tryign to figure out what I'm willing to burn PTO wise. I have some lee-way which is nice. Defintely taking at least two weeks, maybe not in a row, but definitely two weeks. I always debate on taking any time off for gun season, but probably will this year, a couple days anyway.
  22. That is HORRIBLE night illumination. Horrible. I'd be calling Bushnell for a warranty swap out. That is one of the very few knocks on certain Bushnell models. They otherwise perform solid.
  23. That's a great pic and great time of activity. Do you know why he came out on that side and not by your stand? I'd be more inclined to think I'm watching the game rather than playing in it, if my nearest stand is 200 yards away and I am relying on hope. Is he coming/going to water maybe?
