  1. I have seen Browning trail cams on ebay for $50 bucks. The new models will be coming out soon so they want to unload the older ones. I don't think you can go wrong for the $ with Browning cams. I like the dark OPs as the are less likely to spook game at night.
  2. I did some more post season scouting ( 4th weekend in a row now) and put up a few trail camera's. I also stacked some more firewood on the porch and grilled some Costanza's sausage afterwards. I sat outside and washed them down with a beer. I'll take a spring day this time of year!
  3. I got a fishing vest at the store 50% off. I also placed on online order and it was delivered quickly. I'm glad to have a nice outdoor store close by that I will shop at again. I got a few gift cards for Christmas too.
  4. I use this site to look at topo maps. You have to keep clicking on the area you want to look at to zoom in on it, then select topo from the drop down. It also has the satellite view. https://www.mytopo.com/maps/index.cfm Also, lots of good stuff on youtube on how to read them and find funnels.
  5. I'd want a very wide tree or a lot of background cover if I were to hang a climber. I own one and it's set in a thick Norway spruce tree with lots of thick lower limbs. I have a 17' ladder stand. Once in place, they are fairly safe, but I'd rather be 20-25 ft up in a hang on to avoid detection on the public land I hunt. Picking a tree with multiple limbs and some background cover to break up one's silhouette and allow for drawing or movement to get in place for a shot without being bused is the key, regardless of height.
  6. I've been using this pack for the last 5 years. It's light weight, has enough room for extra cloths and gear for all day hunts. There are two zippered pockets on the inside of the main compartment. Two medium size zippered compartments on the side and two small ones on the waist belt. I use the straps to secure extra cloths to the outside at times too. It's built very well, but the material is a bit noisy and it's not water proof.
  7. I'm already looking forward to next year! I learned a lot this past season on the public land I hunt, am concentrating on smaller areas now. I have some stand moves and adjustments to make for next year to get things dialed in a little better. I will get out in the next few weeks to check cams, and put more cams out to see who survived the season followed by shed hunting and scouting in a few months.
  8. Steady cold rain today. Only two days left this season for me so I'm headed out soon. Deer will be laying low with this rain n low pressure system. Seems like a great day to sneak slowly into the wind, glass ahead.
  9. As best as I can recall, I had 9 hunts where I left the truck well before sunup and came back after dark (all day in the woods). I had 4 hunts where I stayed up in my tree stand dusk till dark without coming down. And I had a bunch of half day hunts too. It's been a great season so far, but I always wish I had more time to be out there.
  10. Saw this on the web and chuckled.
  11. Some beauties still out there! I'm looking forward to checking some cams this weekend to see what deer are still walking around. I think it's good to change it up this time of year. If your not seeing shooters from your stand (s), then think about sneaking into a different area and hiding on the ground. Bedding areas close to food and standing corn for sure.
  12. I would keep it simple and just go after one or the other. Deer season is only open for a few more weeks, so you may want to hunt deer while you still can. Take time to read all the NYS DEC hunting regulations as well. Good luck, be super safe and have a great time.
  13. I didn't see any chasing or hear a grunt. Trail cams showed the usual uptick in daytime movement the first few weeks in November. Hoping to catch some action the next few weekends.
  14. Some great bucks taken yesterday! I heard more shots in the last 2 hours than I did all of opening day. It was a great day to be out, saw some deer and enjoyed the light winds. A camera card check showed a nice 9 still alive and well. Heading out soon.
  15. Way to go on your last day deer in the snow. Looks like you had fun. I did hear a fair amount of shooting over in your area yesterday am.
  16. It was a quiet opener, can't say I heard many shots in the park but hard to tell halfway down the canyon and hats over my ears to stay warm. I saw one small buck and two hunters.
  17. 22 F with light NE winds. Snow on the ground, rut has to be full swing now. Good luck and be safe all.
  18. I have some out year round, but I have 8 out now. It sure is a lot of fun. Switching to Browning's and having them all take 30 second or 1 min video was the best thing I ever did. Pictures are great but watching the video is way up over the top more fun! I connect my pc to the big screen TV and turn up the volume to watch. It's a blast.
  19. Hard to say, but I can't imagine them all fitting in the same den. Great pictures!
  20. 2-3 Canadian's the night before. Dress light for the long walk in, so I don't heat up. Wool socks, Danner boots, Pigmy hand me down.....wool pants (not found in stores), but only a light shirt. Once on stand I put on the layers, warm shirt, neck gaiter, warm hats ( not covering the ears so I can still hear). Heater Body Suit with a few warmers and I'm good for an all day sit. I also find it helpful to bring a thermos with hot water with a little gator aid mixed in. (nothing worse than sitting all day only to find your water bottle is a slushy by 10 am. Been there) I bring some good low odor carbs to snack on during the day too. It's like a picnic for me really. No need to suffer on stand, just prepare a little and it's enjoyable.
  21. Sat all day yesterday and saw one small buck at 4pm. Nothing this am, just moved a stand to a new spot and enjoying the view for a while. I could do without the 10-20 mph winds but that’s what ma nature is dishing out this weekend.
  22. Low 20's, some snow on the ground. Deer should be moving Advantage hunter. Walking in on very crunchy leaves to the stand, calm winds so deer can hear that for a 1/4 mile in all directions: Advantage deer. An hour later when things settle down, can hear the deer a comin'!: Advantage hunter ( I love that sound) Two hours later when said 20 F temps start to chill to the bone if not dressed to the hill: Advantage deer. The rut is on: Advantage hunter. Congrats to all who scored and can sit by the wood fire today and good luck to all heading out there in the deer woods.
  23. Way to get er done Daniel, you make it look easy! Nice deer, congrats! I sat all day on Saturday, had a deer bust me and snort as I was getting into my stand, always a bummer. I had a 4pt come thru at 9am. A doe came through looking nervous at 12:30 pm and a small buck was about a minute behind her sniffing her out like a bird dog. I had a few eagles fly over and beautiful mature one landed in a tree about 80 yards away. Lots of geese and ducks on the river, a great day to spend in the wild but pretty quite. I pulled the trail cam card that had been out, (40 yds from stand) since mid Aug. Some decent bucks in velvet, a big 6 and smaller bucks hard horned.
  24. I didn't hear them, but there sure is a healthy coyote population in the park.
  25. I was thinking about that a lot .............as I was walking out from the bottom this evening.
