  1. You need to enter your zip code on the site for correct times.
  2. Hunt near where the does are hanging out and the best food source. Downwind of known bedding areas is a good bet.
  3. I bet a lot of nice bucks will be taken during this full moon weekend. Today's best times should be 11am till 1pm and Sunday will be an hour later according to the moon times chart: http://www.besttimestohunt.net/default.aspx
  4. I would hunt the closer spot, maybe the pressure died down this week and the deer will be there. And I'd start to look, scout or do some looking at good places to hunt that are closer for next year. I'm sure lucky, I can walk out my backdoor to a stand 100 steps behind my house and have the chance at a mature buck.
  5. It's not much movement to get to your gun or bow. I keep my gun or bow on my lap, the zipper on the hbs comes down easily and ready for the shot in a second.
  6. 3 best days: #1) Spending the day on the river bottom, hearing a pack of coyotes howl before sunrise, the leaves a peak color. Had 3 coyotes pass by my stand at 9am and had a beautiful buck pass by with no shot opportunity. That was just a peaceful awesome hunt where I spent the entire day in the woods. #2) Another all day hunt where I harvested a nice 7 pt with my crossbow at 11:15am. I was 2 miles in so it took some time to get out. Each bite of meat is savored. #3) Another all day hunt where I climbed the tree before sunrise and stayed all day, far off the road. I had a lot of deer pass by but no bucks. We had steady snow all morning and it was a great time to reflect and just enjoy being out there. My worst days are the ones I have to work or have some other commitment and can't hunt.
  7. I try to keep the same routine and head into the woods as scent free as possible, but hunting a week straight the first week of gun I didn't always have the time.
  8. Great job on both! And I like the piece of wood you used for the base. Do you boil and if so, do you add anything to the water or cover the antlers at all during the boil? I ask because my antlers tend to darken a little.
  9. I have Rocky Lynx w 600g and a pair of Danner High Grounds with 1000g of insulation. But.....I use the disposable toe warmers. They work like a charm and keep my feet really warm.
  10. With sun rise being 7:15am it sure seems early to hear a rifle blast at 6:45am. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Day time deer movement seemed way down during bow season as well this year. I can recall years where I'd see mature bucks cruising more and seeing more bucks on the move in general while hunting or driving around. Something seems off. I've done 3 dawn to dusk sits at 3 different locations and have yet to see a horn but I am seeing a fair amount of doe/fawns.
  12. Congrats to all who scored on opening weekend, great to see the smiles and success! 32 F with a west breeze here and I'm headed to a new stand I've never sat in, located 2 miles in.
  13. I did quite a bit of research 2 years ago and ended up with log splitter from Lowes on sale for $1000 and made in the USA. Made by Dirty hand tools. It's done 20 fc two years in a row, really well made.
  14. Listening to the wind howl and gust, thinking about where I can sit on the ground for a few hours, or maybe take a walk.
  15. Been in the tree all day so far and saw one doe. Wind has died down here in 8M and rain coming so it feels deery now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. You too grampy and all. Be safe and good luck!
  17. Yes, turkeys for sure. Looks like they are stretching the wings and getting ready to fly up to roost.
  18. Nice buck! I'm surprised you can see anything through that thick black beard!
  19. That last part made me laugh. I can relate. I like to be settled in the stand about 30 mins before shooting light in most cases. I guess if you were hunting a bedding area, you'd want to be there sooner. Crossing open crop fields in the dark you can pretty much bet on spooking deer on the way in. Taking the most stealthy path to the stand is something to consider, even if it's the long way there.
  20. I hear ya there, but wunderground is one of the few sites that's accurate and it's been right on all fall. The system that is coming is large/widespread and winds will continue into Sunday.
  21. It looks like a great spot over looking the corner of the field with woods behind you. Keep the wind in your face and be still and ready while on stand.
  22. My friend has a couple and they are awesome to sit in on the windy rainy cold days.
  23. wunderground.com weather calls for 20 mph winds and rain on Saturday. That will make things interesting.
