  1. Distress calls maybe 5 minutes. Yote vocals 1 sequence through the sound most of the time, maybe twice.
  2. Nothing dead. Only got 3 sets in and somehow went to bed at 4am...tried across the street from me first. Not a peep. Went over to a friends friends place in akron. Talked awhile then made our way out. Learned theres better ways to approach the fields then the way we took. Plenty of fresh tracks on the way in. Had one howling in the distance but wouldnt commit. Headed in and ended up talking for 40 minutes with the guy. Ill be headed back this week to meet up and hes showing me ALOT more propertys ill be able to hunt. So thats a win. 3rd set out in bennington, buddy running the call, he had one come in but stayed in the hardwoods and was barking at him. He barked back, this went on for awhile. Yote never showed his face. No kills, but gaining more propertys makes it a great night. Congrats to moog on connecting last night!
  3. Lots of varmint hunting to be had. Maybe some squirrels, maybe a rabbit. Lots of yotes hopefully.
  4. I put it on in later October so anticipating snow. Havent hunted during daylight hours so not worried to much about that. The stuff is like ace bandage material, it wont leave a residue.
  5. 3 purposes, 1 its snow camo to break up the large black object, 2 on the stock it adds some needed texture to get better cheek weld. 3...it looks cool to me
  6. Heading out tomorrow with a buddy and a friend of his. Trying some new property in the akron to Pendleton area. Been sick for the last 2 weeks so it will be good to get out again. Hopefully will have pics to post.
  7. Ive hunted with guys that put the call close to cover, whether its a block of woods that backs to a field or a hedgerow. The yotes can literally get within a few yards of the call without exposing themselves, and if they do they are on the call and gone in a second. One time last year hunting with 2 other guys the one guy set the call about 3 yards from a hedgerow separating 2 fields. Had a yote come through the one field undetected and we picked up the eyes just as it got to the hedgerow. Two steps and it actually tore the fabric decoy topper off the call and was gone before anyone could get a shot. I want to make sure my call is far enough off of cover that they have too expose themselves to get to that call long enough for a shot opportunity. They may hang up and watch the field/ call for awhile, but stop calling and let thier curiosity get the best of them.
  8. Please give me specs on your build, the barrel really. Just started looking at the 20practical and like what i see. Will probably what i build for next year because im hopefully getting permission to hunt some good property in erie county.
  9. I usually place the call 60-75 yards out. Maybe a little further if its a deep field. Majority of the time they are going to use cover like a hedgerow to try and skirt around the call to get downwind of it. I try and place it so they have to expose themselves while trying to get downwind of it. My decoy attaches to the call so they are always together.
  10. I run the 403c red light gun and headlamp. I think thats the number atleast. For those that dont like headlamps for turning your head, if you run a hand held scanner you are still moving your head to follow the light. Im going with a sightmark wraith NV next for my gun. And probably a cheap bushnell monocular for scanning. Just upgrade the ir lights on both. Ill have those for next season.
  11. It does look nice but not a fan of the little 17s for yotes. Plus i just want the barrel so i can build it myself.
  12. Im asking for a .204 ruger AR barrel.
  13. Id choose corn or soybeans. Soybeans will be hit in spring, and as soon as they start browning up, which is during bow, the deer stop going to them. But this time of year the deer are in my soybeans alot. Corn would be good throughout bow and gun. Turkeys love the soybeans too, shot my fall bird this year in the beans. Hoping theres enough beans left in the spring to get another.
  14. Just got in from a quick set in my neighbors field...nothin again. Brought my son along too. I just love hunting in the snow, cant resist goin out for an hour. We did see 3 deer. 1 small buck, 2 doe.
  15. Sat the last hr watching over my field with my son. Got back in the house, 10min later...deer in the field.
  16. Too nice of a night to sit on the coach. Took my son across the street to try for some yotes. Nothin...but we saw 12 deer so that was cool.
  17. My son keeps asking if i think we r goin to get a snow storm tonight. Says his Thanksgiving vacation wasnt long enough. They had all week off!
  18. Would LOVE a thermal but definitely not in the cards anytime soon. Crazy kid wanted to go sit in a tree with me this morning. We made it till 930, the rifle had a good layer of ice on it by then, and his toes were frozen. Love every moment we get to spend together hunting.
