  1. I guess you could dig the large node out of the lower portion of the leg. I remove it when I break down the leg into roasts. But when I leave the leg whole, I don't worry about them.
  2. We keep a few smaller hind quarters whole each year for “caveman roasts” https://www.fieldandstream.com/articles/hunting/2010/03/how-cook-leg-venison/
  3. Gun hunting in the rain… 2 things I never do… but I’m trying to get some late minute points for @crappyice
  4. Surf-n-turf… salmon and venison eye of the round. With some @Bionic rub.
  5. Missed him by a few hours! That’s it for bow… at least I know I’ll have a buck tag for the end of Dec.
  6. After a long night of drinking, football and hockey with the neighbors… we decided bow seasons not over and we’re going out in the AM. Perhaps some points for @crappyice??
  7. I threw a pear in my pocket before my hunt the other morning... my cellphone sawed through it on the drive/hike in. I had a nice, wet, peary pocket for the rest of the hunt. Not doing that again.
  8. Sorry buddy that’s a doe from last week. I’m working on your points tho I swear!
  9. Hunting a new spot in the AM and my normal spot PM. New spot is a small clearing on an overgrown hill above some massive crop fields. Hopefully I can get in there while the deer are still in the fields. If not I’ll just hope for some rut movement. Forecast is saying South wind which would be great. Gotta try to get it done for my boy @crappyice
  10. I’ve got a couple fresh hearts I could pickle… I’m following this. @wolc123??
  11. It snowed for a few minutes today… that means it’s venison stew time!
  12. Just for you… I’ll get drunk and watch Bills today instead of hunting. Then next week it’s on.
  13. I’d be happy just to see it. I will put a camera on the next gut pile.
  14. Checked out the most recent gut pile… it was gone, but at least he left a giant pile of crap.
  15. Glad I ignored the forecast… “rain from 5:30-8:30” and I haven’t felt a drop. Overall a slow morning but I did have a decent buck chase a doe through at full speed, grunting the whole time. That’ll wake you up.
  16. Not bad. We chopped everything and ground it together. I know what you mean tho… liver can have some strange textures. Not a pate fan??
  17. https://www.cooks.com/rec/doc/prt/0,1652,152189-247202,00.html We ground up 4 shanks, 2 hearts, 2 livers and some sausage. We didn’t weigh the meat and probably made a wetter mixture than the recipe called for… but it’s not dry at all, and we’ll do it the same next time.
  18. Momma Plav is out to dinner with her friends so me and the kiddos had some fresh venison.
  19. I took today off work for an all day sit, but after a few hours of zero deer I decided to cut up the doe. She had a ton of fat but beautiful meat. I got through everything except the 2 back legs… they’re aging in the deer fridge and I’m back in the stand.
  20. Doesn’t look that good, but tastes great!
