  1. This whole bathroom thing is ridiculous and even democrats know that. It is once again a tiny percentage of people promoting a silly philosophy and then crying a status of victim hood if they don't get their way. Most are too afraid to publicly decry it as the pointless distraction it truly is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Pics? Approximate location? Just asking for others. To me it sounds awesome to be honest, but I don't have the money right now!
  3. Yes, there is a limit, but we aren't there yet. I think we'll see 500 fps within 200 lb compound in the not too distant future. That's going to be mighty tricky for a deer to duck.
  4. If you had used these calculators to begin with you would have realized that modern crossbows smoke modern compounds. That's just the objective truth. They hit harder, they shoot faster (flatter), they are more accurate. I don't have one. I still hope they don't open them up during compound season, but even forgetting their comparative ease of use they are more deadly and the gap will keep increasing.
  5. The problem with something like this is measuring its impact on your hunt is very difficult. And, the science behind it is very dubious, as well in this scenario.
  6. Very few guys are pulling 80 lbs. And still, these are not as powerful as the best crossbows. Another way to put it is a sub $300 crossbow can currently hit harder than the fastest IBO bow on the market. The debate on compounds now is can one ever have an IBO rating of 400? Meanwhile, crossbows have already exceeded that, the next milestone will be a production 500 (I'm sure 450 is around the corner since 440 is already here). As far as I know crossbows are also rated with 400 grain, not the 350 grain of IBO.
  7. I think we are on the precipice, looking down the hill we are probably going to roll down of increasing political correctness and dishonesty in politics and the media. This election is beyond crucial.
  8. That doesn't match up what I've seen. A lot of these are shooting around 400 grain bolts, which is similar to a lot of bows. The best crossbows now are putting a 400 grain bolt out at over 400 fps. That's 150 ft lbs of KE, which no bow can touch. The PSE full throttle compound can do 100, and that's the fastest bow on the market with an IBO of 370, but that is with a light arrow as well, and only if you get the full 30" draw. Virtually nobody has a crossbow at my range, but today at lunch a guy did. He was consistently getting 1" groups at 20 yards with his 3 arrows, which from a compound would be darn impressive group after group (and I know he had not shot this thing very much). But more than that when he hit the bag it sounded like a sledge hammer. Jacked up to 70 my bow could never hit that hard.
  9. Also when you do talk to him it wouldn't hurt to hit record on your smartphone, and yes that's legal in NY.
  10. Everything is relative of course, but the ballistics on some of these crossbows are crazy, and they are very accurate. The amount of drop if you're in the high 300's puts even a fast compound to shame. I can't find any rule of thumb but I'm thinking a good crossbow is close to doubling your range. Of course, it depends how good an archer you are as well; a superb archer may not find their range doubled with a good crossbow; a crappy archer certainly could. Compounds are close to their theoretical limits and crossbows will keep getting faster, we're now over 400 fps. Compared to a bow that flies very flat indeed! BTW I don't own a crossbow. I will probably just have to get one since the cool kids seem to be doing it. Harder to sneak into the house so it may have to wait until next year. I also hope they don't allow it into regular compound. If they do we're going to see tons more people swamping the early season.
  11. I bought cheap stuff from Walmart last year and frankly if this fall is anything like the last I expect it to keep me plenty warm! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. They do. I used them last year. They changed the packaging, but they are at walmart again this year for $13/pack. Last year same price but included field points as well (I doubt anybody needs more field points). I've weighed all the ones I have and the weigh is good and consistent. My avatar is what one of them looks like shot at a tree with a 50 lb bow. You can see it stayed closed until it hit. I'm not convinced there is any reason to pay $10-12 a head, which is why I haven't on a different brand. Unfortunately they don't have practice heads but I made one by wrapping one of them quite tightly with several wraps of dental floss. That was enough to hit a target several times before the dental floss failed, and it let me know that they were hitting where the field points were. Even better would be a few dabs of glue to make one permanently a practice head. I wish there was a way to know for sure the mechanicals wouldn't open in flight. There really isn't a way to test it except just to trust that the o-ring included in the package is sufficient. This goes for any mechanical with rings, though. I'm pretty sure a small fixed will penetrate better than a mechanical if you happen to hit a bone, but I think there are also higher chances of flight issues due to the head contacting the wind. Also, though it's not exactly apples and apples, qdma says recovery rates for mechanical are 91% vs 82% for fixed.
  13. If it's the best part of your new 25 acres, then you need to put your foot down. And it sounds like the only part of his 5 acres that he can hunt on is in fact the very best of your 25, so be polite but firm. He needs to stop.
  14. Interesting because per square foot I'm sure it's cheaper and probably more comfortable to go with a wooden structure, but even a small one could be construed as a livable structure and you can't pretend it's just being stored there.
  15. If a deer takes a dump in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Now we have an answer.
  16. As for an actual answer to your question if you look to the upper parts of the state you'll find huge swathes of public land away from population centers. The more land and the further away, the least pressured it will be.
  17. Core

    Drone

Not that strict really. Register if above .55 lbs and otherwise just don't be stupid about it. You can't use them to "spy" on people anymore than using binoculars to look through a neighbor's window is legal. But, airspace is all public-owned so you can still fly basically wherever you want.
  18. Amazingly great shot. If nothing else I would print this up on a large sheet at Staples, staple it to a poster board on your road/property so that everyone who drives by can see them. And ask people to let you know if they know who did this. Also put a trailcam in front of it because when these guys drive by they will rip the sign down. Oh--Sounds like you already got 'em
  19. I use google maps to make custom maps. I have overlaid a bunch of icons and paths and comments over areas I've hunted. These contains paths, comments on certain sections, even whether I've seen others put deer stands there or not. I can turn my hunting map on or off with a button within google maps. I generally do all the editing on my PC but I can view it on my phone's google maps app.
  20. I have a fairly low opinion of at least half the population. For reasons like this. No empathy, no decency. I understand theft. I actually think vandalism is worse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I also like a back rest. The "comfort" hang on tree stand I tried last year my back was in agony after an hour. The summit climber with a back rest I could hang out in for hours.
  22. Was at work. Remember most of the news websites were crashing hard and couldn't stay up. Everyone at work crowded around a tv in the break room. First plane, seemed like an accident. Second, it obviously wasn't as hard as it was to believe it was happening.
  23. I was at field and stream yesterday, 370 FPS is on their high end, way into the hundreds.
