  1. The "if it saves just one life" is the epitome of the desperate attempt to salvage anything from poor policy. You'll often see politicians use it; "If we can help just one kid", "if we save just one life". Big John had a bit of a melt down on that last post, even going so far as to wondering if I am conducting illegal activity myself that a stop and frisk would find. Hopefully he sticks to his promise to not post in this thread again.
  2. Thank God. You're way out of your depth when it comes to understanding complex matters that involve statistics and I'm glad you've told us you'll stop trying.
  3. I really, really don't like being impolite, but I don't think you're smart enough to realize how wrong you consistently are. I base this on your obvious, fundamental inability to understand what I even wrote (I'm sure most reading could follow it), the fact you have very strong opinions on topics you demonstrate no knowledge of whatsoever (your opinions on crossbows vs vertical screamed this), and the fact that your spelling is utterly atrocious. Like just beyond terrible, but you don't care because you don't know any better. I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt but unfortunately I'm now in the same camp many others already got into insofar as your posts are concerned. Adding you to ignore for my own good, to be honest. I truly don't mean you ill will, but I consider your posts a waste of time and don't want to read them anymore.
  4. Please stay on topic. Lots and lots of words about stop and frisk in this thread. The only numbers given were a completely fictitious claim that it reduced murders in a one year period by 80% and then the numbers I provided that showed it's not the crime-fighting tool some supporters think it is and, most importantly, a few years ago when stop and frisk was massively curtailed, shootings and murders also dropped precipitously. Data, people. Data. Statistics, numbers. If you don't have them, you have nothing.
  5. I can see why so many think you're willfully ignorant. I described the terror watch list. It's a real thing. You say I'm being paranoid but I described something that already exists and the government doesn't dispute it. In fact, they recently debated exactly, precisely what I wrote. http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/20/politics/senate-gun-votes-congress/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorist_Screening_Database You are denying the terror watch list exists?! The government freaking admits it exists! Have you seriously read no news in, oh, the last decade? I can tell you didn't read any news after the Orlando shooting. This very debate was prominently in the news for weeks.
  6. LJC I wasn't sure you saw this response from last, since you described my description of it it as paranoid, but then in fact it is 100% real and exactly as I stated. Just wondering if you had thoughts on that after all.
  7. Okay, you missed what an analogy is, so getting back on topic: I provided data showing that stop and frisk is not that great. Do you have contradicting data? I've provided data showing it as ineffective. Counterpoint?
  8. Penultimate (yes, I did) pack of deer steak from last year is now in the crock pot, so deer stew for dinner.

    DEALLLLLL

Oh man oh man I have seen some walmart pics but those are great. Literally laughing out loud.
  10. I just gave you a better solution. Gun everyone down who's standing on a street corner. The point of my solution was to show that a) Just because I may or may not have a "better" solution doesn't mean the one proposed should be done and b ) if we throw considerations of due process aside we can have a "secure" society. Inconvenient truth is actually that despite "common sense" telling us stop and frisk would be pretty effective, the statistics show it isn't: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2014/08/21/12-years-of-data-from-new-york-city-suggest-stop-and-frisk-wasnt-that-effective/ In fact, the most surprising stat here is that when stop and frisk went way down so too did shootings and murders. I'm surprised, too, but that's what the data says. That's the reality.
  11. Was 41 when I woke up today. FINALLY a break in this ridiculous summer. Weather.com is showing rain all weekend, but this far out I am sure that can change. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I don't think this is a fair defense of any argument. If I proposed that the cops have special units that do nothing but drive by and gun down anybody standing on a corner looking suspicious, gang activity would go down. But, this would be unconstitutional also.
  13. Really? I just described the terror watch list and the debate about selling guns to those on it. And guess what, it's real and millions have no problem supporting exactly what I just described. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Nobody denies that giving away freedom can increase security. In fact, the entire country is an example of that. The majority of people have no problem bowing down to the whims of the government, even if those whims mean nothing. What if I told you the police have a list of people who meet certain criteria and most of these people don't know they are on this list. Some of them figure it out, and getting removed from the list is extremely hard. Now, what if I said a lot of people in government not only endorse the use of this list but want to be able to deny people access to a constitutional right even though those on the list haven't even been charged with a crime, let alone convicted of one?
  15. Look up NY DEC they have a map each year of what they are trying to do with deer population. They are actively trying to lower it in much of NY and you can see the deer harvests per WMU as well. In many parts of NY if you can nab some property near a bunch of farm area you'll have tons of deer going through it. I have to say I know nothing about admirondacks. I've heard it's light compared to other parts of NY, but a lot of people love hunting there. Probably more rewarding than walking into a corn field and picking from 10 different deer. Also huge on bears!
  16. I think absent unlimited funds or separate accounts (we don't do those, for example), it's reasonable to run things by another person and there's no point in running by if you're going to ignore their opinion on it. I seem to admit I've found myself more or less in the situation in which I can get what I want. This week my wife said she trusts if we end up short on money I will stop spending. I won't test that theory by buying a corvette, but I've managed our bills for a couple of decades and never once even made a late payment, so I am doing okay. But she also probably knows I never would in fact by a corvette. But, I admit I spend money on hobbies and she doesn't. I don't know if I'd see it the same way if she was buying tons of clothes all the time. I bet it would bother me, but since I have the hobbies AND I manage expenses it seems not to bug her that much. I am also careful not to hassle over stuff she buys at target or the mall (admittedly not much). The problem is when the person managing expenses is also the person who has no interest in spending money. They start to resent the other one a bit for it. I know a guy like this. He has to basically beg to buy things. Also, congrats OP!
  17. I'm sure cops have from time to time planted evidence during a stop and frisk. Also, example knife laws in NY. Do you know what they are? Me, neither. Nobody does. There is massive discretion among police and prosecutors; the laws are worded and practiced such that a utility knife in my pocket may be a weapon in yours. So, if the cops don't like you, maybe they start playing with that 2.5" knife you have and they figure out a way to whip it open by holding the blade. Uh oh, I hope you have a lawyer. The situation with illegal guns is you can either take them from people or stop their incentive to have them. I don't have any and I bet you don't, either. So what makes us different? What makes the kids in my hood disinterested in carrying a stolen handgun? Normal, decent kids shouldn't want to carry around stolen guns.
  18. There is more than a little irony in your post. e.g. "nothing but repeat over and over"...you keep referring to trump as little hitler here and elsewhere.
  19. That's the youth version of my bow. I dry fired it last year at 49 lbs. No damage at all, thankfully. As for adjusting, your pins look decently centered now, so at this point leave the pins alone and adjust the entire housing. There are two allen bolts. When you loosen one the housing can go vertical, the other is for horizontal. And you are right: if the arrow is hitting above your pin now move the rest up. If it's hitting to the right of the rest, move the rest tot he right. Once you have the arrow hitting exactly where the top pin is (20 yards is standard), then you start shooting with the middle pin at 30 yards and adjust only that middle pin until you're on at 30 yards, then the same for 40 with the pin below that one. The housing won't move since you set it for 20.

  21. As far as calling the hunter a jerk, coming from a guy who looks like the perfect, flawless epitome of a modern day quasi-male, hipster, I think this is the best we're gonna get right now
  22. This is generally true, but not always. It's the exceptions that the 4th amendment was made for; the times when cops are bothering you even though you don't look and act suspicious.
  23. Didn;'t know the name but recognize instantly from pics. Honestly, if I saw him in person I'm not sure I'd make the connection. Get used to seeing people on tv it's almost like they aren't real.
  24. I believe that story because I've seen videos of some blacks saying the same kind of stupid crap whites have said--the kind of whites we now call skin heads. Example there was a BLM protester recently on film saying there were too many whites listening to her talk and that she didn't feel comfortable. Some people call it reverse racism, but it isn't. It is simply racism. We pander to this and placate it as the person just expressing their feelings of hurt and injustice. Except if a white person says this we call it racism, we tighten the screws down on it, and marginalize the person. There is a double standard, so that's why you end up with a black guy shot by a black cop who sees no stupidity in calling "all whites" devils.
