I use the one that came with the summit tree stand. I can't pretend I feel comfortable with the plastic buckles, but I assume they have run them through some testing. I put it on when at home and I for the most part forget it's there, it's really not too bad. I haven't weighed it but it's quite heavy. I see the hunter safety system claims to be only 2.5 lbs. Ideally I'd want a system that lets me rappel down the tree and if I ever get one of the ultra light climbers that doesn't have the wrap-around ring at the top I would definitely get one of those. Otherwise I could see a person slipping the foot rest and hanging there kind of up the creek a little unable to easily rappel down.

I know you got the summit but the muddy looks very similar in dimensions and weight. I got a summit viper sd last year and it is miles more comfortable than a hang on stand without hand rails or a back rest. It weighs 21 lbs or so and there are climbers much lighter, but the summit is exceedingly comfortable and large and feels secure and that counts for a lot. I personally strap my bow to my back pack and rest the backpack in the back of the climber (using just the factory straps which are sufficient) and this way I can carry everything. I once was able to strap the climber to the back of my back pack but it meant the bow had to be in my hand and also it was a big wiggly. Wish it were smaller when carrying but when iti comes a up the tree I am glad it isn't Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yep, I learn most of my new hobbies online but hunting has been a hard one. Unfortunately a website just won't tell you if deer walk by a particular area or not. I suspect to a large extent trying to learn about deer hunting from a thirty min tv show is like learning about women from an adult video; it's not necessarily wrong, but your experience is likely to be rather different than how it plays out on screen. What have you done this year to prepare for the 2016 season?
Core replied to HuntingNY's topic in General Hunting
Just got my license two days back. This will be my second year out. I've practiced a bit in the off-months, but not a ton. I'll be ramping up more now. This time last year I had not even shot a bow, and this is what I did earlier in the week, so I'm well ahead of the game from last year. My plan this year had been to not spend money on much other than arrows but unfortunately I got my eye on a rifle that I spent way too much money on. At least I'm okay for actual hunting gear; tree stand, clothing, range finder, etc. all stuff I bought last year. Will likely still do public land. Last year I found a spot I wanted to use but despite two hearty attempts I couldn't get good, reliable access to it (basically through a hellacious bunch of brush). I went out earlier in the spring to see if I could identify a path through and I did. I'm pretty happy about that as I think it's going to be a really nice bit of public land that most people won't bother getting to because doing the more conventional route is really a long hike up and down hills. I'm not going to obsess as much this year as I did last. I really had something to prove to myself and I have, so I'm hoping I can enjoy it properly and be okay even if I am not successful. -
I can't tell real quick if those links to amazon include referral id or not. It's easy to tell if compared to one that you know does. As for OP I wouldn't get those arrows, those are over $10/piece and if you are a newbie you will lose some (I mean break). Even entry level easton carbon arrows at $30/box of 6 will let you get really solid groups once you get good enough. Save the money until you are better, IMO

No hunting fatalities in 2015 season, DEC announces

So I guess this includes nobody falling from tree stands. It is a great stat. -
They didn't like the consistency and flavor ...

I had it butchered at uncle Charlie. Finally today my meat was ready, got $180 worth of product (!!). That is because the pepperoni stuff is crazy expensive. Anyway, I haven't tried the kielbasa yet but the pepperoni is amazing and the slim sticks are also. Even my kids are honking down on the smoked stuff. Kielbasa are very nicely vacuum packaged. Super happy so far, which I had brought them the rest of my burger.

In addition to shooting a bit now that the weather is better I have most days been doing--on both sides--band pulls in the basement. Stand sideways and pull it like it is a bow. I am really liking it. Last couple of sessions at the range I have not felt my shoulder at all after shooting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Beikirch is selling 10 round boxes for $60 If they sold them in singles I would have bought one just for the heck of it. I also saw a $4k 50 BMG rifle at Gander Mountain a couple of weeks ago. You need some serious hobby budget for that kind of a purchase.

I actually thought about getting a collection of random calibers. You need a 50 BMG up there, but they are $5-6/piece!

Carson to me seems like a good guy but a very bad politician. I actually believe I could beat him in a presidential debate and I'm not trying to brag. I don't even have any debate experience. Trump might go with a ludicrous choice like Palin, but more likely he will go with a "high energy" fighter, and that isn't Carson. Too soft spoken. The republican debate last night was extremely boring and extremely interesting for the same reason. Whatever the GOP Party did prior to the debate, it worked. The guys up there were--dare I say--respectful. And that includes Trump. I found the whole thing hopeful. Each guy up there came across as competent and reasoned. Even their disagreements were generally courteous. The more I see Kasich talk the sadder it is for me. He really comes across as a strong candidate, he consistently says the right things. I believe he would be a strong contender in a general election, but he's just too far behind and has come up too late. I'm not familiar with his governorship but he seems pretty solid. Rubio's anecdote about why he's staying in the race was also strong and didn't seem forced.

Yeah he did smush it into his face pretty well I took a stretchy workout band and looped it around a shelf in the basement like that power pull above.

Same page really. I like a lot of what Trump says and I've wanted for years to lock the border down to illegal immigration. It's insane and neither party takes it seriously. But, geeze, can he lighten up on some of the sillier stuff. The pseudo-heil trump oath thing he did this past weekend, for example, that's embarrassing. I mean, if I'm traveling outside of the US and I tell people I live here I can't have them immediately start laughing at the president right off the bat. And we can't do away with the 1st amendment to allow registration of muslim americans--and I say that despite the fact that the bulk of the world's terrorism is indeed caused by islamists. I know that, very familiar with the stats. But american citizenship has to mean something and so does the constitution. I would love to see Trump take hillary to task in a debate, it would be a real treat for the ages. But seriously, talking about the size of his genitals in a national debate? People's memories may be short. It's possible he's done all this silliness just to win the nomination because it's been a highly entertaining spectacle. I'm hoping if he gets it he can become a legitimate candidate who people can vote for without having to be embarrassed about it. So far he's not that guy. If I put a trump sticker on my car right now most people would just assume I'm joking. And that's a problem trump needs to deal with.

Surprised NY hasn't made speeding a felony yet, but I guess if they did that they wouldn't get all the money they need from revenue.

Europe really is in a mess right now and they are getting worse. Increasingly right-wing parties are gaining power because the left seems unable or unwilling to defend the history/culture of their own nation, IMO. In a few countries the unchecked immigration is a genuine crisis and it is breeding otherwise unthinkable support for nationalist parties. People are lambasted as xenophobic or even racist when they speak out against the huge numbers of migrants, so they stay quiet.

The constitution protects ALL people in the US, not just non-citizens and it must, as you can very well guess if you think through the implications of them not having protections such as freedom of speech or protection from random searches. There are some exceptions, such as the 2nd amendment won't apply to new aliens, but the 2nd doesn't get much respect anyway (and if you don't believe that, go try and buy a pistol without a permit). Legally there is a huge difference between registration of muslim citizens in the US and barring entry into the us to non-citizen muslims. The former is clearly unconstitutional, the second probably is not unconstitutional. Also there is already registration of all immigrants and depending on what country they are from they are put under additional scrutiny. Directly inciting violence is not a 1st amendment protection, regardless of who does it or against who for whatever reason. I've watched with growing dismay what is happening to Europe and I actually believe it is committing cultural suicide right now, but there are ways to deal with it that don't require us to fall into fascism. Illegal immigration needs to be stopped immediately. And it's achievable, but the political will simply does not exist. Neither republicans or democrats have ever taken it seriously, despite the average american wanting it to be more seriously resisted.

Are bird hunters really shooting enough birds that the wear and tear is relevant from lead to steel? These are non-rifled barrels. How many boxes of shells would a person go through in a day hunting? I like the idea of gold. Gives me a business idea. I'll go goose hunting with $1300/shell 1 ounce gold shotgun shells and sell what would be called a "golden goose". Wealthy folk could buy them and serve them up at dinner, with little bits of gold in there for the guests to find.

You could always do gunbroker.com. On any item that has a pressured supply, online is the only way to ensure you don't get raked over the coals by some guy in a store who wants to mark the heck out of it just because.

I agree with this. Polls consistently show a large number of muslims do support this, including substantial numbers even in the west. Progressiveness has taught large swathes of westerners feel guilty when they praise their own culture, and this makes them weak and highly susceptible to negative influences from other cultures. But, one of the things we need to always praise--and much of the world does not have it--is a legal freedom of speech, right of assembly, etc. That's why we cannot accept any compromise on the 1st amendment.
