  1. Hoping to be in the tree around 4, had a nice buck walking around earlier this year in front of this stand hoping I can connect with him at some point or the nice 10 on my parents property.
  2. It's not that bad, I've done it a few times. Better to get it out first and step on it once it's a little separated from the pile.
  3. Don't apologize it wasn't distasteful for the photos were no worse than one would see on the side of the road hit by a car. Actually I would say they were less graphic.
  4. We know that just by all the stuff we have seen with the statues and what not. Pretty sad to be honest.
  5. Only thing that I don't like about them is you aren't getting your meat back you get the weight back but not your deer. That is one of the reasons why I process my own deer.
  6. Good to know, so basically anything used to cause harm would be considered a weapon. Makes sense now and the trespassing thing.
  7. haha that's funny. Honestly what it's going to cost to re barrel you could buy another rifle. I have seen some re chambered guns and that would be one thing but to re barrel you're looking at a good chunk of change. Nothing wrong with Ruger at least it isn't a Savage, I like the Ruger M77's they are nice shooting guns. Personally if the new ruger is a good price I would end up buying that vs re barreling your current gun.
  8. I had a buddy that was bow hunting after his classes in the afternoon (this was when we were in college) and the next morning was running behind. He always took his bow out of his truck the night before because he didn't want somone to break into his truck and steal his gear. Well that night he didn't went to school had it in the back seat uncovered (windows tinted) and the meter maid campus police saw one of fletches and called in the calvary. He came out after class to 7 cop cars state boys and campus police and all of truck doors wide open and all his stuff all over the parking lot. He walked up and asked what was going on what are they doing with his truck, immediately put in cuffs and in the back of the car. They wouldn't talk to him or anything, long story short he got off easy with probation at the college and no charges filed by the college. It could have been very bad for him, the worse was I didn't know the bow wasn't allowed on college campus and had walked with mine right through the main doors in the dorms. I didn't think anything of it, and it could have been very bad.
  9. Most definitely (A) personally there is nothing more rewarding than getting a nice mature deer off your own property. If you hunt state land (I have for many years and never shot a mature deer) getting a mature deer off from there is like a unicorn sighting. I don't think dedicating a lot of stand time has much to do with it but more scouting time. The years I spend more time scouting seem to pay off a lot more than years I don't some of my best scouting has been done on the first weekend in Nov. usually my last day hunting for the weekend and headed home after I will end a little early and walk around a little looking for good deer sign. I have found some awesome areas by accident and killed some nice deer there.
  10. You better take a picture and post I want to see this. You could always run the ratchet strap around the deer and through the door openings. Just make sure you have the doors open when you do or you will be getting in and out Dukes of Hazard style.
  11. I'm glad you mentioned this and I think you would be the one to ask. When trespassing with a weapon (gun, bow, pistol, or crossbow) is it criminal trespassing or not? I have heard contradicting arguments none from an LEO. I would like the record set straight, I thought that it was criminal if the intent was to take or damage personal property otherwise it is not considered criminal trespassing.
  12. That is one thing I can't manage to get right on my own I have tried all sorts of different seasonings and cooking methods I just can't get mine to taste like his. There is farm down here that cuts all their own meat and processes it I think it's called Warners they have the best hotdogs I have ever tasted I mean nothing holds a candle to them. I'll double check the name. Guys that process your own do you use pork or beef fat in your recipes? I use pork butt about 1 to 4 pork to venison. I was thinking beef fat would be better being I like my burgers pink and uncooked pork isn't a good thing
  13. Yes worth it and bring your pocket book he isn't cheap. Slim Jims are second to none along with the hotdogs with or without cheese. If you want to do your own the Iron Skillet seasoning packets are one of the best I have found. For breakfast sausage we use a recipe we found online it is awesome. It has a little rosemary in it and makes all the difference. We have used a lot of the "SausageMaker" seasonings and they are also top notch. Sausagemaker is out of buffalo with great products. We have one down here in Horseheads they sell all sorts of processing stuff. https://www.sausagemaker.com/
  14. I need to mow before all the leaves fall otherwise my little mower is going to struggle.
  15. Looks like the HomeDepot sells it and is in stock at my store. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-NeverWet-11-oz-NeverWet-Outdoor-Fabric-Spray-278146/205160314
  16. I wonder how this stuff will work. http://www.neverwet.com/ Here you go doc. This stuff seems like your best bet I think I might buy some for myself and spray my clothes. I might get the anti icing stuff for my tree stand platforms. http://astore.amazon.com/neve09-20/detail/B00R9EP9C4
  17. The spray works on my boots no problem just takes a little while for the stink to wear off.
  18. So it's a far stretch from 76 literally over twice the distance of your furthest shot.
  19. Like I said tactics, How many guys pass deer with a firearm? I didn't fill my reg season tag because I don't shoot anything that walks we pass on deer that aren't 4.5 years old. So I voluntarily didn't fill my reg season tag. Do you fill your tag every year just to fill it or do you let the small bucks walk and eat the tag? I eat the tag and take a doe for the freezer. Your numbers don't show how many guys don't shoot smaller bucks and eat their tag and I don't expect you or DEC to know those numbers but that is something to think about. How about those people that buy tags or have lifetime licenses that for some reason can't make it out. My father last year had rotator cuff surgery done after he had bought his license couldn't fill his tag because the recoil would have torn his bicep from his rotator cuff. Guess what he was one of those 2/3. There are other circumstances to why people don't fill their tag other than they suck at hunting or too lazy or get deer fever and miss or...well you get the picture. My grandfather has his lifetime license guess what he is 90 years old and doesn't go out anymore. He is part of that 2/3.
  20. None, and you're making my argument valid soooo not sure where you're going with this.
  21. So he hit it through both shoulders and it dropped in it's tracks at 76 yards with a bow not crossbow? And how far were your deer? I'm not buying it was a 76 yard shot and I'm sorry your shots were much lower on the body than that deer you can plainly see the difference and yours were also angled. Trust me I don't need any help identifying vitals or where they are.
  22. You realize that in NYS the assemblymen and the senators are majority Dem? I don't think there are enough on either side that are pro gun or pro upstate to benefit us in upstate.
  23. How much effort does it take to get within 100 yards of a deer lets say 75 yards even? Only deer I have spooked is within 40 yards. If you hunt and haven't shot or shot at deer with a firearm you should take another look at your tactics, I am not saying deer hunting with a firearm is a guarantee and we can all agree it isn't but there is a lot less skill needed to hunt with a firearm or crossbow than a vertical. I don't consider people that are able to use a vertical but choosing a crossbow slobs, I think they are just taking the easy way out when it comes to actually putting in the effort. I don't think those people should be awarded for it. All of those claiming that "it's in the archery shops or sections so it's archery" really? In numerous gun shops and big box stores I have been the xbow was next to the guns or between the guns and bows. Give me a break it's called marketing and they are doing a good job of it. Maybe I'm missing something with that picture but there is no way he recovered that deer hit where it was at 76 yards. At 76 yards the arrow would have travelled darn near straight across the deer. There is no downward angle hitting the vitals I call BS. I shot a deer at 50 yards and the downward angle was almost non-existent. Even if shot the deer going down hill still no vitals that is a backstrap shot all day long.
  24. Yes I have shot several there is really no skill to using one once you zero the scope put the crosshairs on the object with the correct yardage and pull the trigger. Can you honestly say shooting it or loading it is any different than a rifle?
