  1. Never got one myself that big but dragged a couple out that were 197 and 201 dressed. These were shot in Farmington, good old farm land deer the amount of fat on those deer was nuts.
  2. Most AWD will, my father in laws yukon XL has AWD with the stabilitrack and is a total tank in snow. Our little pontiac vibe and Traverse are AWD and same deal. My truck doesn't have Limited slip but in slippery situations and 4WD in there isn't much she can't handle. Best thing someone can get for their truck is limited slip, granted it takes a little finesse to drive when it's slick and 4wd isn't in but definitely worth the investment.
  3. That and wears Birkenstock sandals.
  4. I used to think this same thing but I have passed on deer that were 3.5 years old to see them the next year and even the year after that with some neighbors that hunt brown it's down. No knocking you a buck of a lifetime is different for everyone just like the saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". The one below I saw for 2 years straight before I decided to "try" and shoot him. Well it didn't work out and managed to trim a small limb out of my shooting lane with my bow. Still haunts me knowing the guy down the street now has him on his wall. On a side note our property has never had more than a 10 point. I really want to break into something bigger but for some reason once they hit 10 they just keep getting bigger instead of growing more points. Hope this works better. Photobucket is no longer doing free image hosting.
  5. Yup I am thinking he is a studly 2.5 year old. I wouldn't say 3.5 year old. It really depends on the area and quality of deer taken in previous years that you can compare him to. I know many say you can't age by the rack but it can give you an idea. I will say he isn't any 4.5 or 1.5 year old.
  6. Yeah no doubt it had issues right away. I'm not knocking them just pointing out they have no less issues than other manufacturers, they used to be the forefront in reliability but manufacturing has come so far it is tough to find a car that won't last 200k with proper maintenance. Fuel mileage wise my father in law had a cobalt that would regularly on the open rd. get 40 mpg sold it with 75k on it to buy a 5 speed 2wd silverado that managed 27mpg on the open rd. sold that bought a Yukon Denali that gets 14 mpg on a good day but that is his commuting car to and from florida where he tows his bass boat everyday for 5 months then back up here to NY. The 2004 denali has 140k no issues. No doubt those hondas last but so does any well maintained vehicle (excluding trucks because if you use a truck for a truck it's going to break or wear out quickly).
  7. After 100k miles you can just change the filter and top off the oil back up to full, no need to drain it when it burns it all out. Guy I work with bought a brand new Odyssey ($38k) 12 miles in engine had a rod knock he had me come listen it sounded horrible. I told him not to drive it get it towed back to the dealer, he called the dealer had them listen over the phone. They said it was fine just does it when it's cold even though he said it was doing it all the time, 30 more miles the tow truck driver was picking up what was left of the oil pan and pieces of aluminum block off the black top.
  8. A lot of this is because the motor was designed for a rear engine car and then they try to stuff it into the front of a car and its all backwards with things in the way. they basically have to design the engine twice.
  9. Thought they only came in silver. With all the new gadgets on the new cars like launch control and such you just pop the clutch and the car does the rest. Kind of sad you don't need to actually know how to drive a car anymore it is all done for you.
  10. 224,000 on our 2004 pontiac vibe AWD. The thing will rust out or will be my 2 year olds first car. Lots of quality AWD cars out there just need to do your homework.
  11. If you spooked them 3 times already and they keep coming back I wouldn't worry about it or move the camera. Only other thing you could do is make more noise or move the camera. Being that they stay there until they see you I wouldn't be too concerned. Now if it were a mature buck and you jumped him once I would be pulling the camera and try to catch them moving to the bedding area vs setting up in the bedding area. On my parents property we jump deer no matter where you go into the woods. They come back eventually or move off into another direction and watch us until we leave.
  12. Wear them as much as possible outside around the house doing chores. You can wash with water and baking soda (make it into a paste), cover in mud, leave outside but upside down. My boots smelled horrible when i first bought them but still wore them in the woods with no issues with deer. Unless you are in a bubble or plastic bag the deer will smell you so it won't make too much of a difference.
  13. My trail cams have been loaded at night once it dips below 70. Up until then I get notta.
  14. I just stumbled across a section on the DEC website about buck hunting where they had a paragraph on aging deer. It was pretty informative except the part that states people have to be realistic about the deer in NY. I'm sorry but the deer in NY are just like deer in the the big buck states. All the big buck states have scrub bucks no different than NY it's all about how it's managed I feel like this is a big cop out. The big buck states didn't just happen overnight, they needed to be managed properly and for the hunter not other interest groups. I guess they are in the "Damned if you do Damned if you don't" boat. 16. Might be those empty corn bags stuffed under the seat!! haha just kidding guys, but I do remember someone posting a picture of his truck filled with corn and deer were all around it right in his driveway.
  17. That one grizz on the left looks like a nice one.
  18. 2 stands as of right now on 40 acres but will have more when I see where the deer are traveling, 11 stands on 220 acres 1 that is permanent.
  19. The tag that is an anterless tag allows you to take an anterless deer during Bow or Muzzleloader. The either sex tag can be used in Bow or Muzzleloader season to take either sex of deer.
  20. Fried puffball is my favorites from my childhood days. We sliced about 1/2" dipped in egg then breadcrumbs fried in butter until soft. They have a great sweet flavor, it's making my mouth water just thinking about them. I usually let them dry out them squish the the puff to spread spores around a little. We used to have tons on the farm we would find them about the size of a basketball. Very good eating.
  21. OOOoooooo this would be perfect for those that put stands on borders and trespassers! hahaha I wonder how many would freak out and leave?
  22. Read somewhere it has to do with temps, If you are still staying warm at night they might keep them longer. I know my father in law up at the lake hasn't had a night below 60 so if that is true those bucks near the lake might get a little longer to grow.
