An FYI Adirondacks are not a national park. It is a New York State forest preserve and is managed by the Adirondack Park Agency a state entity. The Adirondack Park Agency was set up by then Governor Nelson Rockefeller. Regardless the preserve is protected by New York State laws keeping it "forever wild" making it very difficult for forest management. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Have one that was given to me. They are nice machines for what they are. Just keep in mind that you should be mechanically inclined as there is very little dealer support for them. Only thing I had to do was change oil and clean/tune carb runs like a top and the kids really enjoy it. As far as a governor most that I have seen only have a throttle stop. Being cvt transmissions it dose not limit top speed only how long it takes them to get there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

hunting with iron sights had been the norm for a very long time. As with anything else if you practice it will be fine. as a kid there wasn't a gun in deer camp with a scope on it other than one sporterized mauser. now every gun in camp has one other than when i take out my 16ga. changing times i guess.

if you are looking to hunt them do your research there are areas up there with nice populations. not sure of old forge area but i know others up there that are productive.

i think most would be surprised at a child's reaction to deer being taken i experienced it first hand at about 6.granted it was a rifle shot but i was involved in the tracking and found the whole experience exciting.the dying animal did not seem the center of attention.but more why we shoot them and how to clean them take care of the meat ect. i believe some are so far out of touch with where food comes from its not funny.some seem to forget that when you buy meat in a store that some where some how that animal had to die.the next deer my father shot was spine hit that same season he just explained how its our responsibility to dispatch the animal as quickly as we could and promptly finished the deer and reinforced the importance of taking a good shot.did not turn me off to hunting at all i was most happy to be spending time with him and learning the woods.

people get me sometimes i don't get it when told there is no where to hunt in nys. must be some don't understand maps, our state has vast a amount of lands that we can hunt and recreate on free of charge all year long with minimal restrictions. i have hunted state forests my entire hunting career granted there are lands i do not have permission to hunt along the way but to say there is no where to hunt is asinine.

i think the age is fine where it is. i find problem with people not involving kids in hunting before the age they can actually kill.i was in the woods hunting with my father at age 4. he was not a selfish man and made time/special hunts so i could tag along. why? because he felt as his father did before him that it would help to make me a sportsman.most everyone i hear crying for a lower age don't take their kids out solely because they can't "hunt". hunting is more than just killing an animal.Next is well they can't stay out all day.....yeah no crap be a parent and sacrifice so your child can learn to enjoy the outdoors. who cares if you miss a chance at that monster buck cause junior got cold the time spent with them should be enough for that hunt.teach them how to track identify animal prints of all kinds bird feathers what good habitat looks like bedding areas food sources how to read a topo map and compass.... all so when they can hunt they will be prepared in the woods and not just thrown in.

sounds good skeron we are doing well so far this year trip to adks was successful flushing 25 birds in 2 days taking 4. no woodcock were flushed there this year but thats ok by me seemed dryer than years past. Had the dog out sunday afternoon on pheasants and flushed 3 missed one and no shots presented on the following 2 one on the far side of a hedgerow and the other directly into the swamps. My cocker also ran 2 rabbits one of which we took.with a beautiful retrieve to hand. -
It is too bad we do not have a wanton waste law in my opinion. That is the only thing i see issue with was disgusting seeing strapped out deer next to the road during last deer season. that and the dishonesty i see amongst "hunters" in general these days people telling me they will fill their son or wifes buck tag cause no one will know etc.If people would just follow the rules and hunt ethically i think we would all be better off. Instead of worrying what the next guy is doing just hunt for yourself or your group and be happy with that.

the coffee won't make a difference in my opinion but this is coming from a smoker who has had deer walk right to him burning a cig...... i think scent control is more "important" these days because people buy into. i believe hunting the wind can do far more than any product you can buy.

in my opinion they are the king of game birds of all game i hunt the grouse gives me the biggest rush. nothing compares to the thunderous flush of a grouse going up in the fall woods, puts my heart in my throat almost every time. and their quickness and ability to put themselves between you and cover/trees in a hurry is like no other. -

i suspect the wc flushed sunday were resident as we have been seeing them all summer but a fellow ny hunter on the 16ga society had put up more than 15 last tuesday so flights may be present also. -

out after the king this weekend
16. ga hunter replied to 16. ga hunter's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
went out yesterday afternoon started out slow on the grouse but she put up 5 grouse unfortunately i had not registered for hip so let them fly. the woods dried up as the day got longer and managed to flush 3 birds for a total of 6 flushes with 2 shot opportunities. did not connect. i think within the next few weeks the leaves should be fully down allowing more shots. in all it was a great day my cocker is really on this year and paying no attention at all to deer a big plus in my book. wish all a good season. -
welcome navy here also hope you find a good group to hunt with.

yes its a lil on the warm side but after hunting bobwhites in south carolina in 2003/04 it's not so bad. i hunt till close also unless the snow just becomes too deep for my cocker but really enjoy the autumn hunts till deer opens. hoping the leaves will drop in a timely manner. heading to adirondacks next weekend for a long weekend hunt should be a enjoyable time. -
training has gone well this year, guns oiled and dog trimmed heading to the souther tier after some grouse this weekend anyone else heading out for the drummer of the woods?
